So. This thing happened recently. All about asking the presidential candidates what they think about, y'know, Jesus and stuff.
(Including questions like "The Bible says that integrity and love are the basis for leadership" and "You've made no doubt about your faith in Jesus Christ; What does that mean to you?" To draw from the first couple pages of the transcript.)
And the liberal blogs think Obama shouldn't have done it, because evangelicals are McCain's base, donchaknow. Or maybe he should have, to prove that Democrats Are Religious Too.
Aren't we all missing something here? Some larger issue beyond Who Loves Baby Jesus Most?
Oh, yeah.
(Thanks, Jason.)

today I got flowers from one of the managers at work bc I helped her on friday with getting an appointment with chiropractor. It was sort of an emergency and she was desperate for some relief to her back pain. And it all worked out pretty well.
So this morning, Brit gave me these as a thank you:

Luckily I didn't get too teary. But it was like the right thing at the right moment to help me get through the morning.
I know it seems stupid to some people that I'm so upset over someone I've never even met. I spent the better part of the last 15 summers with DMB and the friends I've made through seeing them. DMB is still a huge part of my life. It makes me sad that I'll never see DMB as they are meant to be--5 friends jamming. It'll be 4 friends missing the one now.
I heard "you were the first person I thought of...I hope you're okay...I know they mean so much to you..." throughout the day from awesome friends--sure some think I'm insane to follow this band from coast to coast, but hey--everybody's got there something, right?
I was going to do a post about how this time, last year, April and I were heading towards Alpine. Which was the last time I saw the band live. I'd really give anything to be able see the 5 of them one more time.
I was really tired this morning with my original post. What I really meant is that following a band isn't always about the band member you fancy the most. It's the sum of it's parts. I'm biased of course, but you can't show me a band better suited for each than this one. They've been together so long--longer than most marriages these days. And they still manage to show up every night and play their hearts and souls out for 3+ hours. DMB is missing a part now. Sure, they could move on with someone else, but it won't be the same. That spot on stage for Roi will always make me feel sad when I don't see him there. Every time I hear their songs and they get to the horn section, I'll feel sad that they've lost that very talented musician. Will whoever replace him throw in "if I only had a brain" or some other quirky melody? Maybe, but Roi was so stoic on stage that to hear those moments was incredible. and they are my favorite moments. Along with when he would sing....really unexpected.
Sure time heals things, but there's always going to be something missing from the DMB world. Something you can never replace. I want DMB to carry on---keep going until they just can't anymore.
Keep Roi spirit & memory alive. I Know for sure that the fans will.
I listened to Before These Crowded Streets tonight...it somehow made me feel better. Sure, I cried so much that my eyes hurt, but I needed to. And I'm sure every time I hear a DMB song from now until the end of time I'm going to cry. And that's okay.
Dave Matthews said last night that it's easier to leave than be left. And it's so true. I just wish the DMB world could have more time with Roi.
Rest in Peace, Roi. We miss you.

First, a random food meme from
pom:
1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating. (Go to the original post for Wikipedia links if you don't know what something is.)
4) Italicize ones you haven’t eaten but want to try.
5) Leave the ones you haven’t tried, but are indifferent about.
( ... )
46/100... not bad.
Did I mention on here that I had deer meat the other day? It's... strange. Kind of a mix between lamb and liver (texture wise). Weird thing to eat though... I just kept picturing Bambi :(
Real life has been strange lately. Went out with my aunt and cousin the other day - it's disorienting to notice just how fast my cousin's growing up. She's in a terrible Miley-Cyrus/Hannah Montana phase right now. Sigh. We're all waiting with baited breath for her to move on (I wonder if this was how my parents felt during my 10-year-old BSB phase? I can't even imagine how many times I forced them to listen to this. You don't even need to ask, of course I knew all the dance moves)
Then went out with Jo, Karla and a few other friends yesterday to see The Notebook under the stars at the Yonge/Dundas square (apparently, Ryan and Rachel are in town and being all lovey-dovey. They were spotted at a restaurant just a few blocks away that same night! I wonder if they knew the movie was playing? How bizarre would that be if they didn't know and just came across themselves on screen in the middle of the street?). Twas a nice night. Good movie, even though it's very very cheesy at parts.
Friday is a poker night at Karla's, Saturday is Michelle's birthday party, next Monday I'm sleeping over at my cousin's (she's mastered the puppy dog eyes and I'm powerless to say no), next Wednesday is the Final Fantasy concert, then a play on Thursday, then a family dinner that weekend. Sigh. Things are busy and yet... I'm still restless.
Okay, that's it for now. Here's a song I've been obsessing over lately.
P.S. Is there any way to filter your friends page? As in, group your communities into 3 or 4 different friends pages - e.g. one with just your friends, another with just icon-communities, another with just sharing comms? I've got so many things I like keeping up with, but don't enjoy keeping up with every day.

