And the Award Goes to.... (SDCC)
I am kinda shocked this hasn't been blogged to death yet... Actually I think Brigid is the only one to note that Old Boy by Tsuchiya Garon and Minegishi Nobuaki won the award for Best International Material from Japan at last night's Eisner Awards Ceremony.

I cannot recall so many manga titles nominated before at one of these. I also cannot remember seeing so many manga titles so late in the event. Project X and MONSTER were nominated in the final four awards given along side some really big hitters. Definitely sad only one title took home a silver globe but it was great to see these titles recognized in some way... I guess.

Would I say Old Boy is the best manga title in English... It's in my top three and given any conflicts with the release schedule for Berserk battles with Tanpenshu for that top spot. Definitely deserving but I wonder what readers would have thought if MONSTER were in the same list with OB for the Best Continuing Series Award... Tough call.

Very well deserved imo. I only read the first volume so far, but I was impressed with the quality of the story, the pacing, the characters etc. The scene of the man watching a flower for the first time in so many years brought tears to my eyes. Very powerful reading and a well deserved Eisner I'd say.
