A new ficathon round begins approximately once every three weeks. A poll is posted (currently on Thursdays) to determine the focus of the current round. The poll closes on Saturday, and a signup post goes up shortly thereafter. Signups close on Monday; assignments are sent out by Wednesday night (North American time), and participants have until the second Sunday after that (approximately 10 days) to complete their fic. Then a masterlist goes up, the fic (or links to it) is posted, and on Thursday, we start all over again.

Community Rules

1. Membership is restricted to those 18 years of age and older. You must have an age statement in your LJ profile showing that you are over 18 in order to join the community. We will also not be adding empty journals to the community. If you only want to read the stories (and not write for the ficathons), we encourage you to watch, rather than join, the community.

2. This community is restricted to BtVS, Angel, and Firefly fiction only. The only crossovers permitted are among those three shows.

3. This community is for male/male slash. We don't forbid mentions of m/f or f/f pairings (canonical or not), but the focus of your story should always be the m/m slash relationship.

4. Stories can be any rating, from NC-17/FRAO down to G/FRC. However, all stories must be slash; there must be some element of sexual and/or romantic attraction between the guys, even if it isn't acted upon. Friendship fic is awesome, but it's not what this community is for.

4.5. No character under the age of 16 is to be featured as part of a romantic pairing. Any story rated FRM/FRAO (R/NC-17, or the equivalent) involving a character under the age of 18 as part of a romantic pairing, or featuring incest whatever the rating, posted to this community must be posted under friends-lock and must contain a disclaimer stating that it is a work of fiction. Just because there are people out there who cannot tell the freaking difference.

5. A major element of the mini-ficathons is the short time frame. For that reason, we're fairly strict about unposted fic and people who routinely post fic late. Please read our current policies on late fic and dropouts before signing up.

6. The minimum word count for your stories is 500; there is no maximum, but stories should be posted complete--no WIPs should be posted. (A story with a planned sequel is fine, but the story should be able to stand on its own.)

7. We encourage you to get your fic beta-read. At the absolute least, your fic should be free of errors that can be found by the spellchecker built into LiveJournal; if we see a serious, persistent problem with that kind of easy-to-avoid error in your fic, we'll be contacting you via e-mail.

8. Please do not post anything but your fic (or a link to it) to the community without permission from the moderators. Commenting on existing posts is, of course, always welcome. In addition, please do not disable or freeze comments on posts in this community. Please do not delete comments other than your own. If there is a problem, please alert a moderator and let us deal with it. It's what we're here for.

8a. If you do not have a LiveJournal (and do not wish to get one) you can still participate in the ficathon. You can sign up via anonymous comment, and on the due date, link the masterlist to your fic posted elsewhere (another journal site/an archive/your website/etc.). You will need to provide us with an age statement via e-mail before you can participate in the ficathon. This also applies if you have an LJ, but do not wish to post fic on LJ--you are welcome to post it elsewhere and link us to that. If you do not have a LiveJournal, you will not be able to vote in polls, however.

9. We are aware of the "is it/isn't it canon" debate around the comics. As a community, maleslashminis is staying out of that debate. Our policy on the use of the comics in fic posted to this comm, including our spoiler policy, is here.

10. This community values the creative energy and time that writers pour into their fanfiction and share freely with us, other fans. Because of this, plagiarism will not be tolerated. Please go to the info page of stop_plagiarism for a definition of plagiarism. If we receive a report of plagiarism, it will be investigated and if verified, the plagiarist will be reported to stop_plagiarism and the poster will be banned from this community. We also encourage all of our members to support the creative labor of their favorite authors by joining stop_plagiarism. (This policy was taken from stop_plagiarism and is used with permission.)
