[Jul. 17th, 2008|03:25 pm] |
i am having one of those days.
** afraid of missing the bus, i trotted down to the bus stop. i tied my shoes. i applied some lip balm. i pulled out a stick of gum. suddenly i heard, "good morning." there was a woman standing about seven feet away. i didn't see her. she was giving my the stink-eye for not speaking, like, "these rude young people today." guess what, lady? i'm from brooklyn - BKNY - that's new york, bitch, where we have too much to do than speak to everyone we see. that's how you get yourself snatched up and raped. fuck southern hospitality (unless it's luda).
** seriously, sometimes being the only girl in the workplace gets old. if i hear ONE MORE CONVERSATION ABOUT THE NEW BATMAN MOVIE, i'm gonna superman dat ho. YYOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU!
** i honestly don't know what has come over me today.

| Grammar Snob Moment Of The Day |
[Jul. 11th, 2008|04:28 pm] |
| [ | Current Location |
| | 30329 | ] | And this isn't even English grammar- it's Latin, which means it's extra-snobby...
On my way back from lunch and shopping with neuroxin (aka "Jack" *giggle*), I saw a license plate frame which read "St. Mary's Alumnae", which got me thinking about one of my biggest pet peeves:
Many people who graduate college (including myself) adorn their vehicles with license plate frames, bumper stickers, etc., which indicate some college or university and the word "alumni". "Alumni" is actually plural- the word is "alumnus" for males and "alumna" for females. "Alumni" indicates that all persons riding in the vehicle (of either gender) are graduates of said college or university (if both males and females are involved, the masculine plural is used). The word "alumnae" (as mentioned above) indicates all females riding in the vehicle are graduates of said college or university. I'm probably the only person who has ever noticed this, but I do think it's ironic that so many college graduates are riding around with grammatical errors on the rear of their vehicles.
On an unrelated note, neuroxin is not in my spell checker, so LJ suggests the word "Xeroxing". |
