When PeeCees just don't cut it
I saw this at a tram stop in Manchester (Trafford Bar). Just thought it was amusing so I thought I'd share it with you folks. Though I wonder how an ad like that helps their sales... .

AMDLies
An AMD in a Ti PowerBook G4?? I don't think so... .

I notice there's no apple logo on the back of that laptop.... interesting choices by AMD's ad department at any rate. I guess if they removed that logo, they didn't have to pay Apple anything for using an image of their machine.

They wouldn't have had to pay them if there was a logo.

If the Apple logo was still there then AMD would have to pay "the price."

Most people currently would never notice, but something so obvious to clue the clueless? Priceless.

Also, the keyboards on powerbooks (if I remember correctly) are silver, not black....

Mine's black like the one in the photo... maybe they're different by year, or by size?

On Ti PowerBooks, they were Black. Even the previous generation of G3 PowerBooks, they were black though with a slightly brownish tinge. As you correctly pointed out though, a muppet you definitely are. :-P

Recent switcher?

PowerBooks are the best looking portables and often get used in ads for PC/Windows-based machies and services. But you'll always notice the Apple logo will have been removed. This is a common occurance.

A case in point, that if I could put up the full sized picture, you'd be able to see clearly the Apple logo on the Apple command key (just next to the space bar). So can Apple Charge them?

one of my friends is an art director and he told me that when they are doing a photo shoot for various products they tend to use the stuff that's lying around the studio.
he says that most designers use macs where he is, so they wind up using apple laptops for almost every shoot, just mask out the apple logo when they photoshop the image in preporduction.
he says he likes that it is a kinda subliminal message.

There's a lot of instances of this happening in fairly amusing ways. Places that create stock photography often use Macs since professional photographers tend to have Macs. One of the most amusing ones was the default Microsoft security homepage at http://www.microsoft.com/security a few months back - it showed a woman smiling because she was secure, and she was using an iBook with the logo removed. Unfortunately it seems to be gone, now.

How do they not get the pants sued off them....???

Because there's no legal grounds to sue them? It's a stock photo. They can do what they want with it.

i have noticed in movies or tv shows when a powerbook is being used the logo is covered up. I just assumed that apple declined to pay them for the product placement costs, so the film maker or sitcom guys just cover up the logo.

Odd, I haven't noticed that one before; I can much more easily identify the times I've seen apple computers in movies... *shrugs*

most stock photography uses apple gear when thye need pics of comps.

the reason is that the creative professionals prefer the apple gear, because it looks better, as well as that's what they use themselves.

in men in black II they modified a version of OS X to fit a round screen and the dock curved round, it looked pretty cool, if i remember rightly :/
