data recovery
Hello,

i've really distressed myself. i deleted a folder full of writing, including some papers for grad school.

i need to know if there's any way to restore these files?

they were deleted within the past 2-3 days. i once had a mac specialist offer to recover my data from a failed had drive, so i know that at least is possible, but there is nothing wrong with my hard drive...i just chose to empty my trash which contained a folder i had mistakenly grouped with other folders i did want to remove.

i have a MacBook with Macintosh HD, OS X version 10.4.11... if there's any other information needed to help give me an answer, just let me know.

thanks,
Jack.

Don't know how well it works, it at all. Since it has been only a couple of days, there should be a good chance that you will get most of your files back.

And the less you use your computer between now and then better chance you have at recovery as they might not be overwritten yet.

The only problem is that OSX does automatic defragmentation, so it's possible that the space where the files where saved has be used. When you delete a file, the data still exists (for a while) and the record of its location is simply 'forgotten' so that space shows as available for use. So if you haven't been accessing the disk very much, there's a chance that it's still there. The best tool I've used by far for OSX is Data Recovery. It's not free, but it is definitely worth the price if you can spend a little cash.
