Abandoned wonderlands
Hey fellow Melbourne froot-loopz!

Does anyone know of any abandoned/condemnded etc... buildings around melbourne? pref. inner city/northern suburbs? I've got a definite interest in photography along these lines.

subterranean is good, as long as there's no mutant goldfish etc...

well then, there's plenty. you might like to get in touch with the cave clan, or similar sorts.

I think the half destroyed church at the top of Maribyrnong Road, near Ascot Vale Rd, is rather interesting - if you can avoid all the Uniting Church signs.

They're also doing major works at the Showgrounds right now, and they've bulldozed most of the very ugly old pavilions, but there's one old one that seems to be being retained, and it's stuck on its own in the middle of a wasteland surrounded by heavy machinery and piles of dirt and new pipes.

Not sure if any of that helps. Good luck with the mutant goldfish. ;)

Aren't there giant signs regarding unsafety and so on there?

asbestos is my biggest issue. very much terrifies me. i know it's safe unless you crack it, but all you'd need is to step on a piece to catch a fragment.

Not abandoned, but awesome, is Degraves Subway (under flinders st) - there are some fabulous nooks and crannies, and if you've got an in with anyone who works there, the bathrooms for the stores are so very cool.

Cnr Bouverie St, and Victoria st (parade) is the old beer brewery that burnt down. 2 story bluestone building, completely burnt out on the interior. Has some graffiti, some squatting has taken place so drug paraphanalia is present on the site. Hard to access as windows are barred from the original building construction. Easiest access is to jump the back fence from Swanston St.
