| Magestry Winter Travels and Happenings |
[Nov. 22nd, 2009|05:48 pm] |
Please make your best efforts to not wait until the deadline to submit winter travel requests. The more time we have to get everything written the better it is and the more time we have to plan out the actual event.
Also, anyone who is going on the expedition to Heartwood in Lowex, get that in by February 1st, if you don't, expect a generalized response. If you are going to Heartwood, have one of the small black orbs, and are bringing it with you, please e-mail me at darktranquility2468@gmail.com.
Please take some time to re-familiarize yourselves with some of the basic rules (Spell durations, incants, proper incant formats, etc)as well as learning some of the more common effects used (Flatten, Stun, etc) and make note of the Parry/Dodge charts. |

To all who commented on dinner - I'm very glad that you liked it and really do appreciate the compliments!
(Only slightly) sorry that I couldn't express that as The Chef. Also a huge thanks to Erin, Angela, Mike, & rest of the NPCs who helped give ideas to make me wonderfully awful! |

Woo hoo! Well, as another season comes to a close, I wonder what everyone's best and worst was...
The Good: Chili with eggs for breakfast. Fur coat still is the warmest thing ever even when soaked with water and mud. No sleep humor all day Saturday that kept people laughing all day and forged new inside jokes. [HELIK! YOU'RE AN ACCOMPLICE NOW!] Friday night mod right before Sunrise was astoundingly awesome. Reconfiguring it to get another usage for it was great. Good job Cahill. Watching Talis and Nevaeh work together to get through assassin field trips. Slapping the everlasting concussions into spirits Saturday night after Ari and Vaashra decided that it didn't matter if everyone thinks we're evil, we're still not going to be. Barrier team go! That's right, Vaashra JUST hit level 5... The overall intensity of this event was win. Getting a couple diamonds and another few handfuls of gems.
The Bad: Rain, rain, RAIN. Did I mention the rain? Cause our roof leaks bad... Kendrick died. He was family to Vaashra. Bad doesn't quite describe it. Profit loss. Good lord my left arm hurts. I am not looking forward to an ER visit tomorrow.
The WIN: Putting Reinin to sleep? 1 waylay from Scindo. Disenchanting his stiches? 1 disenchant item from Ari. Removing a few yards of thread? 10 seconds with a knife. Regrowing the missing parts? 2 regenerate limbs for Ghorig. Total time spent? Less than 1 minute. Realizing that helping others who are struggling can make living with the darkness that much easier? Priceless. In short, Vaashra doesn't feel like a soul lacking killing machine anymore, and things are looking up. |

[Nov. 15th, 2009|08:55 pm] |
Hey all, Reinen here. I had a fantastic time at Magestry and wanted to make sure everyone knew how appreciative I was of everyone who was there. A great big thank you to all the mods who let me join and were so lenient with my character ideas, and to the players for putting up with me, even if I am a dirty little frankenstien. A special thanks to those of you who watched out for poor little Reinen as he got walloped by undead, elementals, trolls, skeletons, ghosts, baby-killers, berserked townsfolk, time creatures, wild men and anything else that got the best of the poor little construct; and dragged his dying ass out of danger. You awesome people know you you are. ;o
Another huge thanks to the people who helped teach me stuff in game, and everyone who helped with costume suggestions and make-up application.
I am definitely coming back next event, and hope to see each and every one of you in March. Now if you'll excuse me; I have to shuffle off. I've got a vineyard to help rebuild. ~Reinen

