New user
Hi all! I just started using cups and I thought I'd share my experience here. ^^

Cut because I'm prone to rambling )

And to close... I have 2 15% off coupons for LadyCup's website from when I ordered off their eBay. I don't intend to order anything from their site, so if anyone wants them, they're yours. Just ask in a comment here (so others know they're claimed ^^) and I can send you the code however you'd like me to, first come, first serve. To be fair, one per person, unless there's only one person that cares, heh. I'd rather give them away than have them go to waste.

Thanks so much! Reading other people's experience through this community helped me a lot with learning how to use cups and in choosing one, and I hope to continue learning more. ^^

I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT.
OH MY GOD.

First time poster, first time user... enlightenment and all.

A little while ago I was referred here by a member (hiiiiii). I'd vaguely heard of cups before, but never really considered using them. Well, I did some research and ordered a small Ladycup "Lotos" - the first couple of dry runs were painful and disappointing (despite using lube), so I decided to put it away for a while. I think I'd been rushing it... definitely needed practice. Aunt Flo finally showed up this week, and I figured out the triangle fold works perfectly. Yay for periods being significantly less gross with no risk of TSS! I can't feel a thing, but the real test was using it during training today. I'm a weightlifter/strength athlete and I take my training seriously. Absolutely ZERO leakage or pain, and I could front squat like the hardcore meathead I am.

Pictures of the Ladycup Lotos! ...and the hilarious sticker that comes along with it. )

In conclusion, this community is extremely kickass, and menstrual cups have officially opened my eyes. THANK YOU. <3

LadyCup super suction fixed...
I experience extreme amounts of suction with the large LadyCup on multiple trials. The suction was way too good, so I turned the cup inside out an now it is much better. I like the size of the holes however the angle when right side out , because of how my cervix sits in the cup, causes the holes to be blocked from the inside creating massive suction. I still prefer the stiffer, larger capacity DivaCup but turned inside I can use the LadyCup at the end of my period.

Large Fleurcup width/holes affecting suction, length affecting comfort/fit - any input appreciated!

Pain & Bicycles
Hi guys,

I just wanted to share a sad story with you, so I could have support and love, and maybe feedback.

So, I've been using my LadyCup for around a year and a half now (yay! love it!!! + always trying to nicely convert people), and I've been living in Amsterdam for the past several months, and obviously biking around everywhere. This has never really been a problem up until now. Today, I got home, and when I went to go to the bathroom and peed, I had a horrid burning / stinging-in-the-wound sensation like something was wrong. I poked around with a water-wet tissue and sure enough, one of my lips was swollen and in pain and maybe abraded? I really don't know. I had to change my cup, which worried me because I didn't want to upset such a sensitive area (I mean, generally obviously sensitive, but right now especially so, with the pain), but I gingerly did so and tried not to offend or bother my sore lip too much.

I wonder, though, if it's because of the combination of "cupping" and biking? It was always fine before, but I wonder it today, when riding around, I was grinding the leftover stub of my cup stem into my vulva lip flesh--especially every time I bounced and bobbed up and down over all the bumpy bricked streets here. I'm sure if the cup was riding too low, the edges / bottom of the stem could easily bear into my lip flesh.

Do you think I've actually hurt or injured myself? My hope is that this will just go away and heal itself, and that I couldn't actually have done much damage with just some silicon and a bicycle seat. What do you think?

Also--please send love and hugs! I was very sad when I first came out of the bathroom (obviously), and my first thought was to fly online and solicit support from you all.

xoxo

Lady cup removal
Hello from Russia, again :)
I've been using my Mooncup UK size B for several months, but it leaked, so I decided to try a Lady Cup.
Now I'm on my first cycle with Blue Cup (large), and I'm happy everything about it except removing...
With Mooncup UK I could squeeze the baze to release the seal and then rock it from side to side - and here it is. But with the Blue Cup it doesn't work - squeezing the baze doesn't release the seal and it's too slippery to rock it. The only way I found is to insert my finger and fold the cup a little like C-fold. Works, but most of the blood is spilled! Not great as I'm removing it squatting and the blood spills on the floor.
So, Lady Cup users, how do you remove it without spillig? Is it possible? :)
18 October 2009 @ 05:08 pm
I don't know if this is supposed to happen...
I bought my first cup, a small LadyCup, last month, and this will be my first period with it.  I did a few dry runs, to try to get the hang of inserting it, and everything went great.  I have a finicky period, and spot a lot before it starts, so I've had my cup in occasionally for the last couple of days.  I haven't had any trouble inserting it or feeling it or getting it out, until today.  Normally, I could just bear down until I could reach the top of the cup and pinch it lightly to break the suction before pulling it out.  But today, I went to pinch, and I think my whole freaking cervix was inside the cup.  I've felt the bottom of my cervix resting on the cup  before when I've pulled it out, but this time, I mean the whole cup was literally just full of cervix.  I had to loop my finger around the rim to break the suction off.  I don't know if this is normal, since I've never used a cup before.  So is this normal, or is the cup suctioning my cervix down inside it, or do I just have a super fat cervix, or what?  I'm also concerned because I have an IUD, and if it's sucking my whole cervix inside, I don't want it to dislodge my IUD.

