In case anyone was curious about the song Vamp-sama had as his ringtone in the most recent episode of Astro Fighter Sunred, here's a youtube video of it. It's sung by a group originally meant as a joke group, but they've had multiple top-ten singles (oh, Japan...)
Here's some info on the group at Wikipedia.

11:38 am - Votaku Submisson and Voting rules (Fall 2009)
|

belindabird
|
These rules are current as of Summer 2009. Any changes will be amended as is seen fit.
Submission Guidelines:
1. Series unlicensed in the US must be entirely available in fansub form by the time you submit them. 2. Series licensed in the US must be entirely available on DVD by the time you submit them
In either case, if you submit a show, you must own or have available all the episodes in case it gets voted in. There's no guarantee that someone else will have them or be willing to buy them for you.
3. If a series has been shown on basic cable (Cartoon Network or Sci-Fi/SyFy), it is not eligible for MAS.
If you aren't sure if it's been on US TV or not, the Anime News Network Encyclopedia will usually indicate that.
4. Preshowings should be in the 11-14 episodes range, or should end well at that point. 5. Mainshowings should be in the 22-26 episodes range, or should end well at that point.
If we vote to show a longer series that has a decent cut off point, there is no guarantee that we'll watch the rest of it the following semester. The second half needs to be voted in just like anything else. Any weird episode lengths or special circumstances can be discussed with the admin.
6. If a series has been shown in the past three years, it is not eligible. If it is older than that, it may be resubmitted. See this page if you're not sure how long ago MAS may have viewed a show.
7. Outright hentai is not allowed. Use your best judgment as to whether you think a show would be appropriate to watch in a large, semi-public group or not. If you're not sure, contact the admin and they will discuss it with you and/or review it for appropriateness.
8. Be sure to describe your submisson well! The more detailed you are, the more voters can make an informed decision. Links to reviews and clips are always welcome. Remember that you need to use html tags to format paragraphs, though. You can find info on how to do that here (refer to the table about "text formatting tags").
Voting Guidelines
1. Voting occurs after submissions are closed and usually happens for about a week. In a normal semester, voters will be allowed to vote on 1 preshowing-length series and 3 main showings. However, if there are a disproportionately large number of preshowing submissions, or multiple preshowings are known beforehand to be popular, the admin may use their discrection to open up a power-hour option.
2. The "power-hour" is a block consisting of two preshowing-length series, in addition to the 6:30-7:00 preshowing. If the option is available, the voters can check a "power-hour" box on votaku, and then select 3 preshowing-length shows and 2 main showings. This option is available on a semester-by-semester basis.
3. After voters enter their email address in Votaku and make their selections and submit, they'll be sent an email to the address that they provided (which needs to match the email address they put on their membership form!). In order for the votes to count, THE LINK IN THE EMAIL MUST BE CLICKED. Someone seems to miss this every time, but it's very important. Just remember to check your spam filter if you don't seem to be getting your Votaku emails.
4. You can alter your votes as many times as you want before voting is closed, but you must remember to click the link in your email or the vote count will not be updated.

Comment or post your own, guys! If you were a Duelist, how would you operate? How would you relate to the other duelists (show canon and the other posters)?
Reason: I think I'd be a Black Rose duelist, a lot like Wakaba. I very much share her fears of fading into the crowd, or falling behind. I think I used to be one of the people Akio would describe as shining brighter than others, and now I'm like....an average student with no life. I'm, like Wakaba, normally very friendly, happy and approachable, so like Wakaba, if I ever really set loose the jealousy and bitterness I sit on, I think I'd be scary as hell. </emo> Uniform/Weapon: I love the Black Rose uniforms. Just love em. As far as a weapon....I don't know, I've always been best with a rocket launcher in Halo, but I'm not sure how useful that's gonna be for knockin' a rose off somebody. I'd need something berserker-friendly, but still relatively agile. Probably a straight-up longsword would be best. Custom hilt, natch. Fighting Style: Considering I'd be doing the Black Rose thing, I wouldn't really be using a formal style, as I'm about as untrained as they come. A Black Rose duelist draws on their anger and their fear to fuel them, to give them speed and to give them strength. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I find strength. Through strength, I find power. Through power, I find victory, and through victory I will break my chains. The Force shall set me free. - The Code of the Sith Rose Bride and I: We'd probably sit around the house all day..."What do you want to do?" "Whatever you would like, Carveth-sama." "No, seriously, I don't know, what do you want to do?" I'd get along pretty good with Chu-Chu, though. Seitokai and I: Miki and I would probably get along pretty good, as we're both scholarly loner types. I'd quickly dismiss Touga and Saionji as "fuckin' fratboys". Juri, as much as I love her, as a duelist in the Ohtori scene I wouldn't see her vulnerable side, and I'd probably just avoid her. Like, I'd still squee over her internally, but I'd make sure I was at a safe distance. I doubt I'd have any idea who Shiori was, other than "hey, wasn't she in my history class one of these past years?" Hell, Nanami'd probably hate me; I had no idea who the popular people were in high school, nor did I care. That said, I wouldn't hate her, much for the same reason; I'd be too removed from things to be biased one way or another. Tsuwabuki, if anything, I'd give him a few words of encouragement; I think I identify with him a bit. Mikage....I admit, if I was going to try to side up to one of the bigger players, he'd be at the top of the list. Although I'm sure a ride in Akio's car might rearrange my attitudes as well. Me? Victor?: No, I can't fight. I'd suck. I'd just need to get all the anger out of my system. I'd be little more than fodder for the real predators.

