Haven't heard much from this community for awhile. Anyway, if people are still alive....

Does anyone know what the hell is going on in Eat Me, Drink Me. Fromm what I get, the whole centralized theme is a car crash, which I think, if stuff I've read was true, goes back to "Valentine's Day" (I saw that pregnant girl today/She didn't know that it was dead inside/Even though it was alive/Some of us are really born to die).

What I'm jumbledupply (it's alright, I'm a writer; I can make up words) asking is: could there have been a car cras a long time ago, back when Manson was with someone else, and she was pregnant, but she lost the baby, and then died in the hospitial after hours of fighting for life (I don't mind you keeping me on pins and needles/If I could stick to you/And you could stick me too) while he himself was getting treated (When I was gutted, she was dress in white)? And, because of it, he's either so physically or emotionally scarred (or both) that he HAS to wear that make-up?

I don't know; the only thing I read about this CD is it saved him from committing suicide, which led me to this. Because, after living with it for so long, he just wanted it to be over.

HELP!

And this CD was kind of disappointing.

What does Manson meann by "Disassociative"? It seems to me it's a play on dissociative fugue, in which one or more episodes of sudden, unexpected, and purposeful travel from home occur, during which a person cannot remember some or all of his past life (which was what Adam was doing), but is it a mixing of 2 words to bring two means together, such as "maniqueen" or "phenabarbie-doll"?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it

He was hinting at the upcoming symbol for the Celebritarian movement-- the Cross of Lorraine-- with the cover of the Holy Wood book (which is where the word "Celebritarian" was first mentioned)...

Well I'll be damned; it was right in front of us all along.
Hi all...

I wrote this essay as part of my A-level in English Literature. It doesn't uncover much- and I'm sure many of you may pick holes in it. But I thought I would post in none the less, it's only sat on my hard drive doing nothing. It's a comparison between Manson and Shakespeare. Hope you enjoy...

Anthony Holden claims, “each generation recreates Shakespeare in it’s own image” - do you think his judgement is correct in reference to The Tempest?

Shakespeare has been described as a “Universal Playwright for all ages” if this is true his work must hold significant relevance today. Obviously modern culture and the arts have changed drastically from the time in which Shakespeare wrote, to the present day. The contemporary media is very much influenced by the importance of the social context of reading and writing. The actual act of reading in the younger generations has greatly decreased and has been replaced by other art forms including music. There are also many candidates for a modern contemporary for Shakespeare, as creator alone, but when creation is also to be discussed simultaneously, a fitting re-embodiment of Shakespeare must be found.

Such an embodiment, in the eyes of many open minded critics, is the modern poet, lyricist and musician Brian Warner. This name means nothing to most people, but the name Marilyn Manson immediately strikes up thought of surrealism and in most cases, misinterpreted vulgarity. His fourth studio album ‘Mechanical Animals’ was attested to worldwide as the highest standard of media, keeping this album at the top of the American billboard charts for a then record breaking 5 weeks upon it’s release in 1998. It can be said then that this is our first real reflection of Shakespeare; a commercial success that is somehow morally suspect, much as it was for Shakespeare, and for any person involved in Theatrical performance in the late 16th and early 17th century.

So now we are lead to the question, how can Marilyn Manson and the afore mentioned album be compared to Shakespeare and his final play before retirement; The Tempest? Quite simply, with ease. In turn and due course, the creator and final product shall be analysed for similarities, and of course differences in the stated arts. In doing this we shall have a clearer view of to what extent the creator and creation- Marilyn Manson really is the modern image of William Shakespeare.

First then, we come to parallels in the themes that both The Tempest and Mechanical Animals manifest. For information and critical reading upon Mechanical Animals and other works by Brian Warner, I consulted the reviews by American critic Paula O’Keefe. To continue then, quoting Warner directly, he was once credited as saying to the readers of his website that Mechanical Animals is “A pill that can make you anybody else.” in simpler terms, the album was created as a form of escapism from real life, not just as a drug related euphoria. Just as The Tempest and all of Theatre created by Shakespeare achieves equally.