I am buying one for my sister and she is 29 , but does not have any children. Would you go for a small or large

Holy suction!?
I have used a DivaCup Large for about a year with success however after getting my IUD removed I started having heavier periods and the DivaCup wasn't working for me. I tried all the tricks for a better fit without much success so I decided to try another cup. I ordered a large LadyCup and what a difference. The LadyCup is much softer, popped open easier however cups tend to migrate up and back for me even when I start placing them very low behind my public bone. The LadyCup literally latched on to my cervix and wouldn't let go. I am quite comfortable with my body but it was difficult to remove it. The holes that prevent 100% suction where actually blocked because of how the cup was sitting on my cervix. I had no leaking but it was extremely difficult to break suction and remove. I think if there were more holes lower down on the cup this would be perfect for me. I tried it a second time (why?) and the same problem with fit, it completely latched on and I had to reach to the very far edge of my cervix to remove the cup. The softer LadyCup is also more difficult to manipulate. Any ideas on a different cup or possible solutions to this problem? Has anyone had this happen?

large meluna vs large ladycup?
hey ladies!

I started with a small diva and I could never get it to open right, so it leaked constantly, but then I grabbed a large ladycup off ebay and I LOVE it.  it's one of my "desert island" possessions and I totally tend to forget that I'm gushing like a grievous injury in a B movie when I use it.  but for a couple days, my flow is just TOO heavy and I still end up having to empty it every couple of hours.

the cup (ladycup) never fills the whole way, maybe more like 3/4ths before it leaks, and I always figured it was my cervix taking up space in it.  but as I was looking over the size comparison chart and pictures of the large meluna and then my large ladycup, I started to think maybe it leaks at that point because the holes are so low.  the large meluna looks a little alarmingly long, but it looks like the holes are up close to the rim and maybe I'd have better luck with it on my heaviest days?  does anyone have an approximate realistic capacity for it yet?  I couldn't find that information anywhere.  I also read it was a little stiffer, which is sort of setting off alarm bells in my head - stiffer + longer = diva and the diva did NOT work for me.  hmh.  what do you girls think?

if I go for it, I'm totally waiting till november so I can get the bright green.  something about a menstrual product in my favorite obnoxious color kind of makes the cramping and headaches and targetless rage worth it.  well maybe not really, but I think knowing that my favorite color is indirectly saving my pants from a tsunami will still satisfy me in some strange way.

thanks in advance!  you peeps are wonderful :)

Meluna questions on removal and comparison to Lady Cup
I own a small Ladycup which I love. It's leaked once or twice in the year and then only due to user error. It is a little tricky to remove sometimes, not prohibitively. But I do wear my cup all the time, not just when I'm on my period. Meluna caught my eye because it has cups with a ring or a ball at the end. I thought maybe this other cup would allow me to be more spontaneous with removal. It looks like from this photo that the small Meluna is about the same size as the cup I have. So, ladies, have any of you used both, are they as similar as they look? And, how much more effective are the balls and rings at the end for removal, particularly compared to Ladycup? Would anyone recommend the ball or ring over the other?

@&%$^%*@ LadyCup!
Why must the LadyCup be so hard to remove?  In general I use a small Lunette, though it's capacity is a bit low for my heavy days and it's a bit rough for my light days.  I also have a small LadyCup, so once in a while I try to use it on a light day.  It goes in so smoothly and easily...  And then I can't get it out!  I got it out without too much trouble yesterday, so I thought I'd be fine and put it back in.  Then, of course, this morning it was stuck!  I've tried the rocking back and forth, and I've tried drying my fingers off, but as soon as I try again they are too wet again!  I've tried the giving up and coming back to it, but I'm still frustrated and sore, and now it's been in there 14 hours.

I know a lot of people use the LadyCup and love it...so how do you get it out?

I wish there was a cup out there that was really smooth like the LadyCup but had a good, solid base that I could get a good grip on.  I don't think it would even really need grip lines as long as the base wasn't so squishy!  My other problem with the LadyCup is that the rim and top part is so stiff that I can't try to refold it while it's inside of me, because it won't squish in.

Is there a cup out there that's smooth but easy to remove?

Edit:  I got it out!  Thanks for all the advice.  I'm still open to smooth cup recommendations, though.

