MW from Vertical Later this Year (rumored title)
Big Ups to my correspondent Andre for sending me this info.

According to information found over at Amazon Canada (suddenly the hot spot for new license hunters) is word of another Vertical title. Weeks after Takemiya Keiko's Andromeda Story was found at Amazon, another classic has been dug up for a Q3 2007 release. Tezuka Osamu's MW appears to be making the trip across the Pacific.

Pronounced "mu" this late 70's Shogakukan title takes a look vengeance and "original sin". The lead character in this manga is like nothing I have ever seen in a Tezuka manga. Pure evil is the only way to describe Yuki Michio. Having survived a tragedy as a young man, he grows up with something beyond rage inside of him. When he is not a at his day job, Yuki seems like epitome of evil as goes about manipulating, raping, and killing without showing remorse. And when his vengeance is not satiated he begins to plan out a way to kill humanity with the very substance that caused his nightmare 15 years ago!

As of yet I have not gotten word from Anne Ishii if MW or Andromeda Story has been confirmed or not. If they have been picked up, both will be welcomed additions to what is turning out to be a great line-up from the boutique pub. I am crossing my fingers as I wish to hear about both titles by NYCC later this month.

A final comment before I go about this... If people had issues with To Terra... being shounen/shoujo (I actually think it even has BL elements) what will the fans say when they see the homosexual relationship in this manga. A BL Tezuka manga?? Possibly not but I love to see the reaction from the BL reviewers out there. Would Yuki be an effeminate seme with Father Garai the uke @_@?? Vertical help me out here!!

Both MW and Andromeda Stories are listed in The Comics Journal #280's 2007 preview section, so we must have received confirmation at some point. Also listed as coming out from Vertical in November 2007: The Guin Saga Manga: The Seven Magi by Keichiro Ryu, described as "a spin-off from the popular Guin Saga fantasy series by Kaoru Kurimoto. (Since this is from the Journal issue currently on sale in comics shops, I assume I'm not giving away Vertical trade secrets or anything.)

http://www.sfreader.com/read_review.asp?ID=370 Given they've released the novel, that's a nice move.

....in my native language. I am a stranger to "BL" and "To Terra," but not to MW. I'm a docent at the Asian Art Museum, and we just had a Tezuka Osamu exhibit. I may be the only docent who mentioned MW (I don't know). The homosexual relationship is the ONLY loving thing Michio Yuki (or Yuki Michio) engages in. There will be, I am told, a "16+" stamped on the back (as with "Kirihito" and "Apollo's Song.") The story is great, and the ending is worthy of the darkest Hitchcock, but i can't help feeling that...

There may be a few little problems with the "16+" rating. What about Tomoe? (Japanese picture, not French) And the flashback near the beginning of volume 2 (any language!)? I'm trying to be subtle here. But, trying to put myself in the place of a conservative human being, I think I'd much rather see and "18" stamoped on a book and decide "Maybe I'd rather not read this one," than buy it for my enjoyment, and like my (transgender) friend, react wih a "YUK!"