This then is our first real and provable link between the two, as previously mentioned, The Tempest was Shakespeare’s final play before retirement and contains more stage directions than any of his previous plays combined- in short- this play is about Theatre, it’s extravagance, opulence and ability to remove the audience from the here and now places them in a world where anything can happen. They have surrendered themselves, at least until the play or album finishes to the intimate thoughts of it’s creator. This is shown constantly through the staging and restaging of characters and is reinforced by Prospero’s final farewell to ‘his’ Island- is this too, Shakespeare’s final farewell to the Globe Theatre? The point will be show in the following extract-

The cloud-capped towers… the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,

The previous excerpt shows us perhaps not only what Prospero believes but also what Shakespeare believes; dreams may be the subject of life, they may energize us, delight us, educate us, and reconcile us to each other, but we cannot live life as a dream. Ian Johnston once lectured on the same subject in which he stated that “We may carry what we learn in the world of illusion with us into life, and perhaps we may be able, through art, to learn about how to deal with the evil in the world, including our own. But art is not a substitute for life, and it cannot alter the fundamental conditions of the human community.” In short, he states that the magic island upon which the story takes place is not Milan, and human beings belong in Milan with all its dangers as they do in other tangible realities, if they are to be fully human. He finished with the quote- “Life must be lived historically, not aesthetically.”

Shakespeare’s beautifully written farewell encompasses fully what is stated in the above extract from Ian Johnston, It is clear to see that Prospero wishes to leave his island for this exact reason, this isn’t only for selfish reasons either- his daughter has found love in Ferdinand and Prospero wishes for them to wed as shown…

“Then, as my gift and thine own acquisition worthily purchased, take my daughter…”

Surely all that is said in Prospero’s farewell, then can be stated of Manson’s own concept of Mechanical Animals, it may be a pill to make you anyone, else, but it is only a pill; a drug that can only last for so long before an ultimate return to reality, and returning to the realisation of one’s own life.

Another key theme that runs through both The Tempest and Mechanical Animals is that of Religion. Again referring to the work of Paula O’Keefe the hidden meaning within Manson’s work can be analysed to reveal three fictitious characters, one of which is Manson’s alter ego, the other two are of biblical reference; Omega and Alpha; binary opposites, the latter removed from reality; an all knowing eye. The second is human and utterly breakable but still all knowing, but has learned via intuition and the pains of life. The following lyrical excerpts are taken from tracks on Mechanical Animals.

One of the first ‘Alpha’ tracks on the album is ‘Dissasociative’ By mere title alone, it shows indefinitely the position of the Alpha- “ I can tell you what they say it Space; that your world is too grey…” The use of the narrative first person when Warner speaks about ‘your world’ creates the implied meaning that Alpha doesn’t belong to our world- and is other worldly or Angelic in appearance. (This leads me to the belief that Warner has used this as a reflection of the Biblical story of Revelations, more exactly, Revelation 22:13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega; the beginning and the end.”

Next comes the painfully emotional thought of the Omega from the track ‘Fundamentally Loathsome’- “When I hate I know I can feel, when you love you know it’s not real.” This quote highlights the emotion upon which Omega operates. It also highlights how, as the Omega, he has seen up to the end of the world and has realised that it equates as emotionless, a compliant machine that we satire with human emotions ironically, as we become more robotic in ourselves every day, and reflects in my mind Shakespeare’s Caliban.

Although the subject matter of Revelation changes the meaning of the words, Manson gives these words real character in which they can see and in one case, truly feel human struggle. These two roles can also be seen also to fit two characters in Shakespeare’s The Tempest; Ariel and Caliban.

This link may be unclear at first, but I will endeavour to clarify it within this next section. Both Ariel and Manson’s Alpha share a variety of common qualities. As previously stated, Alpha is by definition, separated from the physical world, as is Ariel, bi-genderless and elemental, Ariel provides Prospero with unlimited power and knowledge, as shown in the following quote from Shakespearian critic August Wilhelm Schlegel in 1811...

