Insertion?
[info]belacycle
2009-02-16 10:46 pm UTC (link)
What is the difference between the two when you insert them? Do they go in similarly? I have the keeper but did not find their website helpful. I inserted mine the way a diva cup would since their website had pictures and was much more clear about getting it in. However now I am not sure I did the right thing. I am feeling a bit cramped also this is my first time so maybe I am feeling the discomfort I have read about so much. What would you say I should do.... Which is the best way to insert and remove my Keeper. I own the"The Keeper Mooncup" Version B (although I had a child I find this one to be more comfortable then the 'A'-- Should I be using the A instead? Many questions I know. Hope you can help.

Hi there,

This is the sort of question that belongs in [info]menstrual_cups. Please post it there. Sorry the instructions on this post were not specific, but I wasn't expecting anyone to find it since I hadn't posted about it yet.

Thanks!

Maybe it'd be a good idea to add separate tags in addition to the broader "sports/physical activities" tag that has a number of posts about various activitives?

like: riding, biking, surfing.. and: swimming, scuba diving?

That might be a bit overkill, but I'm considering adding a tag for swimming, since we seem to get a few posts for that activity specifically.

Hey peeps,

Just wondering if I can post my Instead cup pictures and review, cuz the one-week posting block has been on for two weeks. Also, I'm not sure why, but... I can't get my photobucket codes to show up as actual photos on live journal. When I put the code down they just show up as the code, or as a link. I tried both the IMG codes and the HTML ones. Anyone know why that happens?

Thanks,

M

Ovarian Cysts tag

Hi ladies. The ovarian cysts tag search thing is not working at the moment. And I kind of need to see what's been said (and I'm freaking out a bit) so is there any way around the link? Searching in the search box turns up no results.

Alicia cup -contacting the distributor and manufacturer mentioned by Samatha Backman
[info]iudmama
2009-04-20 05:01 pm UTC (link)
I have written 2 e-mails to the Ceo's of the companies Samantha Backman says are manufacturing and distributing the Alicia...

Since I mention "the menstrual cup community" and refer to some of the questions that have been brought up, I just wanted to run the emails by you all before I send them/post them here.
Let me know what you think.

This one is for Mr. Abhaya, CEO of LifeCell - I'm not including the one for Mr. Alves, CEO of Goldwin Medicare Ltd. because I'm exceeding the character count here...

Dear Mr. Abhaya,

I am writing to you today on behalf of a community of menstrual cup users who provide support and education regarding menstrual cup usage. At present we have over 4000 members worldwide and many of those individuals are actively involved in promoting menstrual cup usage in their local communities.

In recent months we have become aware of the use of menstrual cups to collect and preserve stem cells and I understand that much like Cryo-Cell's C'elle program, LifeCell is preparing to launch "Femme" for this purpose.

Some members of our community have recently been in contact with Samantha Backman regarding the Alicia menstrual cup/pod. Ms. Backman informs us that LifeCell is the retail distributor for the Alicia cup in India. As some of our members live in India and others travel there, the Alicia cup has generated a tremendous amount of interest.

Several questions have been brought up and, unfortunately, Ms. Backman has not been able to provide the details we are seeking. She has given us your contact information, so we are hoping you may be of assistance.
The most pertinent questions are as follows:

1. Will LifeCell be distributing the Alicia cup at a retail level or is it solely being used for stem cell collection?

2. We are aware that the Alicia cup will be available in 4 sizes, is it possible to find out the dimensions (in millimeters) for each size - diameter, length of cup, length of stem?

3. Ms. Backman tells us that Cryo-Cell is the distributor in the USA and 9 other countries. To our knowledge, Cryo-Cell's C'elle program has used the MoonCup from The Keeper, Inc. for collection purposes. Based on your ties with Cryo-Cell, do you have any knowledge of their intention to use the Alicia instead of or in addition to the MoonCup?

4. Ms. Backman has indicated that the Indian government has shown an interest in purchasing 800 million Alicia menstrual cups to distribute among the population - do you have any information regarding this?
We are a bit confused about the reason the Indian government would be interested as well as the number she says they are interested in purchasing. From our experience, a menstrual device of this nature is intended to be usable for up to 10 years. It is our understanding that the menstruating population of India is less than 300 million. Is there a piece of information we are missing somewhere?

