| Combat System Revisions Discussion |
[25 Nov 2008|04:15pm] |
I like a lot of Alloy's proposal, and would like to implement at least part of it in any future combat system revisions. The ability to do revisions is based entirely on the unpaid labor of people who are not me.
For the sake of not hammering people's friends lists with a giant block of text, my comments on Alloy's post is beneath a LJ cut.

| Killing Your Babies: How A Player Pitch Becomes A Timeline Event |
[10 Nov 2008|03:00pm] |
The current situation with the Mavericks began earlier in the year when the Able 2 project was proposed. Able 2 was always intended to be an Irregular city constructed in Europe for the purposes of making an anchorhead in contested territory. The technique the Irregulars would use to distract people from their plans, conveniently devised by Lumine, was to have there appear to be a schism in the Irregulars on the topic of Able 2. The goal was to make it appear that some of the Irregulars wanted to keep lashing out violently, while the others would maintain their old Irregular ways.
This was the very early version of what would be informally called "Mavericks 2.0"; as Epsilon's player it was obvious what Lumine really wanted to do, and Epsilon had been planning for such an event for a very long time... but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
I was approached in early September by Lumine and Signas with the original version of "Mavericks 2.0". Their core idea is that they wanted to create an organization that was driven more by a desire to wipe out humanity than be Reploid separatists. From the first draft of their proposal document:
The Mavericks 2.0 are a splinter group of the Irregulars, lead by Lumine. They have a ‘Back to Basics’ thrust and aim to, essentially, get rid of humanity. Believing mechanical life is superior to organic life in every way, the Mavericks 2.0 (not what they actually call themselves) are a violent, destructive force. They act as a catalyst to hero factions and a foil for less ‘evil’ bad guy factions.

| Infiltration! Episode 17: Round 2 Finale |
[20 Aug 2008|03:00am] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Mai Atsuki and Linnea Blossom.
Vincente lights up the cigar he cut in the last episode with a match. "Our acting second round finale, unless I manage to convince the trustees of the museum to let me run the other group of ninjas through, features two ninjas. Can two people do better than one?"
( Episode 17. )
"And that's it, I think," Vincente says, returning to the studio. "Unless I can convince the trustees to let me do something in the museum one more time, round 2's over. I'll be starting the online voting and figuring out what to do about our last group of ninjas in the meantime. Vote for your favorite teams!"
Vincente puffs on his cigar. "As for the final round," he says, "I guess you'll just have to wait and see."
The episode ends.

| Infiltration! Episode 16: Show Some Control |
[20 Aug 2008|02:45am] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Dynamo.
Vincente sits back in his chair, one leg crossed over the other, and snaps the end off a cigar with a one-handed cutter. "Dynamo does something nobody else did in the whole competition. He's just full of surprises."
( Episode 16. )
"That was pretty good," Vincente says. "But I've got at least one more group left. Robots have done okay, as have individual ninjas. What about two ninjas? We'll find out next time."
The episode ends.

|
| Infiltration! Episode 15: Inventing A New Fetish |
[20 Aug 2008|02:30am] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Marino.
Vincente twirls a candy bar between his fingers. He smiles enigmatically. "Today, we get served up an operation by Marino. I'd buy that for a zenny!"
( Episode 15. )
Vincente unwraps the candy bar. "The sweet taste of success," he says, taking a bite. He talks with his mouth full. "We'll see how our last surviving solo entrant did next time."
The episode ends.

|
| Infiltration! Episode 14: Need For Speed |
[20 Aug 2008|02:00am] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Pureri.
Vincente appears just long enough to yell, "All right, chums! Let's do this!"
There is no further explanation.
( Episode 14. )
Vincente takes a handkerchief out of his breast pocket and daubs at his neck and forehead. "I get winded just watching that. Speed's a hell of a thing, especially if you're good enough to fix your mistakes along the way. Quick thinking will get you out of more stuff than raw speed will, but quick thinking and raw speed are a deadly combination. Good work, Pureri."
"Next time: Maxim becomes one of our sponsors."
The episode ends.

|
| Infiltration! Episode 13: Life In The Slow Lane |
[20 Aug 2008|01:30am] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Quiet Man.
Vincente appears in his sitting room, playing with a silver fob watch. He dangles it in front of him, swaying it back and forth like a hypnotist. "Time is an important thing to keep in mind on a mission. How much time you use up can come back to bite you in the ass if you go too slow. Let's see someone who used all the time in the world."
( Episode 13. )
Vincente is asleep in his chair. The camera watches him doze for about 10 seconds. The lights fade down, and someone comes out and puts a blanket on Vincente's lap.
The episode ends.