“Shakespeare’s character of Ariel is to be linked with the element of air, and should be contrasted with the character of Caliban, who is linked with the lower element of Earth”

Leading on from this then, Schlegel was the first critic to link Caliban with Earthly attributes, remaining one of the most compelling characters of the play elicited a large portion of the critical interest in the play. Early commentators were often drawn to Caliban. In 1679 John Dryden saw this figure as an example of Shakespeare's ability at creating distinctive and consistent characters, he also remarked on the Caliban’s malice, ignorance, and sinful nature. Dryden’s analysis of this character fit similarly to Omega.

The only difference being that both Omega and Caliban, in my view, show far more intelligence than they are credited for, both do show ignorance and malice, but both are completely aware that they are doing so. Daniel Wilson said that Caliban was not instinctively evil as has been the view from other critics, instead he offered the idea that Caliban is simply amoral, and acts on impulse, as stated in his book “Caliban; the Missing Link”.

In the Omega track ‘New Model No.15’ lifted again from the Mechanical Animals LP, Omega refers to himself as “Fake as a wedding cake, I’m vague and I know that I’m Homopolitan” filled with irony and magazine title puns, this track demonstrates exactly how Omega feels; he knows he isn’t an Angel and he’s proud. Caliban is seen by Prospero as a demon, evil and dumb…
“His mother was a witch;… and this demi-devil,—
For he's a bastard one,—had plotted with them
To take my life”

‘This demi-devil’ refers to Caliban in his attempt to seize back the Island that he claims Prospero stole from him. The Island, it seems, shows Caliban’s more intelligent side…

“The clouds methought would open and show riches
Ready to drop upon me; that, when I wak'd,
I cried to dream again.”

‘I cried to dream again’ - this phrase reflects on whole, the Omega in every sense of the word- could this be interpreted as Caliban crying for a release? Maybe even a release from life its self, a life in which all that was dear to him was stolen from under his nose. Paula O’Keefe made this assumption Omega in his wish to be released-

“Nothing means anything to him, his Mommy’s lost and his Daddy’s a stranger, he’s bored even of nihilism…”

In conclusion to this point, and partly, the hub of this essay, is the fact that Manson and Shakespeare create characters so completely full as Ariel and Alpha, Caliban and Omega, their reflections of Religious meaning go beyond Revelation as a search for what it means to be human. Omega and Caliban are the pure polar opposites of the newborn, reborn, and perfect beings on the other end of the spectrum; Ariel and Alpha.

Next we come to Shakespeare and Manson themselves, in context with their two works of Theatrical Art. The question has often been asked, as to whether William Shakespeare created the role of Prospero for himself, as earlier mentioned, his final speech contains echoes of a speech bidding farewell to the Globe Theatre. And also as mentioned before, there is a 3rd character who speaks through the voice of Brian Warner in Mechanical Animals; Coma White, the name is never said, but is hinted at continually through every track. Paula O’Keefe said the following;

“It is a haunting presence; Coma White, may it be a Girl or a Ghost? Or an empty manic energy with a wild and despairing tone?”

The only clue as to Manson actively taking on the role of Coma White as himself, is in the accompanying album sleeve to the album in question, where Coma White is credited as singing the following line-
“You come from a perfect world, a world that threw me away today…”

Manson sings all the lyrics he creates, Alpha and Omega are never credited, they are assumed. So what makes Coma White so special? Perhaps it is the overwhelming autobiographical detail to the words that are credited to Coma White that makes Manson actively possess this role as his own. He has often spoke of how he was an unhappy child, abused at home and bullied at school. This it can be observed would give him a reason to despair, to see himself as an outcast from ‘a perfect world’. He has even been quoted as saying in his autobiography ‘The Long Hard Road out of Hell’ that “…He role-plays in life as a general rule.”

It is also tempting to draw more similarities between the lives of Shakespeare and that of Prospero, more so simply than they are both retiring from their most potent roles, Prospero is a scholar with a magic book from an entire library that so absorbed him that it was, "dukedom large enough". Prospero also displays a degree of regret that he may have neglected his “worldly office as Duke of Milan in favour of the life of the mind.” Similarly, most of Shakespeare's biographers have agreed that the playwright's knowledge was exceedingly broad, even leading some to believe that he had a number of other literal occupations before settling into a life in the theatre.

