I have been off-line here, sorry
We are connected to the internet in strange ways, so that only two people can be online at once, and those two people seem to be not me. I have snuck on for a moment, I have so much to say, but, I'm not sure how much time I have.
We managed to get to Pittsburgh safe and sound with no bridges! We have been put up in something that calls itself an Inn, but really seems to be furnished apartments. We have two bedrooms, one with a large bed, one with a single bed, a small full kitchen, and a living room/dining room combo. Scott and I are in the big bed room, Winter in the small, and Sky has taken over the living room. They gave us a bed for her, but she is sleeping on the couch instead. It is more room than we have had since Rochester Institute of Tech. I think this is one of the nicest places we have stayed. The only thing that would make it better would be Wi-Fi so that we could all be online at once, and a stopper for the tub so that I could take a bath.
Winter has been having trouble with her laptop again, (it's been a whole two weeks since it was last fixed...) and we discovered that there was an Apple Store just a few blocks away. Again we encountered lovely people. I must commend whoever it is that hires people there. They took her computer to get it fixed in house, and instead of having it done by the close of business on Friday as they had promised, they had it done before noon on thursday which only about 15 or so hours after it had been dropped off. So, yay them.
We have been spending a lot of time with my friend Sydelle which is great as it has been far too long since I have seen her. We visited with her on Wednesday night, yesterday she hung out for a bit before the talk, went to the talk with us, and then dinner after. As I sit here writing this, I am waiting for the girls to wake up and Sydelle to arrive so that we can go play a bit before we join Scott who is on campus.
Yesterday will go down as one of the really good days of the tour. It started with snow. How can you get better than that. We were called to pick up Winter's computer, so that made us even happier. Winter and I went to pick it up, and get me some food (I don't like the cereal that we picked up to eat in the appt.). It was so much fun to watch Winter light up in the snow, several people made "oh, look at that adorable little girl" type comments as we passed by. I have not seen her so happy in a very long time.
In the end, we didn't actually do anything but hang out before the talk. We had hoped to take in a museum before, but with the talk being at 4:30 and Scott needing to be there at 3:30, it just wasn't going to happen. As it was, we were late getting to the school. That was partly due to the snow, and partly just us taking too long to get our acts together and out. When we did get there, we were met by Cathy from the school who got us to the theatre and helped get things going. At the theatre, waiting for us was Theresa, who is the student actually responsible for getting Scott out here, as she did all the work. Thank you Theresa, and thanks to Cathy as well, who I really enjoyed talking to.
We had a really nice size audience, especially since the weather was not overly conducive for being out and about in. Both Scott and Sky did their thing, though Winter chose not to field questions. The audience seemed to really enjoy themselves and I think it went well. When the talking parts were over and Q&A started, people started leaving, so I am hoping that was a "Got to get to class" or maybe a "Don't want to be stranded in the snow" thing, but it felt weird. After the talk the line for autographs went almost the length of the theatre and took about an hour for Scott to get through, so I guess there were a lot of people still there.
Cathy gave Scott a gift of a lovely travel clock, and then had to hurry off, Theresa was late for a class, so she too needed to hurry away, but she gave us a recommendation of a place to eat. I think she was secretly upset that I had not had to cross a bridge yet, so she sent us to a restaurant on the riverside, which meant that I needed to cross a bridge in the dark, in the snow with lots of ice, in the outside lane. Grrr. This was not the kind of bridge that would normally scare me; mostly I am afraid of heights, and this one wasn't that high, it was just really narrow, and icy and in the dark. I am hoping that Carmen sends us a non bridge way when we leave tomorrow. The restaurant was an Italian place, called Bravo, and was very good.
As I write this, it is 11:50am, the girls are still asleep, Scott is off at the Art Department, and I am waiting for my friend Sydelle to arrive, and we will try yet again to see something. It looks like there might be more snow, but hopefully it will be done falling in time for us to have a beautiful but safe drive up to Nova Scotia, which is where we will be heading tomorrow morning. I don't know if I will be able to squeeze anymore computer time today, but we will be staying somewhere else tomorrow night, and one can only hope that there will be internet for all there.
I have not checked my email in days, so if you have written to me and not heard back, that is probably why. I won't have time to check it today, as I need to get us out of here, but I will try to get to email tomorrow night.
21 days and counting (and "Thanks" to the person yesterday who wished me a happy 22 days and counting, you made my day!).
