New Title Round-up Part 1
I am seriously cranky right now. I am sleep deprived (6 hours in two days). Starving (two meals in 2.5 days). And I missed out on both the June/801 panel and the latest stop in Carl Horn's Guestroom Party World Tour!!! I could be sipping cocktails with manga savants right now, but instead I am scooping kitty litter while doing some midnight-blogging.

Reason number two... License hell. More on that later. Here is part one of our new licenses round-up.

CMX

CMX formally announced Presents from the Queen of Horror manga Inuki Kanako (which was listed in the latest Diamond Previews and was revealed to me in a recent interview I conducted with the group) at this panel. The group also went on to discuss their new policy for M rated manga. Starting this fall Presents and the debuts of Fujimi Shobo titles Orfina and Variante will be oversized (A5) and shrink-wrapped with a $12,95 price point. This is a new project CMX is testing out for their mature titles. Degrees of nudity and violence will influence the decisions on whether to rate a book M, but like every pub there will still be certain books CMX cannot release. That said, Asako Suzuki noted its possible that in the future readers could be surprised to see CMX release a title that readers wouldn't expect from them if things go well.

TenTen will be M rated starting issue #15. But the guests were also told the manga is not X rated, so if there are really questionable moments they might still be reworked. TenTen will not see a format or price change.

Oh, I asked about Emma 2 which recently started in Comic BEAM magazine. The manga is very new and runs monthly. CMX could not comment on the title at this moment but they did say Shirley is coming. More maids is more maids right!!

Viz

I always wondered if Viz was going to continue some of the SJ novel series. They have been going about these cautiously (a good idea really since well light novels are still pretty new out here) so generally announcements are sporadic and for one maybe two vols at a time. The second Naruto novel has been confirmed and is set for this fall. Naruto nation is going on line around the same time. Annette Roman had the quote for Friday when she said, "Manga is the Origin of Anime" when explaining why Viz is picking up the pace of the schedule. She also noted that new announcements were going to be staggered throughout the summer to give fans across the country a chance to feel the manga love.

So sweet of her to say that.

Broccoli

Broccoli Int's Director of Operations Shizuki Yamashita had at least two panels back to back yesterday. So she wasn't firing on all cylinders for the BroBooks panel. That said she did introduce BroBook's newest editor and she confirmed a license I kinda tricked her into leaking at Fanime... Sorry, I tend to ask those questions guys (tape my lips shut or poison my water next time)... I was pretty darn close with my guess. I was thinking the web novel from NIS's website was going to be the option but at least I wasn't totally off like SiJones...

Broccoli will be releasing a new World of Disgaea for the second game. The project is a huge task so they don't know when it will be done.

Oh oh, go buy E'S also... Why? Well it is an entertaining read and a great looking series, but also because BroBooks mentioned the MangaCast so often in this panel I almost thought we struck some crazy deal like they have with Cosmode or something.

More from the creator of Princess Princess for their DMP line. I often have a hard time calling a number of Wings titles josei but let me just say Shinshokan's titles are for teens and up as a general rule. And a super special treat is their omnibus release of the classic Speed Racer planned for next Feb or so. Huge huge books with hardcovers collected into two massive volumes for I believe $24.95 each. This my friends is for the WOtaku in your family. And it will be released in time for the movie.

Sad news was confirmed at the panel today. Range Murata's ROBOT series is now officially dead in the water. Erica Jeng basically gave me the bad news straight up when she stated "the title is in license HELL!" Glad she told me once the room was emptying (I got to the panel late and didn't hear it during their presentation) cause I didn't want to be seen crying by MM4MM'ers.

That's it for part one. Seven Seas and Go!Comi have been the big licensees this con so far, but I imagine June and 801 will have their share too (especially after Hikaru Sasahara said they -Digital Manga Inc - will be releasing around 12 vols a month later this year).
