Matt Hardy underwent an emergency appendectomy in a Tampa, Fla. hospital tonight. He was scheduled to appear at tonight's SmackDown taping, but this suddenly came up. Hardy's expected to be out of action for one to three months. Hardy didn't appear at the tapings, so this health issue surfaced earlier in the day.

TAMPA, Fla. – SmackDown Superstar Matt Hardy underwent an emergency appendectomy at a Tampa area hospital tonight. Doctors expect the surgery to keep Hardy out of action anywhere from 1-3 months.

An appendectomy by definition is the removal of the appendix from the lower right area of the abdomen. Oftentimes, if the surgery is not performed immediately, severe consequences can follow.

Hardy’s emergency surgery comes less than a week after suffering a knee injury at the hands of his former partner, the United States Champion MVP. Did the attack by MVP help lead to the appendectomy that Hardy underwent tonight?

The United States Champion and 1/2 of the Tag Team Champions, "MVP" Montel
Vontavious Porter, came to the ring to host a VIP Lounge along with his
"posse." He said it's been one year since he joined WWE. His tag team
partner, Matt Hardy came to the ring and said that he had two gifts for
him. The first gift was a video package where he (Hardy) had MVP's best
moments placed in a music video. At first only sound was playing and Hardy
made a face like "Well, come on!" and then it aired. The video had moments
where MVP was getting his butt kicked by superstars such as Kane, Evander
Holyfield, including the Inferno Match where Kane sat MVP on fire. Also,
footage of the Hardy-MVP non-wrestling contests were aired as well.
Afterwards, MVP said that wasn't funny and Hardy said to calm down because
it was just a joke. Hardy said that he did have a gift for MVP and he gave
it to him. MVP unwrapped the present to reveal a bottle of Crystall. One
of MVP's friends tried opening the bottle and had a lot of trouble. Finally
the bottle was opened and as the Tag Team Champions were celebrating, Hardy
said that he has another present for MVP and that one is because he knows
MVP likes to pass challenges so tonight he has gotten MVP a match where he
will defend the United States Championship against KANE! MVP was not
pleased as Hardy celebrated back to the locker room.

In the ring, Matt Hardy lives his motto: "I will not die." Time and time again he has sacrificed his body for both the enjoyment of the fans, and the sport which he has loved so dearly for his entire life. Matt came to the WWE in 1998 as a tag team specialist, teaming up with his brother Jeff to form the appropriately named The Hardys. While severely undersized, The Hardys' outstanding chemistry and unmatched heart carried them to stardom. The Hardys went on to become five-time World Tag Team Champions in WWE before breaking up in 2002. In 2003, shortly after joining the SmackDown roster, Matt Hardy pursued the Cruiserweight Championship. After struggling for weeks to make the weight limit, Hardy defeated Kidman for the Championship at No Way Out '03. In 2004, Hardy was chokeslammed by Kane and sat at home for a few months. While Hardy was away, he learned that his long-time real life girlfriend, Lita, was having a sordid affair with Edge. Adding to an already emotional period, Matt was also released from WWE during the same time. It wasn't long before information regarding the personal hell Matt was experiencing became public knowledge. His faithful followers began to make their voices heard at WWE events across the country. In fact, Matt points out the crowd's reaction at Madison Square Garden at the April 12 Raw for starting his "movement." Unable to simply sit at the sidelines while his heart was wrenching, Matt started popping up uninvited at WWE events, wreaking havoc on Edge and Lita every chance he had. He even called in and crashed Lita's Byte This! interview, confronting her about their tumultuous relationship. Not long after, Mr. McMahon said that Hardy was starting fires all over the place, and he couldn't help but to pour gasoline on those fires by re-hiring Matt. After clashing with Edge on several occasions including a classic steel cage bout at the 2005 Unforgiven which saw Hardy defeat Edge following a daring legdrop from the top of the cage, Hardy and Edge would meet one more time in a ladder match at the Raw Homecoming in October 2005. The battle would result in the two bitter rivals' careers going in quite different directions. After taking Edge to the limit and nearing an end, Lita interjected herself in the match costing Matt not only the match but his spot on the Raw roster. Source: WWE.com

This week Between The Ropes host Brian Fritz was able to talk with WWE Superstar Matt Hardy about his boxing match with Evander Holyfield, the direction of his singles career, and much more in an interview posted exclusively on BetweenTheRopes.com

The interview started with some discussion of Matt's boxing match against Evander Holyfield. Matt discussed how he wound up in the fight and said that it was "the most intimidating situation he's been in."

