- Losing hair!!! Help!

So recently I have noticed that a lot more hair than usual has been falling out... I'm literally brushing out little clumps of hair, and they come out in the shower, etc. I've also noticed that the actual strands themselves are thinner than is normal for my hair. It's really becoming an issue for me. I suspect that it may have something to do with my diet, which has been pretty poor lately, and also, I am a vegetarian, so that makes getting the protein I need a bit harder, especially now that I'm living back in my parent's house and can't control what foods are or aren't in the house. I haven't done anything particularly damaging to my hair in a while, so this is the only reason I can think of for why I am shedding so much.
Anyway, I plan on getting some biotin and starting on that, and also going on some type of "healthy eating" kick, and hopefully that will work.
So on to my question(s): Is there anything else I could do to improve the health of my hair? Should I be worried about a more serious problem? Also, what exactly is a protein filler and would that help? Could I do it myself, and would it change the color of my hair (which is dyed)?