5. From my personal experience with Cryo-Cell's cord blood donation program, there were strict guidelines in place for sample collection. Since collection of menstrual blood via a menstrual cup is inherently not done under sterile circumstances, what procedures do you have in place to maintain the integrity of the collected samples?

6. Does your company have any plans to establish a menstrual stem cell donation program for research or therapy purposes?

7. As there is a significant learning-curve to perfect use of a menstrual cup, and many women initially find insertion and removal to be challenging, what kind of support will be provided to the women who participate in the Femme program or purchase an Alicia?

Please use _____ to contact me.

I truly thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon.
I look forward to being able to share whatever information you are able to provide with the menstrual cup community.

Sincerely,
A.

The second one, for Mr. Alves, is similar, but questions are more geared towards manufacture and the statement she made regarding his contact w/the Indian gvt.

I like your curiosity :)

You are welcome to email whoever you like and ask whatever. I would ask that you make it clear that their replies will be reposted publicly, but I think your draft already does that.

For what it's worth, we have been contacted privately by Samantha Backman and she says she will provide more information in a few weeks.

moving to bbs?
[info]noptimum
2009-04-21 10:21 pm UTC (link)
Hi there,

I was wondering...has this community ever considered moving to a bbs/forum? It seems like that kind of format would make it easier to navigate and communicate and minimize all those double posts.

For example, even if I find a similar topic to my question, I might have something small to add to it and comment but then only the OP may see that I've added the comment since it is an older topic and at the bottom of the pile. Whereas if I did this in a bbs system, then once I've made the new comment it would bump the thread to the top and others will see that there is a new post.

The categorizing system of forums will also make it easier to find things...

I haven't been here long but I'm wondering that when this community first started, it wasn't anticipating so many users and the type of discussions that would be going on and that's why there are all the issues with too many posts and such.

Btw, I love this community! I'm just wondering if there might be a better medium for it...

Thanks =)

Hiya,

We're a LJ community, formed and grown on LJ and with no intention of moving anywhere. While LJ is a bit idiosyncratic and is difficult to navigate when you're new, I actually think it's a fantastic community system. I have had experience moderating traditional forums and much prefer this one, for all kinds of reasons I'm happy to get into if you're interested.

If you think a forum or BBS system would be good, you are very free to set one up yourself.

Thanks,
[info]scien

contact from Samantha Backman
[info]iudmama
2009-04-22 02:37 am UTC (link)
I have received an email from Samantha Backman and she says I may post it as long as it is for member viewing only and the contents cannot be Googled due to confidentiality issues and potential competitors having a peek into their strategy.

Forgive my ignorance, but if I post it for members only to view, will this keep it from being detected by Google?
As I recall, to have posting rights here, you must be a member. Would the cup companies who watch this forum be able to view the contents?

I'm thinking the best course of action might be to compose a recap of her email, leaving out what seems to be the most confidential of info, and send it to her for approval before posting it here.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks!

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]scien

Yep, it is. However, people are able to delete their posts and comments we're not able to stop them. All we're able to do is tell them we'd rather they didn't (it's in the userinfo) and revoke posting rights (have done).

As I mentioned in a comment above, Samantha has contacted us privately. She has said that she didn't want the information that was posted to be publicly available any longer. I explained how to friends lock her post but I guess she preferred to delete it entirely.

I have a copy of the post, so don't worry, it is not forever lost. But I have no wish to stir up drama by reposting it right now.

I often have a hard time finding the commonly-referenced posts on cup sizes (this one), pictures of different folds (this one and this one), etc. Could there be a tag added for "general reference" or "everybody start here" or something like that? The posts in question are tagged appropriately for their content, but there are so many other posts with the same tags that it's hard to dig through for those particular ones. And these posts have such generally-useful information I think they deserve a special tag saying so! Maybe there are other posts that would fit that tag too.

Also, just a moment ago I tried clicking on the "folds" tag on the side of the page in the community and got a message saying "Sorry, one or more specified tags do not exist." Is that tag gone but still in the sidebar?
