Hey everyone! So, I was given free rein to decorate this place and since Halloween is approaching, I thought a Halloween theme would be appropriate. I'll be putting it up shortly. Yay! I've got it up now. I hope you all like it!

I'd like to welcome [info]x_gh0st_x as our newest mod. He'll be doing all the art and graphics so that the winners will have awesome graphics.

Welcome!

And thanks to [info]crossbow1 for making us some lovely new banners for advertising. See the rules mod post comments and spread the word!

New Challenge: Pumpkins

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Cheshire Cat
Challenge: Pumpkins
Word count: exactly 100. No more, no less. Not 99, not 101, 100.
Deadline: Sunday October 12th, 11:59 pm.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes, pumpkin pies, jack o'lanterns, smashing pumpkins, carving pumpkins, pumpkin tattoos, it's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Let's kick off the season (and the new series of challenges) with a bang (or a splat, whatever!) and write about Pumpkins!

You have one week (more or less). Remember, you cannot post your fics anywhere but here, including your journal, until after winners have been declared.

Happy Writing!

Welcome back! New Rules and Regs. Please read!

So an email covering the rules and new information. Please take a look at this whether you are new or are an old hand at this community.

***We will be posting weekly challenges once again, starting in just a few minutes, and I wanted to start off with a nice, boring post stating the rules and regulations, which will be as below unless stated otherwise within the challenge. The start and end dates will be Sunday nights/Monday mornings. Failure to comply with these rules will result in disqualification.

***Rules: You can write up to three drabbles for the challenge, but you cannot repeat characters. Please keep your focus on the MCR band members and assorted employees, i.e. guitar techs, security guards, and managers are okay; girlfriends and wives, non-band family members and friends, are not. You can do crossovers with other band or famous personalities (for example, Steven Smith from Fuse, Bert McCracken from The Used, Adam Lazzara from Taking Back Sunday, etc.).

***On Sunday night at 11:59 pm, the challenge will be closed (whether or not I or another mod officially close it at that moment or not.) At that time or shortly thereafter, I will post a screened entry in which you may vote for three drabbles in the order of which you liked them best to least. I will also post the new challenge at that time. You will not be able to vote for yourself. Please note: those who write MUST vote in the challenge in order for their drabble to qualify. You will have one week to vote. Winners will be posted the following Monday (along with the closure of the next challenge).

***You must not post your challenge fic in any other journal or community (including your own) until after the challenge is complete and winners have been declared.

Clear as mud? If not, this is the place to ask, or drop me a PM or email at ocelot.daemon@gmail.com with the subject line, "MCR_100 question".

One more thing: Please promote. I believe we have banners and such still on the bio page, but if everyone could put this on their journal and/or their communities, that would be awesome. Let's announce our grand reopening! The world needs more MCR, after all. Help us spread the love!

Happy Writing!

Hello my lovelies...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Hello folks, I hope you've been enjoying your summer. Or winter, in the Southern Hemisphere. Or whatever season you are naturally experiencing this time of year.

Last night some discussions were had between myself and Bullets, the other mod about what we were going to do with this community. And the thing is, well. We're both incredibly insanely busy with our lives right now, and both of us are really pulling back from fandom a lot because of it.

That said, neither of us wants to see this community go away, but that's up to all of you.

This is what we're going to need if we want to start back up:

1. A mod/maintainer who will be doing most of the work. This includes setting up challenges, closing them down, and making banners. You must know the basic lj html at the least and be familiar with the format, which I'm assuming you are, if you're reading this. This means you must also be available and at least fairly consistent (because, you know, Bullets and I were SO great about that! /sarcasm) on a weekly basis. Comments will be screened, so this is the place to tell me if you want it, and why.

2. We need you to promote. We have banners on the bio page, put those on your journal, in your communities. Remind people that we exist and how awesome we are. We may be short, and we're not always sweet, but we are well-written. :)

3. This one is the important one, folks. PARTICIPATION! We need you all to write for the challenges, and we need you to vote for the winners. Make our hopefully up-and-coming new mod's life difficult but oh-so-worth it with your fabulous prose.

So. My aim is to have a new challenge in the next couple weeks, at least before the end of this month, now that school is back in session.

So, any thoughts? Suggestions? Takers for the mod position?

Missed Opportunities...

Okay, in chatting with [info]x_gh0st_x, we decided it would be fun to open up the community for the summer to non-challenge posting.

