Any ideas on what I can do?

Yes, I sent an error report to Apple, but I don't expect them to swoop in and save me.

I migrated from my MBP to the new MB, but have encountered an interesting situation when trying to sync my iphone.

There is at least one application I have that was removed from the app store - the Google voice app - that I don't want to lose. Any idea how to migrate and sync with my new computer without losing it on the iPhone? The first time I tried syncing with the new computer, it allowed the sync but deleted almost all of my applications. I've since gone down and re-synced the phone with my old laptop, thus restoring all my applications, but if at all possible, I don't want to have to do that again.

Any ideas on a hack to bring my purchased and free applications from the old computer to the new one?

I recently bought an indigo iBook clamshell off of eBay and received it yesterday. The battery seemed fine at first, I was able to charge it and run the iBook off of the battery, so I went about upgrading the RAM, and installing OS9 and OS X panther, and everything was fine. Then, later on, I disconnected the power cord and the whole thing just loses power. I thought this was odd considering the battery was fine holding charge earlier, so I plugged the power cord back in, switched the iBook back on and had a look at the battery meter in OS X, to find it displaying the message "calculating... until full". I then proceeded to look up the problem on Google, and went through resetting the PRAM, PMU and NVRAM, but the battery still resolutely refuses to charge :( The light around the power jack goes green when the power cord is first inserted, then after a few moments turns orange, as if the iBook is trying to charge the battery, and it stays that way the whole time the iBook is on and after i turn it off until I remove the power cord again. Its rather annoying now since I have to keep resetting the time and date every time I use the iBook :( I'm thinking I have a dead battery on my hands here (is it possible for them to just go like that?), or maybe there's something wrong with the power board? I don't know anyone else with a clamshell so I can't test it with a different battery.

P.S. I should also note that the iBook will run on just AC power without the battery installed, which OS X then displays a cross in the battery icon.

Sorry for the long winded post but I wanted to try and explain it as fully as I could.

How do I edit the parts under "More info" easily without having to use iTunes to do so?
It is a headache when there are tons of music that doesnt show up properly.
Is there any way to do so like how it can be done in Windows?
It's all "?????" whenever I play the mp3 with vlc.

So I'm holding on to my mobileme account for a bit longer as I like the iphone interface rather well, but I have a question for any other remaining mobileme members or anyone who might have a clue.

Maintaining info can be challenging, so I'd like to set up a way to let family update their information with me that is quick, easy, and relatively painless.

It is a long shot, but have any of yall heard of a function that will allow family to enter their contact information then allow you to review it and import it into your addressbook? Am I overthinking this and missing on a better function or process? I'd really like a one-stop contact info shop that I can send folk to, but am not even sure if I'm asking the right questions.

Any ideas?

I have a five-year-old iBook G4. It's been upgraded several times, runs Leopard and generally has no issues. Lately, however, it has frequently failed to recognize external drives when I plug them in. For example, I tried to back up an important file on my thumb drive and it doesn't show up in the finder, but it does on the desktop. I can't do a "save as", but I can save to the desktop, then manually drag it onto the thumb drive icon.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? How do I get the finder to recognize thumb drives?

Virus?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Book Girl
I apologize if this question has been asked before but I'm really worried about my new macbook possibly having a virus.

I was surfing the net using Firefox and I randomly received a pop-up claiming that my computer had a virus and needed to be scanned. It gave me the option to click "Ok" and I automatically knew it was probably just a spyware scam site so I tried to exit out but it wouldn't let me. I had to force quit Firefox in order to make the pop up go away. After clearing my history I quit Firefox and opened Safari and later on I received the same pop-up and I ended up having to force quit again.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've recently switched from PC to Mac and I've been told that it's more difficult for Macs to pick up viruses but after today's incident I'm really worried. :(

Thanks.

A little something I saw on the local new a couple nights ago....

And they say that this isn't the first time someone robbed this store. Guess someone couldn't wait to get their hands on the iPhone. LOL

I've had this MacBook for a month now & something's confusing me.

When I launch the HD it give me this thing that says how many items are in that window and how much GB is available. Now I have the factory installed 2GB memory and 160 GB hard drive in this bad boy but when I open the HD or my "home" folder, it says I have anywhere from 1.4 to 2 GB available.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

QuickPost Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

Now I know there's no way I could of filled a 160 GB hard drive in a month....I mean, my last Mac had a 10 GB drive and even after 10 years (when the thing FINALLY died), I still didn't have it filled. So what exactly is that figure I circled? Is that like in Classic where it showed you how much space you have left on the drive or is that how much unused memory there is?
recently, the trackpad has suddenly decided to randomly stop letting me click on things. the cursor still moves around and nothing else is frozen minus the fact that that it won't let me click on things anymore. it ALWAYS happens after i set the computer aside for a second and then come back, and ~poof~ it's frozen. the only way i've found to fix this is to shut down the entire computer, and it's getting to be a little ridiculous.

any ideas on what this could be? should i call apple, or am i doing something retarded?

