Sorry Everyone [Jul. 2nd, 2009|03:35 pm]
greyman000
*** PLEASE DO NOT ERASE ***

The time has come to explain myself and to apologize for disappointing everyone at Magestry. I wish there was an easier way of doing this, but right now I believe this is the only way.

When Melanie and I first came to Magestry 5 years ago it was for the single purpose of escaping the trials and tribulations of the real world and to have fun together as a couple who very much loved and enjoyed each other's company and wanted to share our passion for roleplaying together. Melanie became Suki which many of you know is very much Melanie to a tee, and playing Suki has given her the chance to be her true self and do the things she so desires of in real life.

I on the other hand became Will Grey (aka Billy Blackfinger), down and out rogue turned wanna-be hero. Will walked the line between trying to be a good man worthy of the love of the woman of his "dreams" and returning to his old ways as a scoundrel pirate who did what he had to to survive (regretting every innocent life he took in his youth and seeking redemption for his evil ways). Billy Black finger was a bad man who had done bad things to good people. Will Grey was a man held back by guilt, a prisoner of his own short comings, and lacked the strength needed to overcome them. All he ever wanted was to be a good man, to be noble and to be respected by his peers and loved and admired by all. Sadly, he failed at everything he ever tried and eventually loss his "will" to live. In the end he lost everything including Suki, beautiful, sweet, kind-hearted Suki, and after that all he sought for was death.

Good man turnd bad then tries to be good again and ultimately fails. Ironically, as I roleplayed this fictional character I was also living out the exact same scenario in the real world.

Once I was a good person, but somewhere along the line I failed and became the person most of you have come to know. I am NOT who you think I am. I have been a very bad and worthless person these past 10 years and it has cost me everything I hold dear. My loss is total with no chance of ever getting back that which is most important to me...Melanie Ashman.

When I turned cast back in February I knew it would be a big mistake. My plan was that this year was going to be my last one larping, and afterwhich I was going to retire and turn my attention back to my life and the woman I loved. Grow up as it were. If I only could have foreseen the grave mistake I was making. All I wanted was to bring to life some things that would make Magestry a better game and to bring a little fun and joy into all your lives. I knew it would come at a cost, but I never guessed just how much. In my yearning to create these "gifts" I became obsessed and lost sight of what was really important, even after I promised her I wouldn't. I failed to keep my promise and now I must suffer for my blind stupidity.

My failure has been long in the making, but I'm not going to go into details. I know exactly now what I've been and what I've done, or rather not done. All I want to say now is how sorry I am to all of you for not being the real me. I am sorry that I must disappoint so many of you by telling you that I most likely will not be returning to Magestry (at least not until I become a better person). I wish there was an easier way to do this so none of you had to continue to be affected by my failure. There isn't.

I do ask that you please do NOT blame Melanie for any of this or think she has done anything wrong. She has only done what she had to, and I don't blame her. If she hadn't I would have dragged her down with me. So long I have held her back and prevented her from growing and finding happiness. It is entirely my fault and I am the one who must now pay for it. Melanie is one of the best people any of you will ever get a chance to know. Don't ever think differently of her!

I hope some day I will have a chance to make up to you for all the wrongs I have done, and I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. I also understand if you don't.

I am sorry I failed you all, but mostly I am sorry Suki.

As expected: best and worst [Jun. 29th, 2009|02:38 am]

talbeans
This game had a lot of games in the game, and it seemed like a great deal of work for the people running it. Unfortunately, most people were leaving or had left by the end, so we didn't give a big hand to the npcs and gms.
Anywho.
My favorite parts:
-I liked how we got to call things 'games' and gms were called 'game masters' a few times for the games. It added a nice touch of irony.
-The bard competition. I was very happy to see so many people sing so many pretty songs.
Lex surprised me with her song, and I really liked it. I hope to hear it again sometime.
Deste sang very nicely, and the song was in Japanese. Unfortunately, it made me oog want to ask Zak what Deste was saying the whole time, and by the end of game I forgot to :P
-Drum circleish thing was fun especially afterwards with the pie song.
-Overall playing a lot of music with my dad, toner, scott and people and being layed back.
-All of the delicious food people brought and made. Thanks everyone.
-TableTurtle
-Staying up 'til the end in the chaos fight. Yeah Emily, Deste and Lilly!
-Hanging out with ghorig a lot and being able to kill three elementals even after the scindo thing happened. Go us!
-getting to use my hated enemy on friday night was spify and getting marbles from that.
-Getting patches with a crit4 :-) and being on a winning team for that.
-The riddle competition was fun and so was the word dissasociation. But that game is sooo much harder in game, because you have to not only think of a word, but one that is magestry appropriate, which i kept not doing. State names, machinery, and weapons kept coming to mind.
-I just generally liked all the little on going collecting things happening during the competitions.