Regarding the series of challenges that he and MVP have done before their match at Summerslam Matt joke that he would like a horseshoes showdown against MVP. He then said "come hell or high water I'm going to leave (Summerslam) with the U.S. Title."

The discussion then turned to how Matt see the direction of his career. "I feel like I'm at a great place. Smackdown has really been plagued by injuries over the course of the summer and I feel like it has given me an opportunity to step up. Almost every week I've been in a 20 minute match, and while I am working against MVP a lot of people have perceived me as the MVP of Smackdown recently…I'm excited to have that chance and have tried to make the most of it."

Asked about the great reaction that he and his brother Jeff get from the fans Matt said "I think the people respect us. Wrestling fans are really loyal, they remember all the ladder matches, table matches, the TLC matches, and all the things we've put our bodies through. We've given them everything from our bodies and souls to entertain them and they remember that and respect that." Matt also said he is able to connect with the fans since he a blue collar kind of guy that has had to work to get where he is.

On whether he would have liked to continue tagging with his brother as he had earlier in the year Matt said he would "rather continue down the singles path. As a tag team we've been seven time world tag team champs, we've been in every type of tag match you can do, and it's always something I'll want to come back to, but we've done it all there. As a singles competitor I haven't done it all and that's what I want to do.

Looking back at the Edge and Lita situation from a couple of years ago Matt said that he is "way past that." He said that it was a tough situation losing a relationship, a friend, and a job, but he didn't let it hang him up and he doesn't harbor any resentment toward anyone. Matt also admitted that he was "very close" to not returning to the WWE, but that in the end things turned out well.

The interview concluded with Matt being asked about his thoughts on the current tag team division. "It's tough, just because tag team wrestling isn't something that is a priority in the WWE. One thing that I tell the guys they should…do is for each member to find their own identity…They should really try and single out personality traits within the persona and still have something for the team." Matt also concluded that "a lot of the guys are newer and don't have a lot of experience, so they're learning on the job and that's what I think slows a lot of the newer tag teams down."

Future Plans For Matt & Jeff Hardy Revealed

Right now the plan is to move the Hardys back to singles. Their run as a tag team was only supposed to be a one-time deal; however since they went over so well WWE decided to give them a few more matches. At one point they almost decided not to have them challenge Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch at last night’s Vengeance pay-per-view.

The working idea backstage is to have Matt Hardy get a big singles push on SmackDown as a babyface who loses all the time but stays over. They then want Jeff to develop a prankster type personality backstage which could be used to integrate him into the Jackass angle planned for SummerSlam.

Hardy's hell week

Looking back at the last seven days, it’s safe to say that this might have been one of the worst weeks of Matt Hardy’s in-ring career.

One week ago, Matt and brother Jeff survived a brutal Ladder Match against The World’s Greatest Tag Team at One Night Stand…and that was the easy part. Because come the next night on Raw, The Hardys ran into a delusional, maniacal Mr. McMahon, and that’s when the trouble began.

“For the longest time, I’ve thought Mr. McMahon was crazy…but now, I know he’s clinically insane,” Matt said about the Chairman’s Raw antics.

Those antics? Putting The Hardys, who were banged up and possibly not even able to compete, into a match with Cade & Murdoch for the World Tag Team Championship. Matt & Jeff battled valiantly as they always do, but their two-month reign as champions came to an end courtesy of their Southern challengers. As if that wasn’t bad enough, to add insult to injury, Cade & Murdoch attacked The Hardys with the gold after the match, proving their “new attitude was a ruse.”

Thanks to Mr. McMahon, Matt Hardy found himself down for the count twice in one week.

But Matt’s week only got worse, as he ran afoul of the Chairman once again on SmackDown. Already scheduled to face WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, Matt further angered Mr. McMahon in trying to explain that Ashley spilling coffee all over him was an accident. In the end, Matt still had the match, and Ashley was suspended indefinitely.