| Infiltration! Episode 12: Barely Legal |
[20 Aug 2008|01:00am] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Infinity Mijinion.
Round 2 of Infiltration! starts on the main feed at the beginning of August after taking a month hiatus for a critically acclaimed telenovela series that took its slot. It's down to two nights a week, Monday and Friday, so to stretch out the series through the end of August. The finale is scheduled to run directly against the premiere episodes of GNN's Monday night lineup in September.
Vincente Sumiyama appears, sitting in a lavish sitting room. The room is filled with fine furniture with a distinct South American flavor. The man himself is seated in a sinister looking Villain Chair in front of a wide picture window looking out over a lush jungle. His hands are folded in front of him.
"Good evening," Vincente says. "I'm Vincente Sumiyama." A winning grin. "Welcome back to N1's latest and greatest game show, Infiltration!"
Vincente goes through the standard introduction. "Infiltration! is an event designed to test the abilities of our contestants to break and enter while causing as little damage to themselves or others as possible. It is a game of physical ability, mental agility and more than a little luck. This is the second of three mission types. I consider this one to be of intermediate difficulty."
The screen cuts to a beauty shot of an enormous 400+ carat yellow-brown diamond. "The target for this mission is the Incomparable Diamond, currently on display at the São Paulo Museum Of Natural History. All they have to do is go into the museum, remove this diamond from its vault, and escape without being stopped."
Vincente appears again with a little smile on his face. "Of course, when they leave the museum, they've got to also get all the way through the city, then find a way to get to my yacht out in international waters. And all within 24 hours. Sound difficult? It was."
He folds his hands. "Now. Before we get to the serious entries, I should say that I'm currently in a legal dispute with the São Paulo Museum Of Natural History because of the way the Irregulars behaved. They sent in a robot that wasn't registered in the event, didn't respect the boundaries of the competition, and was probably just in it to steal the diamond for himself. In the interest of setting the record straight, I'm going to show everyone the whole thing we have on tape."
"And, you know, talk about it."
N1 spinny!
( Episode 12. )
Vincente appears again. "That's everything that happened. The Mavericks can try to say that I was being unfair, that I put them in a trap -- but they were the ones who broke the rules and hurt people. I'm just trying to run a fair contest, trying to give everyone a chance to play, but instead I get this sort of treatment. It's to be expected from a bunch of genocidal maniacs! Dicks!"
Vincente smiles. "Next time, we'll see somebody who played by the rules -- maybe a little too much."
The episode ends.

| Character Cocktails - Meme |
[04 Aug 2008|12:54am] |
Inspired somewhat by this themed bar night and our own ramblings, we were thinking about what cocktails or special drinks might be named after your character.
Post your ideas and thoughts below! Now obviously if you aren't a drinker you can look on Wikipedia for something that seems close, or elsewhere on the internet like many bartending list sites.
It's Ok to post a virgin drink if you don't want your drink to be alcoholic. Basically it can be as strong as you want. We already decided that the Shirley Temple has been renamed the Zero. :)

| Infiltration! Episode 11: First Round Finale |
[16 Jun 2008|05:00pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Dynamo.
Vincente sits in his sitting room, holding a glass of scotch in one hand and a lit cigar in the other. "And now, without further delay, the correct way to run the mission."
( Episode 11. )
"If he'd just been quicker," Vincente says, back in the studio. "Oh well! That was still incredibly bad-ass. Dynamo wins round 1 decisively."
Vincente picks up the case from beside his chair, sliding it up on his lap and aiming the locks toward the camera. "So I bet you're wondering what I put in the case. I'll tell you first that it's always been the same case, and the contents have not been altered in any way. I've opened this case once since the competition started, and that was for Marino. Before and after every run, the case is scanned and audited by a third party -- my insurance agents -- to verify the contents are the same."
Vincente moves his hands over the locks, opening the biometric interlocks blind. The locks part with a heavy clank, the case slightly popping ajar. There's a yellow-white glow from the inside that splashes across Vincente's legs. "Every team has run this same case, with the same contents, across Rio. Each one's handed it back to me without hesitation."
Vincente opens the case.

| Infiltration! Episode 10: Sinking Baskets |
[11 Jun 2008|11:00pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Quiet Man.
Vincente, once more in his sitting room, leans forward toward the camera. "There's two more contestants left in this round. I saved the best two for last. First up is Quiet Man, who absolutely nailed it. Now that you've seen how other people have screwed things up, watch this smooth criminal glide through. I don't think he'll have it so easy next time, but we'll see!"
( Episode 10. )
Back in the studio, Vincente picks up a wad of paper next to his chair and sinks a perfect basket on the far side of the shot with it. "That was some sweet, sweet action. But there's one more person, one last competitor on the list -- somebody who almost did my little simulation perfectly. And you'll meet that person -- next time."
The episode ends. Suspense!

|
| Infiltration! Episode 9: Getting Irregular |
[07 Jun 2008|04:00pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features a whole bunch of Irregulars.
Vincente looks directly into the camera, looking genuinely perplexed. "I have no idea why they thought this would work."
The episode begins immediately afterward. The only commentary is the use of a delicate classical music piece whenever Sting Chameleon is on the screen and thrash metal music hooks whenever any other Irregulars show up. Vincente apparently had no idea what to say.
( Episode 9. )
Vincente sits back, looking dumbfounded. Yeah.
The episode ends.

