I love these lines. The meaning is pretty clear: the beginning of our life was turning out great, but it went downhill from there. If we took it according to the story of TBP, it would be about the Patient giving up on everything and eventually dying. And because of that, this song makes me think of all the wrongs I've done in my life, and if it ended now: would I be happy about it? Would I think the life I lived was worthwhile? These lines always remind me that, after looking back for a short period of time, I should always remember to look forward, too, and always try to live my life to the fullest. Although the message is represented by the band so many other times, these lyrics really stand out to me because of the way they are presented in the song.

At the very end of "Our Lady of Sorrows", what do you think Gerard says? (I mean after the immortality line, he screams something...) Every lyric site I look up says something slightly different. :P

how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying

most people that i've talked about this line with don't understand it. "immortality does mean never dying" personally, i think losing someone you really care about helps you understand the lyric. my mom died 11 years ago and i still think of her every day. whenever i think about her, this lyric runs through my head... i was curious what others thought of the lyric (people who don't dismiss it as some emo dude trying to be existential)