Great Similarities can be drawn also from the Roles of Prospero and Coma White; they both hold a position of ultimate power over the other characters in each piece. Coma White controls the Alpha and Omega through dependency- both Omega and Alpha admit their dependence on something and this is exactly what Coma White claims to be; a dependence on anything other than yourself.

Prospero however, maintains his position and authority through knowledge of magic and threats of physical violence-

“For this, be sure, to-night thou shalt have cramps…each pinch more stinging
Than bees that made them”

This quote is fine example of how Prospero threatens Caliban with physical violence, Caliban, representing a lowly slave, has nothing else to do but comply to Prospero’s command. Perhaps more intriguing is just how Prospero has any control over the elemental being Ariel. We learn that Prospero rescued Ariel from the "foul witch" Sycorax and will free Ariel himself when his plans for the nobles are complete. I do find it somewhat unbelievable however, that a creature of such magical power as Ariel is so easily contained by Prospero, when he himself uses Ariel as his main source of power, perhaps it is not untrue to suggest then that Ariel has a more developed sense of gratitude and servitude to Prospero for his release instead of the idea that he is forced to do as he is commanded by Prospero, whilst Caliban detests Prospero for his almost colonial power over what was once his own land.

One major difference between Shakespeare and Manson then, and there works Mechanical Animals and The Tempest comparatively, is that The Tempest is the only play in which Shakespeare has written for a distinct purpose other than financial gain; by this point in his career he was the most successful playwright in Britain and was writing his final play. Marilyn Manson however, creates his art form to appease and gratify himself, he has also been quoted as saying that his lyrics and appearance are the only ways he feels comfortable expressing himself; in short- each piece of work he creates contains a role designed specifically for himself, he embodies the very concept of each album he creates, and changes with each in turn.

In conclusion then, it is quite easy to see that Anthony Holden’s ideological view that Shakespeare is recreated in every generation may quite possibly be true, Marilyn Manson for the best part is as poetical, imaginative and lyrically astute as Shakespeare, and perhaps more important to this essay, The Tempest and more specifically the characters within are reflected with ease with Manson’s Mechanical Animals.

To what extent exactly, it is a complete reflection of Shakespeare’s work would not be able to be answered without more in depth study. If indeed, every generation was to recreate Shakespeare in their own image then each person’s answer is as individual and as valid as the next; a person’s own self image and the image of each generation changes constantly, surely George Lucas, Andrew Lloyd Webber and The Beatles are equally valid answers to a generation’s great literary genius. The following was once said by Francis Bacon…

“We are much beholden to others, that write what men do, and not what they ought to do.”

But I put it to you, that the ability to speak through barriers in any art form, be it ancient, theatrical or Thoroughly modern is a gift and should appreciated as such.

Bibliography

“William Shakespeare”- 1999, Anthony Holden.
“The Omega and the Alpha; Mechanical Animals”- 1998, Paula O’Keefe.
“The Advancement of Learning.”- 1605, Francis Bacon.
“A Lecture prepared for the Liberal Studies of Shakespeare”- 1999, Ian Johnston
“Caliban; The Missing Link” -1873, Daniel Wilson
“The Long Hard Road out of Hell” -1999, Marilyn Manson

heh, how do you like that, i keep finding Manson songs that i can relate to that i nnever got before. this time, it's "Fundamentaly Loathesome"

on another topic, in "Coma Back" is it supposed to be Coma singing the chourus like I found out it was in "Coma White" (i don't have the actual MA CD, so i periodically look up lyrics to songs, even though i know them by heart, and found the chorus was in quotation, and it said [Coma]: "You were.... ...to run away)?

i know according to samuraikoala32s essay (which makes ALOT of sense to me), i guess it's supposed be Adam ("This was never my world [outcasted for his beliefs], you took the angel away [Valentine killed Coma]"), but i dont get how "i'd kill myself to make everybody pay" really fits in, since he doesn't kill himself til "Count To 6 And Die". meh, i guess i shouldnt think about it, as my brain still no work good, and just patiently wait for the whole essay.