Cheer and a cup?
Hey :D
I have a Green LadyCup and I love it!
One thing I'm worried about is not being able to do everything I normally do though.
I looked through most of the sports tag but that was a lot about swimming.. so if it's been asked sorry!
I'm a cheerleader and its a whole lot of movements, so will this effect the cup at all? I really don't want to wear a tampon for practice, but should I anyway? splits in the air and such worry me, ya know :P

Thanks everyone!!

Help Please
I have gotten to step 5 YEY.  http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1243131.html
So anyway here goes the next dilemma, I have no idea how to order online. I have done it before but that is when my parents had a paypal and a credit card. But now i have no way. I decided to get a prepaid credit card like whatever you put on it u get to spend i remember when I was in elementary school and all my friends got credit cards for their birthdays.  So yesterday I went hunting on google, here is what i found-
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070806163129AA3ooMe
So then i went to Acme and they knew what I was talking about and said that they didn't carry them and to go to the bank. So I did that.  I asked the teller how to get one, well my dad did, then she was like what? So i said a PREPAID CREDIT CARD, and she said that they only had gift cards for the bank. I thought that was the same thing, and she asked my dad if he had a bank account and he doesn't anymore.  Anyway i thought you didn't need a bank account.
I was trying not to make this thing a big deal bc i don't think it will work the first time.  Too late.

So please can anyone tell me how else to order a ladycup online. I already found Ladycup's ebay store.  I really want one now that I have gotten this far.

EDIT**
Thank you everyone, my dad called walmart today, they said that its 3 bucks to activate, and 3 bucks monthly.  Great deal if you ask me, and then they send me a new one in the mail that you can charge up with more money anytime you want.

And i still haven't decided what color I want. lol So what color is prettiest in your opinion? I seen the new Lotos color, it's pretty! i gues it is just a dark peach color.

what do i do about these problems?
I have the Ladycup (small)- the first time i tried to use it i got it in but it hurt a lot. I think that was because of the stem being irritating and just my body getting used to the cup. I left it in for maybe 20 minute but it was just too annoying/painful and decided to wait until my next period to try again.

So two hours ago I got my period and I'm having some issues:

1) The cup sits very low in my vagina, with the stem partially sticking out, and the stem is poking into me, but I don't know if I should trim it because I don't know if I'll regret it later on. I am ok with it not being completely inside, i just wish it wouldn't poke me. :C

2) If i relax completely, it feels like the cup slides down a bit, like it's about to be pushed out of my vagina and it HURTS, but if I keep 'flexed' it keeps cup from moving and i can only feel the stem poking. This is making me believe i should have the cup higher up, but..

3) ..I can't seem to get it any higher. I read that when you push it past the pelvic bone and let it open it should slide up on it's own, but when i try this it slides down instead of up. Why would it be doing this? I have also tried to push the cup higher manually but I found that my fingers are too short to get it any higher than the pelvic bone anyways. I've also tried to push it up by the stem but it just squishes into the cup.

So far I have not had any problems with leaks C: though it's only been 3 hours and I haven't been moving around much.

Also, what does the 'teething' tag mean?

DivaCup #2
I have had my DivaCup for a couple years now and have used it with success however I had an IUD and very light periods. Now that my IUD is gone I'm back to regular, heavy periods for me. I was on the pill for years before. I leaked multiple times this last period and Have read the board looking for ideas. I am long and believe a larger size cup is better for me no pregnancy or childbirth but over 30. The cup wasn't full when it leaked and I think I get a good seal using the C fold but when I run my finger over the divaCup when I feel that I have a good fit I feel an indentation, not completely round or smooth making me think it hasn't opened all the way. I ordered a LadyCup in large to see if this is a better fit. Any other ideas on fit would be appreciated. The cup tends to ride higher over time, I womder if a smaller cup would be better?

MeLuna and Ladycup
Hello ladies!
I just wanted to introduce myself real quickly, and ask if you guys maybe had some tips for me. I'm almost 20, and (maybe obviously) have never given birth. I have been having sex for a couple of years, and have been on birth control from when I was about 15 'till I was 18, when I switched to the NuvaRing. I've been wanting to order a cup for a while but kept postponing it. Last week I ordered a meluna in S (with a ring instead of a stem), and a ladycup in the smaller size. I have since tried both (I'm still having my period), and both are not really perfect for me.
The MeLuna seems too small, in both width and capacity. It hasn't moved while inserted, as far as I could tell, which is a pro. But I can't wear it during the night because it leaks, simply because it's too small to last the +/- 9 hours I sleep. It's pretty easy to insert and remove, even though it sits very low. Though I think that's got nothing to do with the cup, my cervix sits very very low during my period too.
The LadyCup I just received today, so I haven't slept with it in yet. I chopped off the whole stem, because, sitting so low, it kept poking me constantly. Even now the stub pokes me a little sometimes, any way to get it a little softer? It's a lot easier to fold than the MeLuna, but also seems to shift more while inserted, it tilts a little. I'm not sure if I should be bothered by this, I'll keep wearing it until tomorrow and we'll see what happens, haha. I'm not sure if this will hold more blood during the night, since it is 5mm longer than the MeLuna but the airholes also sit a lot lower.