|
| Infiltration! Episode 8: The Kids Are All Right |
[07 Jun 2008|03:30pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Axl and Pureri.
Vincente appears in his sitting room, folding his arms behind his head. "Today, we see what the next generation of juvenile deliquents can do. A lot of adults have dropped the ball on this mission. Can Axl and Pureri do better? Let's look!"
( Episode 8. )
Back in the studio, Vincente adjusts his hat with the back of his hand. "Boy, that was a close one! I thought for a minute there that they were both totally done for. But they pulled it off! What a great performance!"
"Tune in next time for the wildest Infiltration! yet!"
The episode ends.
|
|
| Infiltration! Episode 7: Going To Ground |
[07 Jun 2008|03:00pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Mai Atsuki and Linnea Blossom.
Vincente leads off the episode with the opening theme from "The Odd Couple", bobbing his head along to the music in his chair before speaking like an announcer. "One's a busty, sexy assassin from the Far East! The other's a fiery redheaded brawler from the land of ice and snow! Together -- they break into buildings!"
( Episode 7. )
Vincente appears again, laughing moderately at the antics of the two women. "Oh, those two! Tune in next time for more wild adventures in breaking into buildings on Infiltration!"
The episode ends.
|
|
| Infiltration! Episode 6: Project Mayhem |
[06 Jun 2008|06:30pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features the Ouroboros Ninja Team.
Vincente appears again, eating out of a box of Chinese take-out expertly with a set of chopsticks in one hand. He puts the take-out aside as the episode begins in earnest.
"What happens when two ninjas and a robot death machine try to get into an office building to take a briefcase?"
Beat.
"What DOESN'T happen?"
( Episode 6. )
Vincente picks back up his box of take-out. "If you think you've seen it all by now -- you haven't seen anything yet. The competitors to come take this event to a whole new level of ingenuity, stealth, and tactical brilliance. Tune in next time and be amazed!"
The episode ends.
|
|
| Infiltration! Episode 5: Giant Brass Balls |
[06 Jun 2008|06:00pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Blackhand.
Vincente appears again, this time holding a weighty book in his hands. It's the latest novel by the Irregular Blackhand, getting free publicity on the episode. Vincente closes the book thoughtfully and looks to the camera.
"Now we've started to see some winners," Vincente says. "Mysterious Thief M was able to squeak into the next round. But how will world-renowned author and dream-weaver Blackhand fare against my humble course?"
( Episode 5. )
Back in the studio, Vincente picks back up the book.
"Blackhand told us a great story," Vincente says, "but greater things are yet to come! Tune in next time for another episode of Infiltration!"
The episode ends.
|
|
| Infiltration! Episode 4: Somebody Passes |
[06 Jun 2008|05:30pm] |
This episode of Infiltration! features Marino.
Vincente appears in his sitting room, looking particularly satisfied with himself.
"Infiltration! is a challenging event, full of risk and danger. So far, we've seen three people do it wrong. Will the fourth attempt do better?! Let's see!"
( Episode 4. )
But you see nothing, as back in the studio, Vincente folds his arms across his chest.
"So what *is* in the case? I'll tell you at the end of this round, and not before. Until next time!"
The episode ends.

|
| Infiltration! Episode 3: These Guys Conquered Sri Lanka |
[04 Jun 2008|07:30pm] |
Another episode of Infiltration! This episode features Red and Soldier Stonekong.
Vincente appears in his sitting room, his usual silk shirt replaced with a black Gospel NetMafia t-shirt. The hat stays on.
"On this episode of Infiltration!, Red and Soldier Stonekong come to my little event and manage to terrify a lot of people."
Vincente plays a warning klaxon, screen flashing red. "Warning! This episode features scary images that might not be suitable for small children. Viewer discretion is advised."
( Episode 3. )
Back in the studio, Vincente takes off his black Gospel t-shirt in an impressive pull, showing off his impressive, whipcord-lean musculature. That's for the ladies. He has a few scars on his body, likely from the Maverick attacks he's suffered in the past. Vincente pauses to put back on his hat before he continues.
"I guess that didn't work out either," Vincente says, reaching over to slide back on his silk shirt. "Is anybody going to pass this challenge? It's going to be a pretty boring second level if they don't! Tune in next time to see if anybody's macho enough to pass the challenge."
( Stinger. )

|
| Infiltration! Episode 2: All The Wrong Moves |
[04 Jun 2008|07:00pm] |
Another episode of Infiltration! This one is said to feature Surf.
Vincente appears in his sitting room again. "Welcome back," he says. "On this episode of Infiltration!, we see what the notorious Surf, master of the Jaegerninjas, can do when faced with his most fearsome opponent: An office building."
Vincente's grin indicates just how poorly this is about to go.
( Episode 2. )
Back in the studio, Vincente tips his hat up. "So yeah, that didn't go well either. But maybe this is a job for the professionals, right? How about the former rulers of Sri Lanka, Red Alert, affiliated with the Gospel NetMafia? Maybe they have some techniques we haven't seen yet that will let them get through my trivially easy little event without a glitch."
Vincente's grinning again. This is a hint.
The episode ends.