I was listening to "Use You Fist And Not Your Mouth" and I had a strange thought. The song-- arguably-- is an obvious reference to facism. However, he says more than once in the song "I'm on a hate American style kick" (by the way, "Love American Style" was a sitcom in the 70s for those who didn't know). So is the song really about facism in Germany, or rather the facism in America?

EDIT: By the way, I was working on my triptych essay today. I completley rearranged what I said for Holy Wood to include the concept of the Valley of Death and started getting into Mechanical Animals.

Wrote up an essay. Pretty rough stuff... nothing too groundbreaking or new either, at least thas what i think... delving into the story of Antichrist Superstar basically. Yea, just read and tell me what ya think, or if i'm wrong about stuff, or if it was good and you learned new stuff. thnx

Antipeople now you’ve gone too far

The album is the story of the rise of the antichrist. It is told is chronological order, except for the first song, which takes place as the antichrist rises: Valentine's Day, February 14th, 1997 -the album notes this as the day the song was recorded-.
To understand the monster's origins, we delve into the past, the beginning of the story. The antichrist was not always what he was. He was born a worm, insignificant. He grows up in the world of "The Beautiful People", a world where the attractive succeed, a world where appearance and good looks are what get you ahead. He is abused by others for their own benefit; they use him to achieve their own ends, not giving a second thought to their cruel treatment. The worm feels bitter and the seeds of who he will become are planted.

"You shove your hair down my throat
I feel your fingers in me
Tear this bitter fruit to mess
And wrap it in your soiled dress
now you must spit out the seeds"

The worm's love life is hopeless. Women use him the same way everyone else does. In a grotesque act of desperation, he attempts to create the perfect companion, a woman "made of hair and bone and little teeth and things I cannot speak", but soon realises this thing is merely a tourniquet -A device used to check bleeding by temporarily stopping the flow of blood through a large artery in a limb.- and it will not ever fill the hole missing in his life.
Little Horn is a biblical reference. In the book of Daniel, this person was one who spoke out against god. At this point, the worm truly feels anger and hate for the media driven, celebrity worshipping society around him. He wants to save these people

"Save yourself from this, save yourself from this."

but quickly realises its futile:

"You can't save yourself, you can't save yourself"

As he becomes disillusioned with everything around him, including god, he feels a change occurring in him. He strives for greater things... and begins on his path to becoming the man of his dreams, the rock star; Marilyn Manson. There are two transformations in the story, and they are marked by the lines:
"Prick your finger it is done...
the moon has now eclipsed the sun...
the angel has spread its wings...
the time has come for bitter things..."
In this case, our hero has started the second part of his life.
Suddenly, our former worm has become something stronger. As people start to gather around him and listen to him, he enjoys his new found power. He begins to learn what he is capable of and begins to spread his message.

“you are the one I want and what I want is so unreal
I’m such a dirty Rock star yeah...
I am the one you want and the one you want is so unreal”

The rock star begins to understand what is happening to him in Wormboy. He is slipping into the very world he grew up hating. As even more people rally to his cause, and look to him as a leader. Ironically, he despises these people because of the way they worship him as a god for the simple reason that he has become famous:

“I know that I can turn you on
I wish I could just turn you off
I never wanted this

Hate has begun to manifest itself in the rock star.
Angel with the scabbed wings is an important chapter in this story. In it, our hero gains a deep insight about two things:
1)His own nature: He feels yet another, more significant change occurring within him. The fame he has experienced has numbed him, made him inhuman “Dead is what he is, he does what he please” He also sees a duality within himself. To his fans, he is the maker, the saviour, but he knows the truth, he is the taker, the raper.

2) The nature of the fans that follow him. To them, he is no person, he is merely a thing, there for their entertainment. “sketch a little keyhole for looking-glass people, you don't want to see him, you only want to be him.”

Before undergoing his final change, our hero reflects on his past. –If you’ve read The Long Hard Road Out of Hell, you’ll realise this is a song about Manson’s grandfather, Jack Warner. This was a man who, at the time, Manson respected and loved, but intensely feared. He represented everything disgusting and vile. Despite the man’s physical disfigurement, he had sexual fetishes that would make the Marquis de Sade look like a nun. In this point of the story, our hero realises he has become everything he feared, he has become his grandfather.- Our hero is now ready for the final change.

