Transceivers, Cell Phones, and RS-232.

Transceivers, Cell Phones, and RS-232. Ok, here is my situation, I would like to have my computer communicate large distances to a Microcontroller. I can find simple RS-232 transceivers that will get the job done, but will only communicate a distance of 20 Meters. I found one company that www.maxstream.com that sells RS-232 RF modems that can go up to 30 miles (if you have an extreme antenna). But I would like to communicate with my MCU device over greater distances. Perhaps 100 miles, but it is within a cell site. I don’t mind using a cell phone, but I don’t know how. Could anyone help me out here?

First post from a new member

Hello everyone,

Just a question to the folks here who actually work in the industry. How has your company been handling the no-lead policy coming out next year? Buyer planners going nuts trying to get lead free components and raw bare boards? And also have you had to buy new equipment?

My experience with this issue thus far has been the following: finding parts hasn't been a huge issue for running profiles. Only run one tin bare board with favorable results. And equipment, new drags and a new wave solder machines as well as new reflow ovens, since one of the old ones wasn't nitrogen capable.

Only around 10 months to go and I think it's going to be hell getting it going.

Also, what has your experience been with China. This seems to be a reoccuring theme in at least with what I have been hearing. Cheaper yes, but the quality issues, rework and bad lead times blow those inital savings to hell. We have tried to send afew producs to china for manufacture, and all of it has come back because of quality issues. This is especially true for some components. Some of our test batches had 60% failure rates, and these where just simple toroids. So now we are scrambling to get some of our domestic suppliers back.

So how's it been going?

Multiple Serial Lines

I'm curious of exactly how one gets multiple serial lines to go into one port. That is, if it is even possible.

Basically, I have 3 serial devices that I hope to connect to a computer. The thing is, I'm sending it over an RF rs-232 line.

Any ideas?

Hi everyone.

I'm attempting to build my very first electronic device, amd I have a couple of dumb questions that hopefully some of you can help me with.

First off, what are diodes and their function? If I knew this, I could better understand my second question of..

How do the two diodes connect to the rest of the circuit? Lol, like I said.. Dumb question. But I'm a newb at this, so give me a break.. ;)

Magic Smoke emitted.

Here's what I sent to Asus.

During troubleshoot of a bad CPU, I accidentally put a DIMM in backwards.
power MOSFET "9915H 345056" overheated, cracked, ruptired, and emitted smoke. This of course voids the warranty of this brand new board.
------
Amazingly enough, the second mosfet happens to provide enough power for low-speed, such as accessing the bios. All voltage specs are OK. Once the CPU is cranked up to full speed, the system fails to boot (assuming not quite enough power, or maybe power quality is bad).
----
So, since I can't RMA this board, I thought I would replace the mosfet and see if the board still worked otherwise (except the cooked pin in dimm slot 1).
----
All online references to this part show that Asus uses it, and that it is TO-252 form factor, and that it is a MOSFET. I couldn't find much in the way of reference to the specs of this mosfet. Could you check with your engineers and see what the specs are, who makes it, compatable part number cross reference, etc?
----
Thank you for your time.

Anyone have a clue on where I can find specs for this MOSFET? (9915H on Asus board, TO-252)

Update 2005-01-08It's been a long time and the board has sence been disposed of. It's moot at this point. There really is no need to reply to something this old. I've disabled further commenting.

I think it'd be cool to build a computer (best for laptops or embedded/remote-solar-power) that had a numerically controlled oscillator as its clock, using the load average to scale its run speed.