Again, like he always does, Matt battled valiantly, but he still came up on the short end of the stick. Matt’s mantra is that he will never die, but after spending a week in the Chairman’s crosshairs, he might feel like he’s being hunted extra hard.

“I don’t know what the heck is going on,” Matt remarked. “It really sucked Monday when Jeff & I were forced to defend the World Tag Team Championship when we weren’t in any condition to. Then, come SmackDown, I had to wrestle the WWE Tag Team Champions 2-on-1. Deuce & Domino aren’t just two regular guys, and it was a fight for my life in there, just trying to survive.”

Of course, being the virtuous Superstar that he is, Hardy survived his hell week, even if following the boss’ orders was a trying ordeal.

“Yeah, it sucked,” Hardy lamented. “But hey, what can you do? He’s the boss and that’s what he wanted.”

As he uttered that quote, an understandably puzzled and frustrated Hardy then turned the onus back on the Chairman.

“He has officially lost it,” Matt remarked. “Maybe there’s something going on that he needs to be treated for. I don’t know, but knowing that he’s still running the company, that’s scary.”

Matt will be at Monday’s WWE Draft, which will take place on Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night, and he had one final remark for the Chairman about that.

“I certainly don’t appreciate the way I’ve been treated over the last week,” Matt said. “But hey, as I always say, I will not die. I will survive.”

The QUEST to be the BEST begins now! Plus an article & a contest!

Hi! Matthew Moore Hardy is hanging at the house and feelin' and smellin' like a million bucks! Two million bucks, actually, LOL! I just got home from the road on Wednesday evening, finishing up my six days a week schedule. As the boys in the WWE dressing room say--I'm the hardest working man in the business today, the "Workhorse" Matt Hardy. After taking a Wednesday evening nap, I dined on an awesome Bonefish meal, had a great workout, did a little shopping, picked up a delicious Cheeseburger at the Truck Stop for the road, burned my trash in my new bonfire hole, played with Lucas while doing so, and I am now writing a quick blog (as well as a brutal run-on sentence, ha!). It's been a nice day--mainly because I flushed my system of that little bit of negativity and frustration I've had lurking the last couple of weeks. The Matt Hardy that you know and love is up and running again on all cylinders! Which brings me to the QUEST to be the BEST!

As of today, Thursday, May 17th, 2007, I am on a QUEST to be the BEST. What I mean when I say that is very simple--I'm on a journey to be the very best there is in the professional wrestling/sports entertainment business. I feel like every week I'm one of the most consistent and entertaining performers in the WWE. And I'm only gonna get better. As long as God is with me and I don't suffer any serious injuries. There was a ton of feedback from my first "Will Not Die-aries", stemming from my goal of winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Some people believe in me, some don't... story of my life. I believe in me, and alot of good people do, and that's all that matters. I'm fully focusing towards becoming the man on Smackdown. Whether I win, lose, or draw, I wanna be the star of the show, the best match every night. And ultimately, I wanna be the World Champion. I have World Tag Team Title commitments on Raw now, but I'm staying strictly a singles act on Smackdown. I've let the powers that be know that I want big time, main event matches every week. I'm ready to shatter through the glass ceiling and never come back. So it starts now for me--the QUEST to be the BEST!

Something that I F*CKING HATE...

...is when someone looks me directly in the eyes and tells me a lie. That's happened to me a couple times this week from a couple different people. There's nothing more cowardly and childish than lying to someone because you're afraid to tell the truth. Please, find the strength to tell the truth. Find the heart to tell the truth. Honesty is the best policy, always. Tell the truth, even if you don't want to and who you're telling doesn't wanna hear it. If you're an adult, be an adult.

Matt Hardy Can Be World Champion!

With Edge's recent move to SmackDown and subsequent World Heavyweight Championship victory, many people both inside and out of the WWE have speculated if Matt Hardy, Edge's former friend turned rival, will get a title opportunity, which if it did happen, I believe would be his first ever. Many people in the IWC particularly, have said that he could have a brief feud with Edge resulting in one WWE pay-per-view match, but no way in hell will he ever be a world champion. Well I am here to disagree. Matt Hardy can be World champion, and here's why.

