Shirtless Nick for your viewing pleasure.

This has stood as a WIP for months upon months because I've been crazy busy with school, but I'm finally done. I mean, I started this piece about a week after I got the book, and that was an ARC. Fail. XD

I confess, there's something incredibly soothing about painting a sexy shirtless guy with a sword, even if it does make me feel like a dirty old woman when I consider his age.

Really can't blame that old lady with the binoculars, I gotta say. XD

A friend's fanart

Gorgeous stuff: the summoning of Liannan.

A friend of mine drew this while I read the book out loud to her. I know that this friend would take care of my books 'cause she's borrowed books before, but NO ONE GETS TO TOUCH MY SIGNED COPY BUT ME. Yeah, I really did read her the whole book. It took about five sittings, two of which left me almost unable to speak for the next day.

We finished it a week ago or so and then I immediately went back and read out particular passages, such as "I caught you young too."

Anyway, here is the link: http://cassus-leo.deviantart.com/art/Liannan-143781780

To all UK Fish

I think Lal mentioned on her LJ that it is about time we had another meet up (:

I know many fish have Uni and such like now, so woul the xmas holidays be a good time? I would assume we would aim for London again as that is where all trains seem to go, but if we do I suspect the weather will not be in favour of another picnic. Perhaps a museum? Or... um... anyone know of anything good happening in London around christmas?

So, reply if you're interested and give dates and suggestions and we can get something organised! And it will be awesome!

Not a fighter

Hello there fellow fish!

I thought you guys may appareciate this.

I've been wanting to write some fic for the book but had no idea how old Alan was exactly. So I asked. Not only did I get Alan's age - I  got everyone's!

"Alan is nineteen. I carry on, possibly needlessly, to say that Gerald is twenty, Jamie is sixteen, Seb is sixteen-going-on-seventeen, Mae is seventeen-going-on-eighteen, and Nick is sixteen and the baby of the group. "
That ^ is the response she left to my comment. I hope you find this as joyus as I do. Okay maybe not quite so much but still.

Edit! If this shows up on your flist twice, I apologize. I accidnetialy posted it on mailmalade_fish too *blushes*

Does anyone else support this ship?

I guess it wouldn't make sense to anyone who hadn't read the first chapter of DC, but I think my new favorite ship may be Jamie/Gerald. It's something about them... The way they interact and the way Sarah writes it makes me feel strongly reminded of some of the other things she's written (*cough*harrydraco*cough*)

Just wanted to know if anyone else had picked up on that. ^^

I've been thinking

Since TDL is a "young adult" book, and I see so many of you in your pics, I was wondering....

Am I the oldest 'fish'?

I'm 43.

SRB's Seattle visit 10.12.09

As some of you know, Sarah Rees Brennan came to Seattle on Monday, October 12, on her tour with Scott Westerfeld. It was awesome.

Some fishies came to this event. That was also awesome. In fact, I'm not sure which is more awesome! There will be a second post with some more pictures of fishies. It'll be locked so no one can stalk us. Well, you can stalk me. I'd take you to court but I'd secretly be sort of flattered by the attention.

Here's the first bunch of pictures. )

Request - Delete if innappropriate

I was wondering if anyone had saved Sarah's post where she compared The Secret Garden to Jane Eyre. I've recently re-read TSC partly because of that post and would love to reflect on it again but it doesn't seem to be there anymore. This was the old link which I had saved:

http://sarahtales.livejournal.com/91112.html

but has obviously been deleted. It was called "Carried Away By Academic Fervour".

Google has this much cached:

"I read Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden at about the same time, and I was almost uncomfortably aware of how similar they were. Since the Gothic tradition ..."

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

A question for all of you!

So, Sarah's tour has concluded, and I'm one of the lucky people who got to see her and received the first chapter of Demon's Covenant!  It was lovely and awesome, as I knew it would be, and it was very exciting to see her.  (Funny thing, actually; I bussed there, and was supposed to wait 20 minutes for a transfer so I could get there 10 minutes early.  Fifteen seconds after I got off my first bus, my transfer pulled up, and I got there almost an hour before the event started, so actually got to talk to her briefly when she went up to put stuff on the table.  I heard voices and turned around and recognized her, and about fell off my chair...anyway.)

My question is this!  I know that many of us brought cameras to the events.  (I didn't take very many pictures, as I was in the front row and there was really no way for me not to seem like a creepy stalker by snapping pictures during the event, so I only have two or three.)  Would anyone here be interested in contributing to an online photo album of her tour from our point of view?

Mind you, I have absolutely no clue how this would work, I just want to know if anyone would be interested.