Not so favorite parts:
-People getting too competative/agressive/whiney
-Going into game barely over a flu and having a really sore throat the whole time.
-Myk putting his poopy boots in the tent and stinking up the tent all game.
-Slugs!!!
-TJ managing to get a stick into his foot and bleeding everywhere. I felt really bad that it took him out of most of the competitions, because he was imobile. He took it really well though. And I'm glad ghorig was on our team to deal with it too. Get better soon, TJ. I have your cursed boot btw, if you want it for a souvenir.
-A lot of people having to leave early sunday.

Worst thing ever:
-The reason I am up at 3 in the morning is that my wonderful cat decided she had to pee everywhere. We washed my sheets thinking she just hit myk's and my bed, only to find an hour ago that she got mark's bed too. So, I have to wait until 4am to get mark's laundry. Being really cute and fluffy has saved that cat's life many a time now. I can't wait to go to sleep.

Advocate Percival Says: Tenting Is For Noob Sauce [Jun. 28th, 2009|10:06 pm]

So what's the what for those of you willing to forsake the amenities of not only running water but ALSO a roof over your heads? These are things I must know. Who won the what. Was the stream everything I remember it being? Were the masks made of the awful? Was the law laid down? WORDS!

Also, I like posting for games I wasn't present at.

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to let folks know that dinner for this game is going to consist of many pizzas with various toppings (meat-eater and vegetarian friendly). We will not have a vegan option, so if cheese doesn't do it for you, then please make sure you bring something with you to have for dinner.

Thanks,

Greetings Magestans! If you click here you will discover volume 7, issue 4 of the newsletter, and just in time. This weekend, the event will be unlike anything we have done at Magestry before, and after many emails and a meeting that was way too long, we can finally give you some good details about it.

If your weekend is still free, then come down to the farm in Oxford, CT for the Magestic Games (the air there is cleaner than is was at the real Olympics). The prizes are outstanding: we don't think you will believe your eyes. Check out the newsletter.

Magestry Event At Schreiber's Farm! [Jun. 22nd, 2009|02:06 pm]

angebunnie
[mood | excited]

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to make a quick post regarding the summer event at beautiful Schryber’s Farm (the In-Game spelling) in Oxford, CT (see our website, www.Magestry.com for directions) for those of you who have never played there. Veterans and users of common sense (if any) feel free to add things that I may forget.

-         There are no buildings at our disposal, so make sure that you bring a tent for sleeping in (Unless you prefer to sleep under the stars and/or rain clouds with the bugs). **EDIT** Please keep large, and clearly OOG items like coolers and grills, valuables and electronic devices in your car.

-         Schryber’s Farm boasts tons of beautiful, twinkly fireflies, but it also is home to a bunch of other buggies as well, especially since there is a river flowing through it. Bug Spray and Sunscreen are key!

-         There is a shallow swimming Hole in the middle of a River that we can use, so bear that in mind when deciding on your costuming for the weekend. We are pretty lax about “period” swimwear, but if you can come up with something not so modern looking, then we will give you Kudos (Do they even make those anymore?).

-         We will have a Tent Tavern for all your hydration needs, and it will be stocked with plenty of water and drinks, as usual. However, it would still not be a bad idea to bring your own beverages with you.

-         Also, as is usual for any event, all meals, except for dinner on Saturday night, are your responsibility. Please make sure you come with food for yourself.

-         Summer events at Schryber’s Farm are known for having extreme weather. Please come prepared to deal with either very Hot or very wet (or both) weather.

-         Poison Ivy is a common plant at our beloved farm, so either dress accordingly and be wary or make sure you bring poison ivy specific washing stuff with you (Tecnu works for me!).

-         Just as an F.Y.I., we will only have use of one (possibly two) port-a-potties on the farm for our necessaries… Though because this is not terribly different from our own privies at Chesterfield, and because you guys are so hardcore, this shouldn’t be a big deal.

I’m excited for our summer game… Shryber’s is a fun and beautiful place for a LARP. Hope to see you all there!

Yours in Twinkly Anticipation,

Angela

NPCing's many wonders [Jun. 8th, 2009|10:06 pm]

redfreadom

Having just returned from a trek to the mysterious lands of NPCtopia, I figured I would see if I could appeal to others considering a similar trip.