Sitting still as stone watching - watching
People walking by you wondering why
No one ever stops to talk or thinks about it – if they ever did
What if God shuffled by?
One day we might see
Doing not a thing
Breathing just to breathe
We might find some reason
But rushing around seems what’s wrong with the world
Don’t lose the dreams inside your head
They’ll only be there til you’re dead
Dream
Lying on the roof counting
The stars that fill the sky I wonder if
Someone in the heavens looking back down on me – I’ll never know
So much space to believe
Funny when you’re small
The moon follows the car
There’s no one but you see
Hey, the moon is chasing me
I worried if I looked away she’d be gone
Don’t lose the dreams inside your head
They’ll only be there til you’re dead
Dream
Walking through the wood
No cares in the world
The world has come to play
She’s all mine just for a day
There’s not a moment to lose in the game
Don’t let the troubles in your head
Steal too much time you’ll soon be dead
So play
All fall down
It won’t be so long now
Out of the darkness comes light like a flash
You think you can you think you can
Sometimes that is the problem
Dream little darling dream
Spinning on the wind
The leaf fell from the limb
But everyday should be a good day to die
Oh all fall down
It won’t be too long now
Every fire dies
I find it hard to explain how I got here
I think I can I think I can
Then again I will falter
Dream little darling dream
Spinning on the wind
The leaf fell from the limb

A quick internet stop to say that I've put together my tentative ideal panel schedule for Dragon*Con. Some of these are more important than others, obviously. I didn't include the Yule Ball but I will probably drop in. The starred ones are essentials.
( Schedule )
Anyone else who's going, please comment if you plan on attending any of these! Especially
45eugenia, you need to look at the schedule to see if there's anything you want to go to that I haven't listed (or anything I want to go to that you don't want to), and to see if there are conflicts and which would be the best day (or days) to rock the costumes. I'm all anxious! Obviously free times are for posing in costume, dealers room, walk of fame, eating, me collapsing from being fat, etc.
Also, I don't think I mentioned that my dad had his surgery pushed back because they wanted him to see a cardiologist first. He has a stress test scheduled for Monday morning. I'm not sure when the surgery will be. Hopefully not until after I'm back from the convention.

In other news, I spotted a post at
scans_daily, showing a scene from a Vampirella comic. I checked IMDB, because I thought I remembered hearing about a movie version, and I was right. I’m not interested in that comic at all, but for those that were interested, apparently Roger Daltrey (Fitz from Highlander) was in it as someone named Vlad. I wasn’t interested in tracking it down, until I read this post on the IMDB message boards. For those that aren’t registered and can’t read it, it says this:
“The Who's Roger Daltrey, endlessly running down corridors whilst holding open his ridiculous red-lined cape and turning around now and again to hiss like a cat, before turning into a bat which looks very much like someone has stuck a bin bag on a stick and is waving it around in front of the screen.
Brilliant.”
I really want to see that scene. *laughs*

1. So I went to see The Dark Knight on Sunday evening, for my defense, it's only been out since Wednesday in France. OMG, it was amaaaaaaaaazing. I expected a lot and I wasn't disappointed. I don't even have anything to say, just that it was great and that I would love to see it again. Way better than Batman Begins and definitely better than the old ones, I love the realism they went for. ( spoilers? )
By the way, I think I saw lots of DK parody on the web but I never watched it because I didn't want to be spoiled, would any of you wonderful people had some links where I could see the best of them?
2. Baaaaaaaaaad news now: Fox has announced a bid to block the release of Warner Bros.' anticipated adaptation of Watchmen. This info ruined my day. Seriously, what kind of studio waits for a film to be almost finished and for trailers to be shown to the public to announce that they're gonna block it for some weird story of money and rights? This is disgusting. I'm pretty sure they can't block out the film completely but still, major suckage.
3. I finished my Buffy marathon a while ago, watching every episode, listening to every commentary and it was great and then I missed my daily Whedon dose. So yesterday I started watching Firefly with the 2 hour pilot. I meant to watch it like foreeeeeeever, I think I had the first episode (not the pilot) in my harddrive and I even maybe watched it but I didn't have any subtitles so I guess I didn't understand much and deleted it. But watching the pilot was a great idea because it's awesome and I can't wait to watch the rest, Nathan Fillion is hot (DUH) and I'm loving the Space Western vibe.
Man, that was a too-geeky-for-your-own-good entry, wasn't it?

Got the e-mail last night but just got it confirmed this morning: I got hired for the info desk position I interviewed for last week! It's only six hours a week and not very much money right now, but I told him I could take on more hours once I can walk again and it sounded like that would probably work. Besides, I have no idea how much spare time I'm going to have while doing this grad student thing. The hours are slightly different than what I applied for (I have a Sunday afternoon/evening shift) but since my parents are bringing me a car this weekend that won't be a problem. (Okay, having to be there at 8am on Wednesday might be a problem. I can't drive on this foot, and even if I can I can't park on campus, so I'm just going to have to bribe
fedora_hat with coffee and cookies or something.)
But mainly I'm happy because it's something actually related to what I want to do (information services & reference) and it's relevant experience, and it's me actually causing money to flow *into* my bank account for a change. <3
