Losing hair!!! Help!
So recently I have noticed that a lot more hair than usual has been falling out... I'm literally brushing out little clumps of hair, and they come out in the shower, etc. I've also noticed that the actual strands themselves are thinner than is normal for my hair. It's really becoming an issue for me. I suspect that it may have something to do with my diet, which has been pretty poor lately, and also, I am a vegetarian, so that makes getting the protein I need a bit harder, especially now that I'm living back in my parent's house and can't control what foods are or aren't in the house. I haven't done anything particularly damaging to my hair in a while, so this is the only reason I can think of for why I am shedding so much.
Anyway, I plan on getting some biotin and starting on that, and also going on some type of "healthy eating" kick, and hopefully that will work.

So on to my question(s): Is there anything else I could do to improve the health of my hair? Should I be worried about a more serious problem? Also, what exactly is a protein filler and would that help? Could I do it myself, and would it change the color of my hair (which is dyed)?

Thanks in advance, I really need some help!!!

You pretty much answered your own question.
Being a vegitarian (while I respect) isn't that good for your health. Everyone needs a good balance of meats and vegitables in their diet.

Bioten does help howveer in hicken hair. So good luck.

Vegetarian isn't "bad" for your health. Any diet is bad if you don't pay attention to filling your nutritional needs!

I try and add nutritional yeast and wheat germ to a lot of things I eat; it replaces the b-12 and folic acid etc etc that you get from meat. I had the same problem with losing hair, but it was due to poor nutrition from an ed. You just have to force yourself to take vitamins and add supplements to your regular foods; it takes a while but your hair and skin will start to liven up!

first, there is nothing wrong with being a vegetarian. humans don't need meat to live. but when you aren't eating right, you'll start to lose your hair and feel like shit.

so to improve your diet, make sure you are taking in everything you need to take in. take a high quality multi vitamin, the store brand from GNC or whole foods is fine. if you need more ideas on yummy veggie food, buy a copy of laurel's kitchen (hippie berkeley food from the 70's), the moosewood cookbook, the enchanted broccoli forest, and rachel ray's 30 minute veggie cookbook.

don't forget to eat breakfast. it doesn't need to be fancy. when i'm in a hurry, i eat a peanutbutter and banana sandwich with a pot of tea (i wish i could drink coffee, stupid ulcer)

i sound like a broken record, but it is so important to eat correctly. don't let anyone tell you that it's not healthy to be a vegetarian. just like eating meat, you need a balanced diet. if you need any help with this stuff, just message me! i'm extremely passionate about dermatology.

i love getting on my soapbox and ranting about diet to the hot bitches at MRH. it's nice to know my 100k education is doing something other then injecting crap into rich people's faces.

boo yah! i recently went from prettymuchvegetarian to vegan and because I'm being super-conscious about what i'm eating i NEVER felt better. any diet or style of eating can be unhealthy if you're not paying attention, but adding meat does NOT=healthy.

Haha, thanks, it's actually only been only recently that I've noticed how crappy I've been eating, I've been a vegetarian for years. It seems to coincide with moving back to my parents' where no one else is a vegetarian and I can't afford to buy food so the only thing available for me to eat is carbs and fruit, and various unhealthy snacks. I just got a job though, so hopefully I'll be able to buy my own groceries soon.

definitely diet. happened to me when i couldn't eat due to stomach issues, i have never had it happen because of hair stuff like dye and heat styles...only because of diet.
I also had it happen when i was a veggie. From age nine to 23 i was veggie, and when i was young i ate well..before i learned how to eat correctly without meat my hair fell out..kind of a lot. I went to the dr's and he said it was diet. fixed that and never really had problems until i got sick more recently.
GOOD LUCK!

That, somewhat, happens to me, and I'm kinda lacking some iron, so maybe you should try an iron supplement, and/or go to your doctor.

if you get to fixing your diet to how it is ideal for you and still have problems losing your hair or thin hair, have your thyroid checked.