And as our hero stands atop his podium, in front of a crowd that rivals a fascist rally, he berates them for what they have done to themselves:
“you built me up with your wishing hell
I didn't have to sell you
you threw your money in the pissing well
you do just what they tell you”
He realises that he has become a monster, a hydra. You cannot kill him. Try to hurt him, and he retaliates two fold. And so the antichrist is born, as signified by the “Prick your finger it is done…” lines.
The Antichrist’s wrath is at it’s peek. After sowing destruction and chaos throughout the world with his vengeful music and radically nihilistic ideas (1996), his only wish is to die. He despairs at the world and at himself. He’s tired of this life, he hates who he has become and if he dies, he wants to take the whole world with him (Minute of Decay). In his eyes, everything is born to die.
He is consumed by the thoughts of how the world is a terrible places, devoid of anyone or anything good.
“your world is an ashtray
we burn and coil like cigarettes
the more you cry your ashes turn to mud
it's the nature of the leeches, the virgin's
feeling cheated
you've only spent a second of your life”

But the saddest part, as the antichrist realises, is that even god cannot save him, because the only god that ever existed was himself.
“I went to god just to see, and I was looking at me
saw heaven and hell were lies
when I'm god everybody dies”

Each person is their own god, their own devil, and they must take responsibility for their own actions. He cannot forgive himself, or anyone else for what they have done.
“No salvation, no forgiveness”

The antichrist contemplates suicide. It is the only option for him now, the only exit. And perhaps, in committing this final act, he will be martyred; maybe the people will finally understand him.

Before shooting himself, the antichrist gives one last performance. He struggles to justify himself “I was born into this” “someone had to go this far”. Any worm could become what he has, it could’ve easily happened to someone else. But our hero realises his own failure to effect change “everything turns to shit.” Life is a cut that never heals, something that will hurt forever. It is evident that history will repeat itself, that people will go on living the same way they did before, and that for all his effort, our hero has accomplished nothing.

The legacy of the antichrist is an electronic recording:

Go ahead and build a better messiah, we can dig another grave
This is your calling.
If you are hearing this, there is nothing I can do
Something has grown in my chest.
And I have seen it.
It is hard and cold.
It's been dormant for many years.
I have tried to save you, but I cannot come to save you
But this is what you deserve
This is what we deserve
This is something that we have brought upon ourselves
We are not a victim, you are not a victim
We are not a victim, you are not a victim
God will grovel before me.
God will crawl at my feet.
These are the dying years.
These are the dying years.
When you are suffering, know that I have betrayed you.

The haunting message here is that if he couldn’t change the world, no one can. They will die trying. It is the way of the people. We deserve damnation. He wishes us to remember him when the world ends, remember how he tried to save us but instead betrayed us by giving up and killing himself.

So ends the triptych

Heh, it still makes me wonder why Manson has such a creative mind to bring out a three cd story like the AS triptych, yet he wears all kinds of make-up to put people off from listening to said music. Maybe it has to do with the idea of racism/stereotyping; no matter what color you are, or how much of a freak you look like, you could have some of the best ideas in the world, and only the ones that accept it can understand.

Or something.

Hi, although this community gives me a headache from thinking about the intricacies of Manson's music (my brain no work good), it did interest me.

Today, I was looking in a cd review community I moderate, where I reviewed GAoG (that has nothing to do with what I'm saying, just filler), and another member and I got to talking about all his other music. Well, I always wondered, since I heard it, if "New Model #15" was a cover, because I thought I heard it from either David Bowie or Billy Idol. She told me...

Yeah... I've talked lightly on that subject... I remember hearing from my friend that Manson wanted to release an album that was finished and the label said no because one of his songs was almost a direct copy of someone else's (or something of the like), so it sat on the shelves for years until the label finally gave in and released it.

And I took this info to another Manson community, and they said it was wrong, so I let it go. Well, when I read that today, I remembered reading something in here about MA being AFTER HW in the triptych (and i remember reading ".. that is the album that leads up to the rise of the antichrist", so was AS the last in the triptych [btw, that's not my question either, but my mind raises too many questions]), so anyone know if its true that MA sat on the self for years?

