This made my day/night a million times better.

Melutomo [from the heart] Congratulations 01/08

Translation
People grow up.

Your sense of values, ideologies,

Therefore there are many things that change.

But in the process of that change

If you discover something that doesn't change

That is not change but is evolution

And I think that is the real meaning of growing up.

Congratulations, adults.

/Miyavi

※Sorry Comiyavi who aren't adults.

*~Cultural Note~*
Around New Years, there is a big festival for people (mostly young women) who are now 20 years old. It is their "coming of age day" so it's a big celebration of becoming an adult, growing up, and changing. Brought to you by your thoughtful hero, Miyavi.

wow I'm so slow, I just realised that's why 20 is the legal age to club/drink and smoke in Japan... I thought it was really odd, as most places it's either 18 or 21 ^^;; I guess it's the transition from teen-hood to uh, non-teen hood

yeah I think that makes more sense anyway, most 18-year-olds I know are very much still in an adolescent stage. I know I was.

But the cool thing about Japan's legal drinking age was that I had just turned 20 when I went to Japan, so I could drink legally there, and when I cam back it was only about two months before I turned 21 and could legally drink here too!

I'm by no means a big drinker but still - lucky meeee

well it's not like getting older is going to make you someone else. you are always going to be you, the only difference is that you have learned more and can handle more things and handle them better than before because you've experience more.

but you're still going to be you! so "older" isn't really that big a deal.

and hey, I'm older than 19 XD a lot of people here are older than that. but I still do a lot of things and have the same kind of tastes as I did back then, I just don't throw emo fits about my mom not understanding me (ok that was like 13 years old XD) , and I can handle stress better and blah blah blah.

It's nice than Miyavi was thinking of all those people today, too. :)

Homg, thank you for the translation!! I think what he says is correct, sometimes you say things like "I'm never gonna change" when you're young about some things, but then you get older and you realise it's for the better, more evolution than anything.

I don't believe in change Miyavi.
I believe in showing a different side of yourself as you learn new things, but you never change. You are who you are and will always be.
It's not evolution, it's Maturity in the making ;P

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]miyabina_hime
2007-01-08 11:13 pm UTC (link)
yeah! 成長 also means maturity. That comment of your's reminded me of a book I read that I admire very much. Siddhartha, have you heard of it?

I believe that the you of the past, the you now, and the you in the future is all the same person. Just like a flowing river. It appears to be changing and moving but in fact, is it everywhere all at the same time, regardless of time - in the ocean, in the sky, as rain, in the mountains, in the streams, in the river itself, in the delta, and in the bay flowing back into the ocean and into the system. All of that is happening simultaneously. That is why you don't really FEEL that much different. You are who you are, but you learn and mature and show that as you simply exist.

haha, for a slight second I thought of checking the kanji with Rikai to see if it in fact leaned toward the word maturity xP but I didn't and instead decided to see if you'd say anything, because for sure you'd point it out ;D lol

I've heard the title, but never looked any further into it. Is it semi-popular? I think it's been mentioned to me well over one time o__o

Oh yeah, this quarter I've taken up Japanese again, Level 005. But the classes before used Genki - which I didn't, so I feel like I don't belong in there e__e everyone seems so Used to speaking frequently D; /fails/

[info]miyabina_hime
2007-01-09 04:22 am UTC (link)
That happened to me before - going into a class that was used to using Genki or Nakama. I personally hate those books anyway, I've heard bad things about them. I happen to be very proud of the way I was taught because it's very unique. My professor taught with various books, and studied about language learning strategies, and wrote his own textbooks based on his own idea of teaching languages. I have done a little studying on LLS as well, and I think my professor did an excellent job.

So just because those Genkites seem so great, everything happens for a reason, maybe the way you learned was better, or maybe adjusting to a better method of learning is what you need. Either way, I wish you the best of luck!!

Last night, while doing hw, I had this urge to learn all the vocabulary kanji Right Then, but she didn't even assign hw today or kanji excercises D:
Even though I'm not certain as to what my method is, I do like it and I'm sure I won't switch it. Maybe just incorporate what I learn.
Besides, it doesn't feel like I'm learning a new strategy or anything. . just, it's an hour class compared to a 3hr one. Things go faster, less time to think. You have to do that on you own.. like self study! :D

I'll check out that book too, in time. haha

Oh woops. And Siddhartha is a pretty famous book, I think. It's a small novel, so you could eat it up really quickly. Many classes use the book in their curriculum, though, so maybe that's where you've heard of it.

indeed, he's very thoughtful and sweet ^.^ though i'm not turning 20, but 19! don't wanna grow up =X.x= loll
i find it "scary" to change, i mean, at some moment, i think that it would be great if i was like this forever. but each day, we change a bit, and it's more of an evolution like miyavi said. we don't really notice the change. And when we look back, we think of how immature or weird we were.
It would be really horrible, for the present me, if in the future i don't like miyavi anymore! i hope that wouldn't happen!

miyavis comment... so true. and now I feel very old around here :) everyone changes, you're always in a constant state of evolution. Even though you are always who you are, every second of every day, in 5 minutes from now you would have evolved a little and who you are always goes with that. Don't be afraid of changing, think of it as adding more pieces to the puzzle.. It's really sad when you meet people you haven't seen in awhile.. and their "puzzle" is still the same. hmm.. sorry for the long rant...