Give NPCing a chance.  Really.  Its awesome.  I would never tell someone that they are wrong for their preference to PC over NPCing.  That is totally legit.  Magestry, after all, works very hard to cater to preferences (Truer words were never spoken).  However, if you have never NPCed because you are intimidated or think it would be boring you are way wrong. If at any point you would like to talk to me about what to expect when you NPC whether it be perm or temp, please feel free to do so.  I would love to tell you all about it.

Reasons to NPC include but are not limited to

Getting to know the people who NPC.  If you are anything like me, you are a little shy.  I have even missed awesome RP opportunities because I am too shy to do what my character would do.  Getting to know people on the other side will prove they aren’t scary.  Though Scott will sneak up on you.  Often.  And that’s terrifying.

Getting to know the other side of the game.  A lot goes into the game.  Let me say that again.  A LOT goes into the game.  You have no idea how much work goes into making sure we enjoy ourselves.  It still blows my mind.  When you take into account that they spend that much time on EVERY person, its unbelievable.  It grants me a certain sense of appreciation that I think helps me enjoy the game all the more.  I know that every plot I see geared towards me probably included hours upon hours of effort and that is pretty awesome.

Playing better.  It is not my intention to tell anyone how to play.  However, I will say the more you learn about how a larp functions, the more you can do to make it better for everyone involved including yourself.  The things you can do to improve your play are subtle but learnable.

I have heard many times that someone isn’t coming to game because they cant afford to PC.  That often surprises me.  I am not sure why they didn’t consider NPCing.  It really is a good time.  It is true temp NPCs have to work hard.  However, they also get to have a lot of fun.  Beyond all the reasons I already mentioned they often also get leeway to do what they want.

So please, if you cant afford a game or don’t want to go because you cant stay the whole time then NPC.  It is rewarding, fun and beneficial to yourself and the game.

So I am doing my usual poking around the web to distract myself from the responsible, grown up stuff I should be doing (like looking for a job so I can move back to CT... oops...) and I come across this image that made me laugh.

I need help on two in-game things [Jun. 4th, 2009|10:34 am]
mark_dey
1) In the vein of what Luther stated about helping others, it might be worth it if someone followed the goblins that scouted out Elmerton in preparation for a mass migration (the ones that pegged Rakesh as a 'goblin-hater'). If they come here, they'll die, but some of us might too. However, if we can get rid of whatever is threatening them, then that would be a helpful sort of thing to do. Anybody want to talk to goblins?

2) Rakesh saved some of the candy corn that Pickles (the Saturday night zombie hill troll) left on the ground in his wake. Are there any alchemists out there who would be willing to analyze it to try and find out why Pickles isn't just a normal undead? Or, is there anyone who would be willing to take it to Baron Windlock for analysis? I tried talking to the Sugar Plum Fae about him, but they just kept repeating that he was burned and dead and wouldn't hear anything different.

Public PEL Comments [Jun. 3rd, 2009|09:54 pm]

angebunnie
[mood | sick]

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to post my view on the Public PEL Comment section of the PELs for Magestry. I was one of the biggest pushers for a Public PEL section, because I thought it was a shame that PCs could not see when someone really enjoyed roleplaying with them. Now, I know that you can just tell someone when you see them OOG or whatever, but there are times when you are not able to do so, or when someone just feels too shy to tell another person face-to-face that they had a great time with them.
I am not saying that the sole purpose of the Public PEL should be to talk about your favorite players, but I think it would be nice if perhaps they were included... and remember, it's all anonymous, so as long as you don't put anthing particularly incriminating in there, no one will know.
Also, on that note, remember that if you are posting your favorite PCs or NPCs in the Public PEL section, make sure you do not put anything there that you do not want everyone to know... If you really enjoyed the interaction you had with the NPC who played the nobleman you asassinated, but don't want anyone to know that you're an asassin, don't put it in the Public PEL section: that's something for our eyes only.

Just my thoughts on things...

Not sure if you guys talked to Augustus but if you did shoot me an e-mail: dagodi3303@hotmail.com or post any questions and I can give you details if you'd like to join in the nature fun!

Magestry Elections. [Jun. 2nd, 2009|05:54 pm]

ninthcircle80
It is time, once again, to vote for the players that you think are most knowledgeable in the rules of the game, most exemplary maintainers of the Magestic atmosphere, best ready to aid other players in understanding those rules and holding true to that atmosphere, and best able to adequately represent you to the staff. Those are the duties of a Player Representative, and as eight of them are about to finish their terms, we are in need of six more.