My friend just got a new macbook pro after having a PC for a while and so all of his music is on his itunes library on his PC and I remember using a program after I first switched over that took all the music from my iPod to my new mac and I completely forgot the name of the program but was hoping that someone here would know what I'm talking about?

What is the name of this program? It was completely free and transferred my music from my PC iPod to the new macbook!

August 5th, 2009

Hi, I just got my imac and there are some questions..
pardon me if they sound really stupid because I had been a windows user before switching to mac.

1. Is there a way to open a folder inside a folder in another window?

2. Is there a way to show the path of the files I'm looking at? so that i know where they are...

3. where are programs installed in?
under the macintosh HD?
Can I put them in "library", then drag the icon into "Applications"?

4. Sometimes, when you download a program, it has this drag it to the "Applications" folder instruction. That means installing into application right? And after dragging it into application, can I delete the download from the "Downloads" or "desktop"?

5. How do I make a partition in the harddisk?
I want to keep my files in a separate partition and not just under the default folders like "documents", "movies", "music", "pictures". Is there a way to do it?

For some reason when I clicked on Safari [Version 4.0.2] this morning the bar at the top under the url where all my bookmarked sites are was NOT there. Wth?! I tried going to preferences and click show all bookmark bar but it just bought up a list on the side and a coverflow display on the right. How can I get my bookmark bar back on the top? Thanks in advance!

July 19th, 2009

Greetings!

First let me say that I am not, by any means, very computer/tech savvy. I love using Mac and Apple, but most of the stuff I do is very basic. I don't have an interest in learning how to do more complicated things, just because I don't have time for it, but my lifestyle just doesn't involve using computers for anything much beyond email and word processing.

So, that said, I am in need of a reliable and fairly easy to use DVD burning program. I have an Intel iMac, OSX 10.5.7. The main thing I am looking for is the ability to burn films, so, video DVDs. This is for backing up my personal collection, btw, so please don't lecture me about copyright stuff. I can't afford to replace DVDs all the time if they end up damaged, and many of them are not that cheap (lots of foreign, old, or just hard to find stuff). So I'd like to be able to keep my collection without having to become crazy and anal-retentive about my DVDs.

I was looking at Toast 10, but the reviews are either extremely positive or extremely negative. And I can't afford to spend that kind of money on a program that ends up being unreliable and unpleasant. One review said Toast 9 was a lot better...?? Toast is the only program I've heard about from a few people, so I have no idea what other programs out there are considered good.

I don't mind having to spend around $100 if I have to for a good program, because it will be worth it to me.

One really important feature, though, is that I need it to be able to include subtitles, because a lot of my films are foreign, and I will not watch dubbed versions.

Also, I got an older, free version of Mac the Ripper, since a friend recommended that one, and I've ripped a couple of my DVDs, to get the hang of using it - files are just sitting on my HD right now - but I'm not sure if it's a good program to use, especially for foreign. (Maybe I just don't know how to use it, though??) I am having to rip the entire DVD in order to get the subtitles. Is there a way I can just rip the main feature + subtitles, but none of the other stuff? My worry is how I'm going to fit everything on a DVD when I burn it. Or, is that something I can take care of in the DVD burning program? I don't mind if I should instead purchase a better ripping program, so recommendations on that are most certainly welcome.

I'm sorry if all this seems really basic and elementary. I'm very new to this kind of stuff, so I have little clue what I'm doing.

I am really hoping to not have to go through several steps in order to back up these films - a bit of Googling around got me scared that I'm going to have to either give up, or invest massive amounts of time learning a whole bunch of stuff before I can do this.

Any help and recommendations is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

hey guys

I have a problem and I'm hoping you guys can help. I've been away at college and I've had my own wireless connection and it worked fine but when I came home yesterday to my parents house the connection here has been really weird to me.
My airport says its connected to the wireless connection we have here but when I try to load a website it doesn't work.
My connection at college and the connection at my parents are with the same companies and there's nothing I can think of doing to fix it. I really don't want to be stuck in one place with the cable.
Can anyone help me?
