Hullo everyone! This is Hans Tseng of Directions of Destiny here, makin' my very first post onto Mechanical Penguin! So I guess I should give a brief backstory about this art blog: Niko (of Fantasy Realms) and I have wanted to have some sort of close webcomic community for months now. We didn't have too many webcomic friends, and we like to feel loved. :( So about two weeks ago, I thought, "Hey. Livejournal community...??" So I IMed Niko about it, and he was like, "OKAY. LET'S DO IT."

...I don't know, Niko. I was thinking, like. in the near future. Like, after I finished working on my book? >_o (More on that later!) But in any case, we pretty much immediately harassed our favourite webcomic artists from there, and omitting a few small details, we finally come to. Today! Where the Mechapenguin is thriving and happy, as it should be--because who knows when it will go out of deception mode (blue eyes) and turn to Massive Damage Mode (RED EYES. YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW).
Ahh okay that's quite enough of my historical rambling. As mentioned, I had been feverishly working on my comic book (lawl! Shameless plug. Please don't be pressured to click through it multiple times and whip out your credit card or anything. Please! Don't!), so while I would have loooved to have been the first poster here and hog all the fame and glory to myself, I instead had to keep the interwebs back at least 40 yards from where I stood in order to not become distracted as to MISS MY DEADLINE (because who knows how many times I had pushed it back!). Well, long story short, as of Tuesday morning, I had officially completed it! All 248 pages! BWAAAAHH~! Now I have all the free time I want for the ENTIRE SUMMER! (You know, between, ah, updating the comic regularly, doing all the site revamps I'd been planning to do, working on a few illustrations to sell at Anime Expo, getting stuff ready for studying in Japan next year, playing video games, etc. etc. etc...) So to celebrate, I! Drew! Pictures! For! Fun! ...NOT that the book wasn't fun--because it was!--but just that in combination with the lethal deadline...well, ah, you know, I kind of cut my life short by about 10 years.
AND THAT is quite enough of my GENERAL rambling. The POINT of this post IS: here's a doodle of Luka and Magnolia Alatus, the headmaster and (former?) headmistress of the Alatus Institute of Higher Academics, back when they were students of the academy~!
I've actually gotten a fair share of readers e-mailing me to ask where I drew inspiration for the costume designs in my comic; this picture should make it rather evident that they generally come from various military uniforms, which I mostly found from image-googling. :D() (There are the occasion elements of marching band in these uniforms, but they're pretty much the same thing!) As you can see~ the male uniforms, especially that of the Student Council, back when Luka was still in school were somewhat more formal and heavy than their counterparts of the current Alatus. I thought about adding tassels to his epaulet, but ah, that was just a little overdoing it. As for the female uniforms, Magnolia isn't in the Student Council in this particular picture, so they look quite a bit similar to the current regular female uniforms; only the sleeves are a little poofier, and the skirt is slightly longer and wider. However, seeing as it probably won't be a while before these uniforms show up in the actual comic, I still have plenty of time to revise them as I see fit. :D But feedback is appreciated!