| Child's Play - New Hampshire |
[Nov. 6th, 2009|11:34 pm] |
Hey everybody!
Some of you may remember last year, when Graham Sternberg went about collecting money for the New Hampshire Game-A-Thon charity for Child's Play. Well, Graham is a chump and I am calling dibs on you cats and kittens for donations.
For those of you who have no clue what I'm going on about, this page here explains what Child's Play is. Basically, you will be giving me money (by the hour or as a donation) to play board games, card games, and video games for 24 hours straight, up in the good old state of New Hampshire. That money then goes to buy games and toys for sick kids with prolonged hospital stays.
So seriously, if you guys can give anything at all (one dollar, five dollars, anything), please consider doing so. Last year, 14 nerds raised over $2100 and no lie, Magestry was one of, if not *the*, biggest contributors. You guys were amazing!
If you have any questions or want to sign up, you can either comment here or email me (commonboy AT gmail DOT com). You won't have to pay up until afterward (this shin-dig happens on the 21st), but I will happily take donations beforehand.
This is a totally rock-star opportunity for us geeks to do something great for kids who will really appreciate it. Please consider helping out.
- Mike Faulk
EDIT: Additionally, Magestry will give you guys 1 BP per dollar donated. NPC's can hand out their BP to the player of their choice. That's like...extra giving! |

| Info Gathers! |
[Oct. 25th, 2009|09:59 pm] |
Hi all!
Though we are aware that your info gathers and travels and the like are not due until Friday the 6th of November, we have a request for you all.
We ask that you get your info gathers in as soon as you know what they are. A lot of you already do this, and be sure that we are very very grateful for this.
But why do we ask this of you?
Well, the answers we give you can be much better thought out, applicable, and helpful if we have more time to do it and when everyone waits until the last possible second Friday night to send them in, we are left with a very scary pile of info gathers, requests, and travels that we can't answer in the quality we'd like.
So please please please, if you find yourself with a couple of minutes and haven't done so already, log onto the database and get your info requests in!
And while you're there, write your PEL!
Thanks!
-Your faithful plot-writers and GMs! |

| Good/Bad |
[Oct. 18th, 2009|10:07 pm] |
Since I'm incredibly tired and can't think straight, it is the perfect time to make a post about my highlights of the game.
Good---there was so much. --Looking for souls with Eraku and Osirus during court. Hanging out with them a bunch was fun. --The usual shinanigans. --Meeting Ursa and doing a jig for him. Although, I had wanted to chest bump him when he walked in and I totally forgot. --Dictating angry letters to Rakesh and then Rakesh dictating his nice one back and giving me his shining armor potion. --The hilarity that ensued with Methias inbetween Jack and Emily on the couch, Ali and Tamlin on top, and Lilly falling on us. --The stories with Stormy Pete, everyone on the couch, Osirus and Neveah. ---Bestoments!!! Thanks Methias, Ghorig, Ali, and Vincent for all the armor fixings, spell protections, and great healths. --Getting killed in the woods by Duncan for another stupid ritual, but at least we had the best company. --Selling a word to Magento and then him not being around to tell it to Byron. --All the yummy warm food and drinks at the gambling hall---thanks again guys! --Hated enemy undead FTW :) --Being silly at the wedding dinner with everyone and trying to slow clap. --Telling stories about Lilly and Vincent---someday everyone in the town will have one..... --Devlin coming back around and us actually figuring out what is wrong with him/ kinda --Story Queen stuff/ if any of that comes true....hahahaha. --Sitting in the dirt and playing with sticks = all fae do. --Zeal and Evie masks, and how silly they were acting. --Beserker Raging in the demon mod while everyone was healing (especially Magento) and armoring me. Seriously, I was soooo tired by the end of that, I just wanted to pass out for real. --Everyone liking the cookies, even though they got a little burnt and were hard from the cold.... "Emily, you just went from blood thirsty killer to passing out cookies---yeah, I'll have one." --Hernando catching on to everyone LOLs!! --Sexy Guard with some unlikely people. If you're walking next to it, you're part of it. --Ghorig keeping Emily warm before dinner. Emily has never been so happy.
I'm sure there's more. I really can't think of it though. The Npcs did an awesome job. I had so much fun and was always doing stuff.
I don't really have any bad besides poor Myk being sick to his stomach all Saturday. Can't wait 'til the cold that will be next game. |

