MOOOOOTA!
hey guys

I have a problem and I'm hoping you guys can help. I've been away at college and I've had my own wireless connection and it worked fine but when I came home yesterday to my parents house the connection here has been really weird to me.
My airport says its connected to the wireless connection we have here but when I try to load a website it doesn't work.
My connection at college and the connection at my parents are with the same companies and there's nothing I can think of doing to fix it. I really don't want to be stuck in one place with the cable.
Can anyone help me?

so basically. airport says i'm connected but i cant load webpages

Java 6 on 32-bits?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
fall 2008
I'm a Java language hobbyist and I like programming my little tools and also try new language/API features.

But so far, all the Java6 Developer Previews are for 64-bit systems only. Knowing Apple, this seems to indicate that they're not supporting 32-bits when it becomes final (on Snow Leopard?)

This is the main reason why I'm tempted to buy a new iMac and sell my current one (almost 3 years old now but in good shape) on eBay.

What is your feeling about the chances of Apple dropping 32-bit support for Java?

iTunes help

Does anyone know a good replacement for iTunes?
I am currently using VLC and not enjoying the lack of features that I'm used to in iTunes.
I need a replacement not out of want, but out of need. iTunes constantly freezes up my whole computer when it tries to change the track. It's not even on random or anything, it's being garbage.

I'm not interested in going in and fixing the code, so there's my story!
Any help?

Almost forgot to mention I'm running OSX 10.5.7 PPC (not Intel)

Resolved, am now using Audion

so a few weeks ago, my macbook decided to do something strange and reset itself to factory settings. i don't know what happened to make it do that, but it's been perfectly fine every since. minus the fact that it deleted all my widgets and a few programs.

i can't for the life of me remember the name of this program that allowed me to change the color of folders. it was a super easy one, and it wasn't candybar. i found it on the apple website, and i've been through the download pages looking for it, but to no avail.

does anybody know the name of it, by any chance?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a good free file recovery program that I could use. My iphoto is no longer working and I accidentally deleted my iphoto library in April. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

iphoto 09

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
sooo i am putting my photos into iphoto 09 for the first time now that i have my imac.

i went through and deleted like 100 photos by "show file" and "put in trash" options. i emptied both my trash can on the computer AND iphotos trash can. i deleted all the remaining photos from iphoto and re-imported them.

well..all those 100 photos were back! even tho all the files when i went "show file" showed up in a ".trash" folder!!

what's going on? it was stressful enough to have to go through and delete all these photos i thought i had done last summer...but a second time?!

Internet

So there's this ongoing issue with my Macbook (which may be a common thing, I'm not sure). Obviously, I can wirelessly connect to internet. The only issue is that there are times (mostly when I'm at home) when my wireless connector will pick up on surrounding wireless networks from neighbors, freak out, and not know which thing to connect to. Even if I click on MY network from the dropdown menu.

Is there a way to prevent this freak-out?

I noticed something a little weird about my Macbook today. I'd left it on with utorrent and Twitterific running before I went to do something else. When I returned, the screen was "off," which happens when you aren't doing any work. I pressed a button on my keyboard to "turn on" the screen again and I saw utorrent open on the desktop, which was to be expected. However, right after that, the screen blacked out again just for a second before it turned on to show a new message from twitter. Is something wrong with my laptop or is that just normal?
Mine is a white Macbook basic with OS 10.5.2 and it was running on battery.

Hey! It's time for a new laptop, and I'm looking around and doing some research.

I think I'd like to make the switch over to MacBooks (I want a 17in MacBook Pro) but I'd like a few more opinions about them first.

So I know next to nothing about computers -- my current laptop is a glorified music box with an internet connection.

Those of you who have a Mac -- how is it? Do you like it? Do you have problems with it? Do you need a degree in computer sciences to be able to work one? How long should I expect a MacBook to work well before I have to replace it? Do you find that they're sound investments, financially?

I can't imagine what I might need all the bells and whistles for, except that I don't want to get to a point where I might need them and not have them. My main uses for a computer at this moment are to write and surf the internet and listen to music. Every now and then I'll watch movies, too.