If you live in the Twin Cities area and are interested in learning more about the Japanese tea ceremony or Japanese culture in general, my tea ceremony class at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus is going to be giving a tea ceremony demonstration on Friday, March 28th, 2008 from 4:30-6:30. Each of the four ceremonies performed will be about a half-hour long, with the middle two performed by students in the class and the first and last performed by a tea master, WATANABE Fumio-sensei, from Japan. Tea and sweets will be served, and admission is free.
I have provided links to the flyer, directions, and a .zip contiaining both. Please feel free to download and forward these, direct-link others to them, or simply direct-link this post.

I'm writing to let everyone know that my tea ceremony class at the U is looking for volunteers to help with a tea ceremony demonstration (making tea, passing out tea and sweets, etc.) on Tuesday, March 20th from 5 to 7 pm. A tea master from Japan will be present to perform the ceremony, and we are expecting 50-100 guests. No experience is needed, but if you would like to help out please come to our practice session for approximately a half hour between 10 am and noon tomorrow (Wednesday, March 7th) in Nolte 229 so we can show you what you will be doing. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Also, please pass this on to any friends who you think may be interested.

The fall t-shirt vote is ready over at votaku. I'm not going to talk about my preferences, but I do want to ask this: is it just me, or does Dian's shirt remind anyone of Mechazawa?
New fall showings: 6:30-7:00 - Mezzo DSA 1 7:00-8:00 - Soukyuu no Fafner 1-2 8:00-9:00 - Honey and Clover 1-2 9:00-10:00 - School Rumble 1-2

With the fall 2006 showings decided in their entirety (delayed only because of a technical issue), here are the lucky showings:
6:30-7:00 - Paradise Kiss 7:00-8:00 - Soukyuu no Fafner 8:00-9:00 - Honey and Clover 9:00-10:00 - School Rumble
The final schedule will depend on our ability to obtain permissions and the licensing status of the currently fan subbed anime. We'll post ASAP should there be such a change.
Have a great break, and remember the first meeting of summer club is June 15th!

Emergency!
Mic is Missing!
If not found, our weekly meeting room will be taken away!!
If you were at the MAS Halloween party last Friday, please check your bags, costumes, coats, etc. for a missing wireless microphone that belongs in the room (small black box with a cord that attaches to a mic you can clip to your shirt). It was last seen during the raffle and was no longer in the room on Monday morning. Because this is the second time this has happened with MAS, if we don't report that we have located the mic and are returning it by tomorrow (November 1st) we will lose our room reservation in Moos 2-520 for the rest of the semester amongst other Very Bad Things.
Meaning no Moos. No MAStop. And in the worst case scenario, possibly no club for the rest of the semester.
Also, what follows is the class schedule for room 2-650, if ANY of you are free and can check out the room when there's not class in it, we would REALLY appreciate it.
10:10-12:05 Class 1:25-2:15 Class 2:30-3:20 Class 4:15-5:30 Class 6:00-7:15 Class
If you have the mic or know if it's last known whereabouts, please contact Jo by email (revolutionaryjo@gmail.com), IM (jiazhen01 on AIM) or flatout call her to let her know immediately (612-518-5737).