Anyhow, using a cup has not yet been a perfect experience for me, but also not much worse than using a tampon. I haven't had any leaks apart from the aforementioned leaking during the night. I did however have extreme cramps yesterday, the first night and day I used the MeLuna; though I don't think it has much to do with suction, since it seems to have quite little being so small. It could just be a random horrible period, haha. It's been better today, even though I also wore the MeLuna for the night and until about 3pm.
I'm thinking about ordering a MeLuna in M, for the mere €12 it's not that much of a loss if it turns out to be too big.

/blabla long story! Any things I can try to make it more comfortable / make the cup sit a little higher? I use the origami fold, the others (C and punch down) didn't seem to open that easily and this was nice and compact to insert.

Fleurcup VS MoonCup UK (and diva and ladycup)
I recently ordered a fleurcup. dont get me wrong, i LOVE my MCUK and would recommend it to anyone. However, recently i have been plagued with heavy periods and needed something that could keep up. I decided on the Fleurcup because of its stiffness (i tried the lady cup and HATED it), it's capacity (large fleurcup is among the biggest capacity-wise), and the fact it comes in black and won't look all stained (even though i do "whiten" my cups with hydrogen peroxide at the end of my period). ANYWHO... onto the comparisons!

comparisons AND pictures! )

what am i missing?
i had posted last week that i wanted to buy a ladycup & very quickly i was pointed in the direction of ebay.  which in theory is GREAT...thanks everyone!!! my only problem is I CAN'T FIND WHAT I WANT...lol.  i don't want to spend more than $25 on a cup & i found one auction the other day which i lost :( but hey that's life right?  i thought o.k. i'll just try another auction well since yesterday all i can find are the 'buy it now' stores that are charging $38 to $45 per cup.  i just can't afford that at the moment.  when i search for menstrual cups on ebay again only brings up all the 'buy it now' sales none of the auction only ones.  what am i doing wrong?  i feel like i'm missing something...lol.

i would also consider the meluna cup so if anyone has any good tips on where to get that please let me know.  keep in mind i am in canada.

thanks everyone for listening.  i'm getting a little annoyed trying to find what i want...lol

Soon-to-be first time cup user, help please. :)
Hello :) I'm Lauren, and I've been wanting to use cups for a very long while.  I've never liked pads, and tampons aren't much better, so I'm excited to see how much better having periods can be.  Some background info on me: I'm 16 and a virgin.

I've been looking around at brands, sizes, prices, etc. and I think that I want a LadyCup.  At first it was between the LC and the Lunette, but the comfort of the LC/not being able to really feel it, is what truly appealed to me.  Now, I know that there is a steep learning curve that goes along with cups, and I've read that the LC can be harder to remove because of the soft silicone squishiness, but I'm prepared to spend some (a lot) of time practicing with this thing.  It's GOING to work, lol.  And I'm pretty well aware of my internal anatomy, I'd say.  I just don't want to get a firmer cup that's *less* comfortable than a softer cup, you know?  Because I'm sure they ALL take time to learn, not just the soft ones... :)  Optimal comfort is very important to me.

I'd appreciate if you ladies would let me know what you think about a young beginner getting the LadyCup as a first cup.  Is it feasible or just improbable that it would work?  I really am leaning toward the LadyCup, I think it's one of those "intuition" things.  Who knows.

My second question is about sizes.  The LC wesite says that a person who is my age and who is a virgin should get a small.  After reviewing the handy size charts, though, I'm not sure that's what I want.  Some of the appeal of using cups is the convenience of not having to empty it all the time, and the small LadyCup's capacity is quite small.  And my flow isn't exactly light.  It's not super duper heavy, but not light, either.  So, I was thinking that I'd want a large LC...?  My vagina is...well...slim, being young and a virgin and all, but I can get tampons...etc. in and out just fine. (TMI maybe, but...I can fit three fingers comfortably)  And when I first started looking at cups, I was considering the small Diva, which is the about the same size as a large LadyCup, right?  (In case anyone was wondering...I know that LC offers a double mix pack with both a small and a large, but I cannot afford that right now. :) )

My third question is more about the cervix.  Just out of curiosity...would that frequent suction in the vagina cause the cervix to eventually be sucked slightly downwards?  Or cause any kind of injury in there?

Thanks *a bunch* in advance!

Lady Cup
I'd like to order a Lady Cup.  I live in Canada any suggestions as to where I can get the best price?