Player Representatives are elected by PCs and NPCs alike to serve a term of two years, so the six people elected this summer will serve until the summer of 2011. Also, with the recent declaration of Peter Dey as a Permanent NPC, his position as Player Rep needs to be filled, so rather than electing 6 people, you will be able to select up to 7. The six people who receive the most votes will serve the normal 2-year period, and the 7th place winner will serve out the remainder of Pete’s term, which ends in the summer of 2010. Normally when a Player Rep steps down, his or her replacement is chosen by the staff, but because we are holding an election now, we decided to put the decision into your hands instead.

Permanent NPCs (list can be found at Magestry.com) and the following 5 players are not currently eligible for election:

Player Reps Until Summer of 2010

Eric LaBonte / Ghorig
Jamie Lundell / Kempochie
Myk Meyer / Jack Garren
Zak Smith / Ari
Lynn Strickrodt / Kel

However, the following Player Representatives are about to end their terms and are eligible for re-election*:

Player Reps Until Summer of 2009

Jen Austin / Tiki
Jarad Demick / Mathias
Sean Dey / Siegfried or Maget
Steve Hall / Kendrick
Tom Sadler / Helik
Graham Sternberg / Galynn
Dave Tanguay / Llewellyn “Lew”
Mark Vadney / Zeal

*Mike Kinnally is about to end his time as a Permanent NPC and is also eligible.

So, the polls are now open! Cast your votes for up to 7 people. You cannot cast more than one vote for the same person, but you are allowed to vote for yourself. If you cast more than 7 votes, your ballot will be discarded and you will be asked to vote again. If you cast less than 7, you cannot add additional votes later. Votes, once cast, cannot be changed.

The polls will close at the end of the day on Wednesday, July 1st, 2009. You may submit your ballot in writing or by email to Vote@Magestry.com. Either way, you must include your own name on the ballot so we know who it is from.

Exercise the only democratic right you have in this feudal monarchy. Vote!

Amazing Game [May. 31st, 2009|09:54 pm]

fyreleo
So even though things went a little fubar up at OPS this weekend at various points, we still managed to pull a great weekend out of our butts.  I want to give huge kudos to the other NPCs, for busting their butts all weekend to get the ridiculous number of plots off.  Couple of personal favorite moments I wanted to point out:

Making Erin cry.  Hard.  Completely in game.
Talking to Gaz, and understanding her 75% of the time.
After talking to Gaz for an hour, having to go build a mod because I could not stop answering questions in German.
DonuT Hole!
Umm.. Helik... So... we want to give you.... uh... have a kid! -runs-
Wunderbar!
Don't worry, little gypsy, I won't hurt you, I just want to talk...
Sneaking up on two new players, took me ten min to crawl ten feet through the underbrush, but jumping out at them from one foot away was priceless!
Givng three of the Watch a run for their money as a wildman... climbing things and running in the mud barefoot...
Almost finding out what arctic fox tastes like.

OK, now my cons...
12 splinters in one foot, 5 in the other... thats what I get for running around barefoot for hours....
Really fast costume changes at one point, wiping off green and yellow facepaint while pulling on my skirt with the other hand.
Not having any idea what was going on, at almost any point in game.
Forgetting some of my props at home.
Losing my red velvet shirt.
Leaving right after game, I wanted to help clean up and I wanted to spend some out of game time with people I have developed an In game fondness for.  Not going to the pizza place...

That's all for goods and bads I can think of at the moment.  I saw some awesome roleplaying and some great interactions.  Even the weather cooperated!  I had fun killing, fighting, flirting, and talking with all the PCs, and Thank you all, PCs and NPCs, for making this a great weekend.

Evernight Forest Once More? [May. 29th, 2009|05:24 am]

[mood | hopeful]

Magestans!
Boy howdy do we need your help! It seems as though the Evernight Forest might make its reappearance this event in Elmerton: We've ordered glow sticks, but they have not come in yet and... well, time is up! We are in desperate need of some glow sticks... the 6"-8" stick kinds, not the bracelets and necklaces. If we are to light our paths, dangerous obstacles, and our NPCs, we need your help. Please, if you can, pick up some glowsticks on the way to the game and we will reward you with beaucoup BP. Colors don't matter much, though we like our blues, greens, and yellows (red doesn't light the path much).
Thank you in advance!