Did any of you have a hard time switching from PC to Mac? I hear they don't have a lot of compatible software made for Macs -- truth or fiction?

Come on, guys. Somebody tell me something! What am I missing?

internet

after i get my tax return and put $250 on my credit card..I'm going ahead with the purchase of a iMac from the apple store.

the main computer in my house is a PC Desktop my roomie has set-up in our living room. our internet goes through that computer and then we have a wireless router for the rest of the house that myself(macbook), another roomie(ibook), the roomie with the PC in the living room(pc laptop) and our roomie downstairs(pc) uses to connect to the internet in our rooms.

will i have to buy an airport to connect the iMac to our wireless? if i can save the $200 and instead put that towards paying off my credit card after i make this purchase..that would be epically awesome. otherwise i'm looking at not being able to hook my iMac up to the internet for at least 4 months!

Hey! I have a question. I"m looking for a cheaper mp3 player than an ipod for the time until I get an iphone (in june). What I need has to be mac compatible and I found one website that the SanDisk Sansa Clip is mac compatible (http://www.anythingbutipod.com/compare/players/sandisk-sansa-clip
) but on another (the sandisk SITE ) that it isn't. Does anyone have this MP3 player? Anyone know if it REALLY is mac compatible???

I recently deleted all the zip folders I had of music. of course I kept all of the unzipped files in place. I thought it wouldn't mess with my library but now a ton of my music is saying it can't be played because the files can't be located. all I did was delete the zip! how can I quickly fix this?

and somehow I also unchecked all of my songs. is there a "check all" option somewhere?

thanks for any help.

Airport not working?

So yesterday when I was at home my wireless in my aluminum macbook spontaneously could not see or connect to our wireless network (apple router and all). I know this problem was on my end because the two other computers in our house were connected just fine. After trying everything I could think of I restarted the router and this seemed to correct the problem. I went to a different house later in the day and connected to that wireless without incident. Problem is, now that I'm on campus, I can't connect to the university's wireless either. Obviously problem is on my end; everyone else around me is connected just fine. I have connected via cable in order to get on at the moment...but I'd like to solve the problem. It's weird, to me, since it's so sporadic. Any ideas for what this could be?

Auto Buddy Icon 1.0

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Out to Lunch
[info]xv and I came up with an AppleScript that either captures your iSight or USB camera or your currently playing album art in iTunes and sets that as your iChat buddy icon. Most the hard work capturing the image was his. I wrote most of the error handling and program flow.

Download Auto Buddy Icon 1.0 from my iDisk public folder.

Version 1.0 requires downloading and installing the isightcapture CLI program to the ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/iChat folder. If you know a GNU GPL or FOSS method of capturing a frame from a webcam on a Mac, I'm welcome to suggestions.

If you have problems, errors, or want help, please come to me first for support.

Id like to be able to have RSS feeds, post-it-notes/sticky notes, and other such crap on my desktop.
But in a particular fashion: Not in a window, just text sitting on my wallpaper.
Very much like this: http://lifehacker.com/5164240/the-notebook-desktop

Ive tried GeekTool, but I cant get the hang of it, and its not quite what Im looking for...as far as I can tell. Its really complicated for a person who doesnt know much about scripts and command line wizardry.

Any suggestions?
Or maybe you know more about GeekTool and can point me at a simple how-to on getting RSS feeds to be displayed?

Im kinda obsessing over this idea and would appreciate any suggestions infinitely.

So, we installed and successfully run Windows on our iMac and since it has absolutely no idea where it is or that it shares it's existence with the iMac is there anyway to transfer or accress our music/video files so I can enjoy them while using Windows? ...because that would be cool, just sayin.

I have no idea why but after I had to use my reinstall disc, I cannot install programs. I bought my imac in August so there is no reason why I keep on getting "Volume not supported". I have done the software check and I don't know what else to do. I just got a Adobe package program to install for design and I can't install it. I'm so frustrated.

Has this happened to anyone? What did you do?
