disk comparison
Could someone recommend a program that can compare the contents of two hard disks,
flagging non-redundant content,
so that I can tell what needs to be backed-up?

Bonus points if you can transfer files from within the program.

OS 10.3.9

the unix command line app "rsync" can do that. you'll have to do the work in terminal, and be on the more techy side, but it does the job well.

Second rsync. If you need bidirectional sync, unison.

SuperDuper!

My backup utility of choice.

They have an older version around for Mac OS X 10.3 or higher.