... yea, anything to do with analysis? not so much

I posted this on myspace:

This photo is found in Lest We Forget. The booklet is divided into several panels that reflect a different part of Manson's career/ albums. The first is Portrait of an American Family and Smells Like Children, then Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, Holy Wood, Golden Age of Grotesque, and Lest We Forget. This photo is on the last panel, AFTER Lest We Forget. Is it possible that this image reflects the era to come? What are your thoughts?

By the way, I plan on continuing my essay soon to extend a bit more on Holy Wood and add an interpretation of Mechanical Animals (and maybe Antichrist Superstar... I think I should spend a bit more time brainstorming before I write about that). I got an essay due for class on the 15th, so I'll probably pick up again after that date. Just in case anyone's interested.

As we all know, that is the album that leads up to the rise of the antichrist.

Also, somewhere else in Revelation, it mentions that the antichrist will ascend from the water or something. Anyone know where that is? I think the beginning of the video for "Disposable Teens" refers to that.

I guess I forgot to mention it. I'm writing an essay to try and clearly explain my interpretation of the triptych as well as how my "3 Comas" theory comes into play. I haven't finished it yet, but it's already like 6 pages and I've only covered Holy Wood. atom0001's analysis of Mechanical Animals-- which he recently posted on this community-- continues from where I left off in my essay.
Mechanical Animals Interpretation

This is my first attempt to try to interpret the narrative aspect of Mechanical Animals, so if you must comment, please be kind.

Key: []= References such as lyrics and, if not mentioned in the paragraph, songs.
()= My personal commentation

ok, I am going to begin this interpretation as the continuation of samuraikoala32's intepretation.

It begins with Adam, the protagonist that was introduced in Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), in space. If you might not have known in the previous chapter of his life, he commited suicide. Mechanical Animals begins with Adam's observation of earth. He sees it wrong, that there is a problem that he must he must fix, which he states in "Disassociative" [I can tell you what they say in space, That our earth is too grey] and "Great Big White World" [In space the stars are no nearer, They just glitter like a morgue/ .... and our world was so fucking gone]. He returns to earth, no longer as Adam, but now as Omega.

(This is where I'm still not quite sure about, but based on the songs "The Dope Show", "Rock is Dead", and "New Model No.15" that he was reformed in California (COMPLETELY UNSURE OF, JUST A HYPOTHESIS) and due to his newly acquired body he was discovered. )

Somewhere along the line, he struck fame in the form of "Omega and Mechanical Animals", which can be based on the image that Marilyn Manson's live performances of the Mechanical Animals Era was trying to pursue and the end of "Posthuman" [Where in the midst of the crowd cheering "Omega and Mechanical Animals" was introduced.] Along the lines of fame Omega spirals down a deep depression and began to hate himself for becoming the object of all his hate and the reason for his return.["I wanna dissappear"] Not only that, but the involvement of drugs began to take its toll.

(The subject that I am about to enter is the most uncertain of them all, so please do not kill me for making a mistake.)
During this time, Coma appeared to him. It was her, but somehow it wasn't her either. She had became what Omega had become, a vacancy of which was addicted to drugs. And Coma no longer had the feelings that she once had for him. Omega moved slowly further down that pool of depression as he struggles with mix feelings about the new Coma.["Coma White"]
Feelings expressed in "The Speed of Pain" [But just remember, when you think you're free, the crack inside your fucking heart is me/...I hope at least we die holding hands for always] where he hates, yet still loves her.

(The next subject is also uncertain)
But it seems he cannot escape his feelings for her in "The Last Day on Earth" [In all my past lives I played an asshole. Now I found you it's almost too late. And this earth seems obliviating./...I know its the last day on earth, We'll be together while the planet dies. I know its the last day on earth, We'll never say goodbye]

(From "The Last Day On Earth", I've also marked the conclusion due to [The Chourus line mentioned above and/ I know they want me dead.], What I can interpret is that it might be Omega's Last Day on Earth and he wanted to be with Coma as the world around them slowly deteoriates and as Omega begins to leave, Never wanting leave Coma)