| Module Ettiquite |
[Oct. 18th, 2009|07:53 pm] |
FACT: Modules are a lot of fun.
They get us PCs excited and enthusiastic and all manner of ramped up. There's tons of danger, awesome plot connections, and (let's face it) quite often sweet rewards to be found.
All this is great except for the fact that, much like a delicate flower or an elderly scholar, modules are fragile beasts! In fact, sometimes they're even a little too fun and make otherwise responsible players act a little sloppily.
So here's just a few things to keep in mind while on a module....
•CONTROL - Careful swings and the 1-second between strikes rule are probably the most important in a mod. Aside from being generally good practice, combatants feed off of one another. As you begin to strike more frantically at an opponent, they match your energy. Does this make fights a little tougher? Well, yeah. But wide strikes that clip walls can be devastating, not to mention the fact that you are in close quarters with many other friends (and foes) which make accidental headshots that much more common. Controlling the energy of a fight is doubly important for shield carriers! The times I have seen a rendezvous between face and shield have all been in mods.
•MOVEMENT - Try not to go crazy running. Crashes are horrible without real walls to stop us. This generally leads to all sorts of unsafe times, not to mention the destruction it can cause when a wall or two gets pulled down. Running is not the only way to role play fear and not the only defense against a foe that is overcoming you. The less PCs pursue monsters by running, the less monsters in a mod will pursue PCs by running.
•BACKPEDDLING - Sure, when Saedius and the Wolf Lord are tag-teaming you in a hallway, retreat may seem the best option. Look before you leap: literally. This is one of the easiest ways to not only bring down walls, but hurt other people who may be laying down or just behind you. (author: Mike Faulk)
•DEATH! - Similar to running, in the destruction it can cause, be extra super careful when you fall down. It's NOT bad role playing to glance to your left and to your right (like crossing the street) before lowering yourself down to be unconscious. Save the dramatic Emmy-winning performances for the open air. This also gives you a second to find a place to fall that is not in the middle of four hundred battle-raged garlicy constructs, but off to the side by a foot or two so you won't have to get trampled.
•BERSERKER RAGE - If you just gotta use it, you need to be extra-extra-extra-super-duper careful. This really encompasses all three of the above, and warranted some honorable mention.
•WALLS FALLS - Even with the above, accidents happen and sometimes walls fall. Don't rush an NPC who takes a moment to try to fix a wall. And in fact, PCs and NPCs alike should really work together to help repair. It might take away from a hot pursuit, but if you're after an enemy and trip over a sheet and pull a wall half down, turn back and help fix it. The baddie will be there later. Try to be attentive and if you break it, help fix it if you can. Everyone wants the mod to keep going and everyone wants it to be a realistic and cool experience, and just making these repairs quickly helps this happen. Don't go with the "someone else's problem" mindset.
•WALL'S BALLS - Okay, so this has nothing to do with balls. But it does have to do with swinging and peeking around corners. The walls in a module, except under rare circumstances, are supposed to be solid objects. Even though you can use your hand to pull a sheet to the side, it's bad role playing to be doing it with what is supposed to be a stone wall (unless you're Lintessa or The Hulk). The same goes with trying to swing a weapon around a corner, which is an even different kind of bad because if you can't see your target, you probably shouldn't be swinging a weapon at it. You might hit your opponent in the balls. There, we've come full circle.
•VOLUME - Just because you are closed into a tiny space, you don't have to start screaming all of your skills at the top of your lungs. For spells, sure, go for it, not necessary, but maybe your character wants to calmly spout Paralyzes and Finger of Deaths because he is an old man who doesn't wear pants. Maybe you're a pissed off Shadowman(cer) who wants everyone to know he just ruined someone's day. For your combat skills (disarm, shatter, etc) and weapon enchantments (magic crit 2, etc) NO ONE needs to hear you except for the person you are hitting ... As long as the person you are targeting with an ability can hear you, it's loud enough. (author: Ryan Cahill)
If there's anything else that I'm obviously missing, please feel free to chime in! The moral of the story is that we're all here cause we all like the same game and all want to have fun with each other. So, you know, together we can all form up like Captain Planet and stuff to save the world from pollution and... uh... what are we talking about here?
EDIT: If your comment didn't show up because it was "screened" that's not because I wanted some 1984 control on information. It was just because I don't know how to use LiveJournal because, as Mike said, I always get stuck with Heart. |