Here's how it works:

Any of the challenges that you wanted to write for but missed the deadline? Now's your chance to write and post it. You don't have to stick to the challenges, though let's keep it MCR-centric, if you don't want to, but it could be fun to revisit some of the old prompts.

Also, what about those pieces that just ran under/over/out? Or you had an idea for a challenge but couldn't contain it to the word count? Want to develop a drabble into a longer piece? Here's your chance!

I'm going to give a rough estimate of getting back into challenges in say, September or October, once we in the Northern Hemisphere have settled back into Autumn and our Southern Hemi friends go into Spring fever.

I'll update and post the list of challenges on the bio page where the winners are all listed if you want to look back over them.

Happy posting!

So, here's the thing:

Right now, we have no banners, as I mentioned in the previous post. I'd be thrilled if someone would be willing to make banners for the Chicago winners and for the ones previous that have no banners, any volunteers?

But more than that, there have been a severe shortage of posts lately. I've come to the decision that I'm not putting Rock the Boat up to a vote as there were only three entries (again) and they were all fantastic.

The fact is, with summer here, people have other things they are doing that usually don't involve sitting inside on a computer writing stories.

The band has gone on hiatus. I'm taking my cue from them and from you all and for the rest of the summer as, really? Life is kicking my ass right now, in a good way, but it's still there-- [info]mcr_100 is also going on hiatus.

Go, get out in the sun, have some fun, and then in the autumn, we'll all come back and start writing again hopefully fresh from the summer and brimming with inspiration!

Happy Summer!

Winners!!!!!

Chicago voting is closed (but you all knew that, I'm just late late late).

Alas, we have no banners still. I'm looking for a volunteer to make banners for the community; anyone up to the challenge?

Without further ado.

Challenge 33: Rock the Boat

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Cheshire Cat
Theme: Rock the Boat
Word Count: 100 or 200 or 300 exactly. That means the fic must have NO MORE or NO LESS than 100 or 200 or 300 words. One of those options.
Closing Date:May 30th, 11 pm Eastern time or equivalent or something like that. I've decided to set these right now at just over every two weeks but at the 15th and 30th of the month.

The challenge for this week is Rock the Boat. You can write up to three short short stories or drabbles so long as each hits one of the word counts above exactly.

Okay, for a full set of rules, see the bio page here. Two important ones: You must hit the word count exactly and you must not post this in any other community, including your own journal, before the challenge ends and winners have been announced.

Challenge 32: Chicago is closed and thus, voting begins!

I have screened the comments for this entry. That means when you leave a comment, it will only be visible to you and the moderators. This means no one but you and the moderators will see who you have voted for.

You must vote for three drabbles, in the order that you liked them (AKA top to bottom; meaning that the fic you liked the most will be the first one I see under your name, and the one you liked third being the third one I see. Need I tell you where number two goes? Didn't think so). Please list the name of the drabble and the author whilst voting, and if you wrote for this challenge please vote using the same LJ name you posted your entries with, or your entries will be disqualified because I won't know that you've voted. If you do not vote for three of them, your vote will not be counted.

Obviously, you can't vote for yourself.

If you wrote for this challenge, you must vote, or your entries will all be disqualified. I cannot stress this enough, guys! So please, make sure you get your votes in! People who didn't write are also encouraged to vote!

You have a week to get your votes in before the winners are announced, so get voting!

Shall we review the entries? )

I'm sorry folks, but I'm exhausted. It's been a long day, and I will post winners, voting for Chicago, and the new challenge tomorrow.

The Challenge for "Chicago" is going on until May 14th. Give me some fics, please folks?

At that time, I'll also tally up the votes we have going right now. Also, if you are one of the three people that wrote, you can choose to vote for yourself or not - so if you leave the third one blank, that's fine, if you vote for yourself (THIS TIME ONLY folks, any other time will DQ your vote) that's fine too.

Theme: Territorial Pissings
Word Count: 100 exactly. That means the fic must have NO MORE or NO LESS than 100 words.
Closing Date: April 23, 11:00 pm ET or your equivalent. (Slight time change, due to the fact that since I work in the morning, it's easier if I get this stuff posted a bit earlier.)

The challenge this week is "territorial pissings." Urban Dictionary gives as good of a definition as any: "Song by nirvana. A term used for marking ones boundary or property. Pissing as a sign for leaving a mark on something." Taken literally, it could mean, rather like a cat, urinating to establish one's property or boundaries. Not so literally, well... you all get to decide how you want to interpret it.

Some discussion about the rules -- IMPORTANT to read, even if you've read them before, please. )

You have a week, folks. Can't wait to see what you all deliver.
