AmeAniAwards Manga Bone
I really don't have time to be blogging and mangasphering but I had to give you info on the American Anime Awards. I think ICv2 and a few other site are behind this and while the anime kinda works for me (is anything eligible because this is the first one or what are the criteria) the manga is stranger than a PWCW top ten list.

Can someone tell me where the heck this list came from? And how are titles like Twin Signal (which has sold like two copies) and Sword of Shibito (last print in early 2005) on this list? And from the way this list is set up I am almost surprised not to see the Tomb Raider "manga" on there.

Angelic Days??? That alone takes away any credibility to a list like this (kidding but peeps that is one bad manga)...

Best Manga

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days
  • Bleach
  • Monster
  • Disgaea
  • Sword of Shibito
  • Twin Signal
  • Kamui
  • Ohikkoshi
  • Fruits Basket
  • Apocalypse Zero
  • Cantarella
  • Death Note
  • Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service
  • Eureka Seven
  • Naruto
  • Chrono Crusade
  • Nodame Cantabile
  • Embracing Love
  • Berserk
  • Her Majesty's Dog

Hopefully Jarred or David will comment on this. Right now it is late in Osaka and I need to get to Nanba before the yatai pack up. I need to get Hiro dinner. Aba YO!

Those awards are fantastically stupid.

They had Conqueror of Shambala on the movie list twice, and FLCL on the same lists as newer series like Bleach...the nominations come from "industry professionals" and anything that is available in the US 2006-- regardless of when it was released --is eligible.

So technically you're voting for the best (whatever) of all time, which means they are seriously missing some stuff ;p

Ridiculous.

ANN has a article up and it can explain why these awards are going to mean nothing: ADV is behind all of it.

I just loved the part where the ICv2's rep try to say that the Oscars are the same b/c ABC airs them, so they are biased too

Wow, yeah, I just read that interview, and the whole process seems pretty broken and haphazardly thrown together. I'm more than a bit amused that they don't have a mechanism in place to determine whether Akira is a comedy or not. If they can't even manage easy things like that, then why should anyone give these awards any credibility (not that I think anyone really is)?

That interview did little to convince me that they're anything other than the joke they appeared to be from the first ballot.

Oh, these are sponsored awards...I wondered by Embracing Love is there, and *insert anything by Fumi Yoshinaga* is absent.
