Right. This movie was out in 2006. Sequel out in 2008. But I'm only seeing it now. Now as in I just closed the player five minutes ago. And I only got to watch it because a friend was kind enough to give it to me as a present.

I'm slow and lazy. Sue me.

The version my friend acquired for me was also the English dub. So, some brief comments on that.

1. Dubs are funny.
2. FUNNY.
3. This is obviously a Tsukamoto film.
4. Tsukamoto has a choking fetish. (See also, "Vital")
5. Tsukamoto has an obsession with death. (See also, "Vital")
6. And with self mutilation.
7. And with playing the antagonist (or having a cameo) in all his films.
8. And may have a secret fear of bicycles (yes, bicycles).
9. hitomi may be cute, but her eyelashes are out of control.
10. Life's hard for any character played by Masanobu Ando.
11. This movie could have benefited from more Ryuhei Matsuda. (Naked, under a cloak?)
12. The above goes for all movies, actually.
13. Will psychox ever get around to seeing the sequel? Maybe. Will it be a dub? Let's hope not. I mean, sure, voice actors gotta find work (they do their best, I'm sure), and Matsuda's got a voice that sounds like he's been chain-smoking since he was seven, but that's the voice I've gotten used to hearing come out of his mouth. The overtly youngish-sounding American English substitute just won't do. Though, it's good for a hardcore LOL at times ("Just hearing you talk, I can feel my will to live weakening!"), even if I'm not sure if that effect was intentional or not.
14. Will psychox go and see the new "Transformers" movie? Depends. Is Ryuhei Matsuda in it?

Labor exploitation film gave Matsuda vigor

Acting in the film ‘‘Kanikosen’’ (Crab-Canning Boat) about a fight against labor exploitation gave up-and-coming actor Ryuhei Matsuda vigor, he said during a recent promotional event. ‘‘That film made me emotional and made me feel I could do anything,’’ the 25-year-old said during the event also joined by other actors including Hidetoshi Nishijima and the director, who goes by the name Sabu.

Matsuda plays the role of a laborer on a crab cannery boat that incites other workers aboard to rise up against exploitation in the film inspired by the novel of the same name released in 1929 by writer Takiji Kobayashi. Matsuda also expressed sentiment that labor-related problems of today could be more serious than those at the time Kobayashi released the book depicting the hardship of crab-canning workers on a boat in the North Sea. ‘‘I think it might be possible that today’s laborers are suffering greater pain as it is hard for them to find a clear enemy to beat’’ in a complicated economy-led society, unlike the workers in Kobayashi’s novel, Matsuda said.

Actor Ryuhei Matsuda (25) and half-Russian model Lina Ohta (21) are now married. Matsuda's agency announced the news on Tuesday, revealing that the couple registered their marriage on January 11, Ohta's birthday. Ohta is already pregnant.
