MAC Book Pro Power Question

I keep my unit plugged in most of the time and run off the power cord. My charge has been hovering around in the low- mid 80's for the past week or so.

I seems like its in perpetual charge.

Is there an issue with my battery? Am I doing something wrong in keeping it plugged in 24/7?

Thanks alot.

Safari .gif error?

I was going to try to live with this, but considering my lovely Flist have a habit of spamming my Friends page with .gif images (that's the moving kind), I come to seek help XD

I'm running the latest version of Safari on my MacBook. And whenever I try to scroll past a .gif image, it sort-of freezes up (could be for a few seconds or even up to a minute, or it just plain crashes) and the beach ball of doom appears. It's almost like it's trying to buffer the images and failing? I've checked all of my settings and can't see anything pertaining to this problem :| Anybody have any idea of what it is? Any help would be greatly appreciated <3 :)

Thanks!

Mac Messenger 7 problems

I can't sign into Microsoft Messenger 7 for Mac. It says that the service is not available or I'm not connected to the internet. It's been going on since April. I googled it and found that it has been a problem since 2008, but messenger was working fine for me. I tried using adium or amsn to sign on, but it still won't connect. Anyone have any solutions?

MBP Shipping Times

Has anyone ordered a MBP or really any other custom hardware from Apple lately? When I ordered it, it said it would ship in 7-10 business days. The ship date on the Order Status Page is 11 business days away. I was wondering if they do this to give themselves a saftey net (to underpromise and overdeilver) and if there was a fair chance it might ship a few days earlier.

Dammit!

I spilled water on my Macbook tonight near where the computer & monitor join. I turned it off & dried what I could. I have a hard shell on it & I got the bottom piece off easily.. The top piece is not coming off, though. I see a puddle of water underneath it, but can't get to it. I'm afraid of breaking it! What would you do?

EDIT: I finally managed to pry off the top piece of the shell, by prying loose one clip & then holding up the shell while I pried the other clip loose. Go me!

There didn't seem to be too much water on it. I'm leaving the shell off for awhile, just in case.

I just signed up for a Twitter account. I noticed I can view my Twitter as an RSS feed, so I figured I'd use Apple's RSS Visualizer screen saver. Alas, I cannot get it to work. I've tried copying and pasting the url from Safari as well as adding an RSS feed to Mail and then selecting that (note: it did show up in Mail). No matter what I do, the RSS Visualizer just doesn't show anything (other than the swirly background).

I have Googled this and used my own logic to no end, and I cannot get this to work. Anyone have any ideas?

DVD ripping software

What is the best software out there to rip DVDs to watch both on the laptop and the iPhone? Doesn't have to be freeware, just wanting something that works for both if possible.

Preview.app is for *previewing* things

Hi all, I haven't been following the community at all so this isn't in response to anything, just random venting:

Preview.app is not an image editor. Preview.app is not desktop publishing. Preview.app is not even for printing things. Believe-it-or-not, Preview.app is for *previewing* things, specifically PDFs. Its Stevenote demo was about how it can open a gigantic manual in less than half the time of Adobe Acrobat. Anyway, just something to keep in mind when you get all pissed at me for not being able to tell you how to do something in Preview.app that you should be using a commercial product for.

Deleting logins

I've combined a bunch of logins by moving all their files into one account. Obviously I don't want these files appearing twice on my HDD. If I simply terminate the logins from an admin login, will this clear up all the space?

After Dark Deluxe on Sheep Shaver?

After much rummaging through my garage I found my After Dark Deluxe CD (with After Dark 4.0 and the Star Trek Posters) with the idea of installing it on Sheepshaver. After restarting the program, it boots up and then abruptly quits. Ideas anyone? I'm running Mac OS 8.5 currently on Sheep Shaver btw.

I keep getting redirected..?

Hello everyone, I would appreciate any insight to this problem I am having.

Lately I've been getting redirected to this website: http://www.wsearch.net/
It's been happening more and more now and I cannot access specific websites I'd like to go to. For instance, I wanted to access Craigslist and every time I click on a province it takes me to this website instead.

It's getting very frustrating and I am not sure what to do!

Help? :S

Overheating

Hi!

My Macbook overheats. It won't go to sleep properly, then overheats and I normally have to wait until the battery drains and it cools down. So I took it into the closest Apple store, where the Genius recommended that I use my original disks to archive and re-install the OS. Got home, and discovered that while I'm sure I have the disks, I cannot find the disks. Where can I get replacement disks or is it better to obsessively rip apart my house to find them again?

macbook internet problems

My aluminum macbook is refusing to connect to the internet and I'm not sure why. My iBook G4 connects and works just fine but I'm having problems with my macbook - it just started all of a sudden, with no warning so I'm pretty confused.

My macbook will connect to my wireless network (it'll show that it has picked up a strong signal in airport) but won't load the internet. I went into internet connect/network preferences to see if there was any difference between my macbook and ibook and my ibook has a router address listed where as my macbook doesn't. In Network Diagnostics it says that the ISP and internet has failed, but I don't know how to fix that.

basically idk what to do. help? thank you!

Iphone multiple language support

I regularly send text messages in multiple languages, and so I leave the automatic fill-in dictionaries off on my current phone (an old Motorola) so that I don't get stuck in just one language's dictionary. But someone told me recently that the iPhone automatically recognizes which language you're typing in and uses the proper dictionary to offer you words. Is that really true that this happens without manually switching dictionaries? If it is, then I'm going out tomorrow and buying an iPhone! That would make my text-messaging so much easier.

I'm cutting this as it's only relevant to anyone who's using their Mac for web-dev (which may be everyone, I don't know.) I have some questions about the process and about security issues that I'm hoping people can help me with or point me in the direction of an answer.

Apache, PHP, MySQL, oh my! )

Thanks for any help - it's much appreciated.

updating to OS X 10.5.7 ?

Will someone please tell me how I can update to OS X 10.5.7 ? I'm currently on 10.4.11 and I am basically clueless as to how to upgrade. Nothing comes up about it in the Software Updates. Can I download it from somewhere? Do I need to buy something? :\

Edit: okay so I need Leopard first. Does anyone know if it would be possible to skip Leopard and upgrade straight to Snow Leopard once it comes out? (I'm pretty sure mine does have an intel processor)

Edit: questions answered. thanks you guys.

Can anyone tell me how this happened and if I can fix it?

The pictures are still in the folder but when I open iPhoto theres nothing. I haven't done anything with iPhoto besides upload a few pictures the other day. I have a couple thousand pictures so it would be nice to be able to use it. How did this happen and why? Can I fix it?

External Backup Drives with Lock Slot?

I've browsed Amazon and NewEgg, and am having trouble figuring something out. I'm hoping someone in the community might have some insights.

I'd like to get an external drive to back up data on my work machine. However, given their very nature, external hard drives are fairly portable and I don't want my backup to go walking. Are there external drives that have a Kensington lock slot or something similar? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!
