I was sorting through some old photos and I found a handful of BBS crowd pictures from my birthday party in 1992. These were taken right before Scott and I "dated," so they're mostly of him, but soooooo funny. He found my NKOTB shirts in my closet, and put them all on...all at the same time. Also featured in the photos are Olivia, Richard, Matt Hicks, Marc Brawner, and a glimpse of Mattie. Good times. :)

Anyone else have any pix from back in the day? I'd love to see them if you do. I have a nifty photo scanner that does stacks of photos, so I'd be glad to contribute the scanning efforts. ;)

I have received a lukewarm response from LJ folks so far, so I guess many of you are sitting on the fence about what to do about New Years. Are you planning to sit at home maybe? Gonna spend another New Years playing World of Warcraft or Windows Solitare? Going to go to some movie marathon snoozefest or something?

If you remember a little girl splitting her head open on an arcade game at a Pizza Hut... that was my sister.

If you remember someone getting fed up with the slow service at Pizza Hut, ordering Domino's, and getting thrown out... that was my mother.

If you remember a little girl with glasses who mostly sat around reading fantasy novels, playing games, and otherwise ignoring you, that was me. :)

In case you missed the happy news, poormattie (Necro, etc.) and I (Rain, Chocolate Kiwi, etc.) got engaged on Monday! =)

Soon we will join the ranks of other happily married couples who met on the local BBS scene. =) I've had to explain to lots of people what a BBS is lately since everyone's been asking how we met and whatnot. It's not as easy as one would think, especially since a lot of people aren't aware there was anything before the internet. =)

It's been over ten years since I lived in Memphis, and one of the biggest things I missed about it was the thriving BBS community, spearheaded by none other than ShadowScape (or Mongoose' Shadow, depending on how old school you are). I have no idea what handle I was using back in the day, but I am 90% positive it was PhantomOfTheOpera. I was around 12-13 at the time, and attending Collierville Middle School. My major memories are arranging to meet two of the girls from the BBS at an arcade with my friend Trevor, and talking to another one of the girls (GreenJello, I *think*) about how "Primus is coming with Pantera!" over the phone late one night.

Man, I've missed this. :)

And I'm 32 (ungh) so I was in college when I first got my U of M (err, MSU in them days VAX account). And giggled with joy at no-graphics websites and spent my free time in IRC.

Lots of interest has been shown in a reunion now that Shadowscape went back up, if only for the time being. Of course, this isn't just for 'scapers, so everyone ought to come down. Preliminary scuttlebutt is that it will be wel attended by many old and long forgotten faces.

Tell anyone and everyone who was even remotely involved with the scene. A conjunction like this is not again likely in our lifetimes.