As far as I am concerned, to be qualified to hold a World Championship, particularly in WWE you need several qualifications. One of the most important things is a moveset. I'm not saying you have to be as gifted as a Bret Hart or a Kurt Angle, but you need a set of moves that everybody recognises, looks effective and gets popped. Batista has the Spear, the powerslam, the spinebuster and the Batista Bomb amongst others. John Cena has the spin-out powerbomb, the Five Knuckle Shuffle, the Throwback, the FU and the STFU. Vince McMahon has jack shit, but he's an exception because he's now Dr. Vince McMahon. Matt Hardy has a recognisable moveset. Hardy has the Side Effect, a move which is not unlike the Rock Bottom, but swankier. He has the familiar second rope leg drop which always looks cool. He has the corner clothesline/bulldog combo which although isn't going to be putting anybody away any time soon is a great transition move and can be use to start building a comeback. Then of course there is his finisher, the Twist of Fate. This is a finisher which has a familiar name, looks good and is damn effective as it works the head, face, neck and sternum, much like an RKO.

Another important factor is popularity and the ability to shift merchandise. There is no-one out there who can dispute the Matt Hardy has been one of the most popular superstars in the WWE for the past two years since he returned in 2005. He out-pops most of his co-workers on SmackDown including the likes of Chris Benoit and Kane. On occasion, Matt Hardy has out-popped former ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley who, as we all know, is the latest to get the superman push. Matt, as part of the Hardys has always been able to sell some merch which may be the sole reason John Cena was first crowned WWE Champion. Hardy can take advantage of his tag team status and a main event push would surely result in him shifting more of his own merchandise. Of course a renewed feud with the Rated R Superstar would only increase his popularity even more because Edge is undoubtedly the best heel currently in the WWE, maybe even the entire wrestling world.

So far we have established Matt Hardy is popular and owns a good enough moveset to be a World champion. Many of the great champions of the past have been awesome sellers. Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and even John Cena to name a few, are all tremendous sellers and that helps them and their opponents. That's why matches between combinations of those guys have nearly always resulted in tremendous matches. I think Matt Hardy is one of the best sellers on the current WWE roster, especially when selling a particular limb such as an arm or a leg. Case in point, let me take you back to February and a match between Matt Hardy and Joey Mercury. Mercury had been working the arm the entire match and Hardy had been selling it brilliantly as always. When Hardy made his comeback, he whipped Joey into the corner and was going for his clothesline/bulldog combination move. Now normally when Matt does this, he switches arms – hits the clothesline with the right and then the bulldog with the left. Not this time. To sell the arm, instead of switching arms, he repositioned his body so he could do both the clothesline and the bulldog with the same arm. How many people would think of doing that? I was going to send that one in to the guys over at Hidden Highlights but forgot. I do recall a particular HH from the same match about Hardy doing the Twist of Fate with one arm as well, but mine was better. Still, it's another example of how good Matt Hardy is.

Another important factor in mediocre superstars becoming world champions is feuds. Hardy has had several tremendous feuds over the years in tag teams, but not so many as a singles competitor. He had the brief run against Kane which of course resulted in Kane marrying Lita, but that was not nearly memorable enough. The one that really stands out is his feud with Edge in 2005.Not only did this produce great matches, but it had a real sense of drama because it was real. That's what makes this feud different from just about any other feud in recent memory. And because Edge is now the champion a rekindled feud would be huge for Hardy and give him the extra step he needs to be a legit champion.

The final critical talent needed is the charisma. Matt Hardy is by no stretch of the imagination a great talker, but he is good. Take a look at when he was a heel and going through the Mattitude thing. There were some good promos in there. And again with the Edge feud – some really intense promos there, too. And let's face it, Batista and Bobby Lashley were champions for a long time, and Matt Hardy is miles better than both of those guys.

Let's face it, Matt Hardy has all the tools needed to be World champion, and with Batista out of favour, Kennedy and Taker on the shelf, Matt Hardy is going to get pushed and I'm making the prediction now. Matt Hardy will win the World Heavyweight Championship this year.
