The shadows danced silently on the walls, black marionettes on a canvass of cream and crimson.

He paced the room studying the macabre piece of art. Not his best work but he was out of practice.

Another candle flickered, died, and he dropped the butt of his cigarette into an abandoned plastic cup.

Pausing at the table in the center of the room, he dipped a red tinted finger into soft white icing, then painted it on pale, pink lips.

As the last candle went out, he bent and kissed the cold, sweet lips one last time.

“Happy Birthday, Slayer.”

And that was the problem, right there.

Jonah was never one to listen when told he shouldn’t or couldn’t do something. He always got what he wanted, one way or another.

As the boy bent further over the car, jeans hugging his firm ass, and the hunger got the better of him, Jonah licked his lips and made his decision.

Jake Green was going to belong to him.

"An' y'all'd love it," Rogue teased, scooping up the last bags. "Keep her, Tim. Ah got this." She led the way back to the door again, and started carefully juggling everything she was carrying in order to open it. With a small huff of frustration, she blew her white bangs out of her eyes and carefully slipped gloved fingers around the handle, feeling like she had a half-dozen eggs in a half-dozen spoons to balance.

Remy opened it carefully, taking another of Callie's bags from Rogue. "Dere we go," he said, steadying Tim with his other hand. "Careful. She's no' heavy enough t' break you' fall."

"Thanks," Rogue smiled with resignation. Clearly Remy was going to be in her space all week. Not that that was a bad thing, exactly. It was far more to the good than the bad. If she could manage to stop wishing for things she couldn't have, and be happy with what she did, it would likely be a wonderful time. Fact was, though, being with Bobby had never given her nearly the frustrations or longings that not being with Remy gave her. She was the donkey between two piles of hay, not satisfied with either, and likely to starve unless she could find a path that didn't make her crazy!

Previously:

Once Rogue found syringe after syringe of the Cure, hundreds upon hundreds of them, neatly ranked and stored in a filing cabinet with what she recognized as an appalling lack of security, she had another urge, one that shocked her. If Warren was honest, and she had no reason to doubt that he was, ten out of every one hundred of those gleaming syringes held not a cure, but a death. Even after reworking the Cure, even after taking every precaution they could, that had been the best that ZemCo., under Warren’s watchful eyes this time around, had been able to manage. Rogue’s fingers twitched with the urge to reach out and smash them all. She reached out to the trays and swept up three safety capped syringes instead, which she wrapped and tucked into the pocket of her shirt. Her thoughts wavered back and forth on the rest of the doses, but finally, she left, having done nothing. She simply could not bring herself to choose for others.

Five minutes later, she was back. One of the ten flats of doses was dumped into the sink, and crushed into splinters by a piece of two-by-four she’d found in the janitor’s closet. She might not be able to steal someone’s choice, but she could at least leave another warning. She hoped it would be read that way, anyway. She turned on the taps of the sink, and left water running over the shards of glass and shining bright needles, to be sure that any dregs of the cure would be washed away.

Summary: Rogue's world turned upside down at a school dance when she accidentally absorbed a star quarterback and discovered she was a mutant with an awful gift. When Xavier and his team of do-gooders came chasing after her with shiny happy recruitment speeches, she chose instead to make a deal with her adopted mothers, and won two years of freedom studying art and adjusting to her mutation in New York City. But Mystique's come up against a dangerous deadline, and even if she has to hire a couple less-than reputable members of the Thieves' Guild to kidnap Rogue, she's getting her daughter back. Now.

Previously:

Bleakly, Rogue considered her options. She had to get strong again. Strong enough to find Mystique, and to face her down. To kill her. If this man would feed her and house her while she did it, good for her. It would save her money and mean she didn't have to waste time on survival. And with bad blood between him and Mystique --not to mention how hard they'd tried to recruit her two years before-- Yes. She wasn't totally powerless in this negotiation. Something she had, or was... he wanted. It didn't matter why, only that he did. "Just get me outta this fuckin' infirmary," she said, her voice breaking on the swear word.

Xavier nodded. "We'll get you some clothes and I'll have Ororo show you to your room. Again... I'm very sorry for your loss." Xavier looked properly somber as he wheeled back and sent a telepathic message to Ororo to come see about the new member of their family.

Rogue looked up at Dr. McCoy and the Professor, all her vitality quenched and her eyes swimming with tears, and then away again, fixing her eyes on her hands until the tall black woman came and took her away. She never spoke of Remy LeBeau to any of the mansion residents again.
