While the big dog is away, the little peons are running the ship. Yay!!! It’s time for a party!! How fast can we burn through the company budget? Or maybe we should avoid the hangovers and just spurge on some manga purchases instead…

Since Pea organized the New Release List this week, it’s only fair that our uber-motivated member gets top billing. I have to toss some support for Hoshin Engi, too, as the first volume was a fun read.
I cannot believe that you guys over there haven't tasted Hoshin Engi and Yurara! These are must read! But to be specific, Hoshin Engi is to those who enjoy Dragon Ball or any similar adventure manga, while Yurara is for those who enjoy triangle love-mantic with exorcist career planned in front of you.
Erin
Erin is digging the sports titles…er…is dancing a sport?? They sure sweat enough to qualify, I guess….
Jarred
I can hear the manly sobs now. Is this why men carry hankies?? To mop up the tears of those manga fanboys?
Being the Hiroki Endo fanboy that I have now become, picking up Tanpenshu Vol #2 is an easy decision. Vol #1 blew me away, the best short-story collection I have read in manga format. It's dark and disturbing, yet emotional, thought-provoking, and filled with moments of self-reflection. Endo grew up with a rough and interesting childhood, which serves as inspiration for his stories. You may not see his tears smudging the ink of the pages, but they are there and feel very real. Love it.
MY HEAVENLY HOCKEY CLUB, Vol. 1
I've peeped this baby and it's a ton of fun. The author is very confident in what she feels is funny and I appreciate it. Plot is off the wall but the characters are all weird and likable. Actually, the characters are the best part of this book as it is all about the characters. Don't expect too much sport action. Also, Suzuka is heating up like crazy... this is definitely a Del Rey week for me.
Ed
Ed’s busy gallivanting about the country, but he still had time for a pick of the week.
My pick is Hokusai the First Manga Master.
I got to walk through the Tezuka Osamu exhibit today with Jack and once we were done, the curator of a wood block print exhibit gave the tour group a long speech about the relationship between Yoshitoshi, Hokusai and Tezuka. There is a long line of manga history that actually starts long before Hokusai, but those artists of the early 19th century begin to show that narrative element that makes manga's version of sequential art so powerful. If you thought Tezuka was the Master of Manga, then Hokusai had to be the first of a handful.
My Picks
The release list is a little beefier than it has been for the past few weeks. It was really tough narrowing the list!Beauty Pop Vol. 4 - Cosmetic Contest Pick of the Week! Hair Battles! Make-up Wars! Nail painting Fights! Sounds silly, doesn't it? This is a surprisingly entertaining read about releasing one's inner beauty.
Tail of the Moon Vol. 5 – What ninja mayhem will Usagi unleash in this volume? Will she be forced to go on a crash diet? Will she be able to improve her stealth skills to sneak a few snacks?
Yurara Vol. 1 – What?? More Chika Shiomi? Maybe there are no vampires or demons in this series, but there sure seem to be plenty of ghosts. And a heroine with a personality disorder. Sounds like my cup of tea!
