Well, since this is quite small, we might as well keep it loose.  The rules are - there are no rules.  Write whatever your given piece of artwork tells you to.  Stories will be due in July 11th.  Let's have some fun.

Well, it looks like it's just the three of us interested right now.  Is that ok with you, Bria and Ariestess?  It will just be an intimate, er threesome.

What is this?  Sitting over here with a pretty bow on top and tag?  *reads tag*  F-R-E-E T-I-M-E

I have know idea what to do with this as it's been so long since I have had any.

OK, I'll stop being cute and get to the question?  Anyone out there interested in a wheel?  I was thinking that we might do something like base the wheel off artwork instead of lurics.  Any thoughts?

Title: Soul of the Sea
Author: [info]kittydesade
Fandom: None
Word Count: 3,000
Rating: PG
Summary: ... I can't think of one. I'm fairly sure the song doesn't apply, but the lyrics are posted on my journal anyway and I can even bold the parts that made it into the fic. A husband and wife argument over when enough is enough. Bits and pieces taken from here and there.

It was too cold to stand outside without a jacket, and too warm for her heavy overcoat, so she compromised with a velvet shawl her mother had left her. It saw more use in her home than it ever had at her mother's, who eschewed formal occasions where black velvet would have been appropriate. The fridges tickled along her arms in the wind. It felt like little spiders were crawling over her skin.

Every morning for the past week Tisha had walked out onto the balcony and stared out at the harbor, wondering. They were supposed to be back by now.

From the porch she could see the harbor, and as much of the town as remained unobscured by the forest that they had protested and fought so hard to keep intact. She loved the woods, and even though it was too cold to go down and spend much time in them now, at least as she wished, barefoot and running about, she tried to keep her eyes in the treeline and look for the hawks.

It was better than looking for the mast.

Too many arguments. Too many years of just one more season, and it wasn't as though they needed the money anymore. He had a small fleet of boats to do the work for him, men that he hired to drag the nets and carry the pots. And while she appreciated that he wanted to be a part of that and stay connected, the storms and sea were just as hard now as they had been twenty years ago.

Author’s Notes: This was written for the lyric2lit April challenge. The lyrics to The Clarks' "Born Too Late" were supplied by turned_earth. I'd had a few other ideas when I first got these lyrics for the plot, but then I happened to be rewatching the 1998 Lindsay Lohan version of The Parent Trap and got this idea… It just seemed…perfect!

The lyrics are listed after the story.

Then the rules...

They are more like guidelines, really.  We are going to keep it simple for this run.  Any character or fandom, OCs welcome.  No theme this time, but expect one next go 'round.

Please add a disclaimer to your fic, especially slash or sexual content.

Feel free to post the lyrics here for your assigned person or ask for email if you'd rather.

All stories should be posted on April 3rd.

Any questions?  No?  Then get off my porch!, er go get those lyrics.</font></div>

Who is ready to start a new wheel?  Post here if you'd like to participate.  There will be no restrictions this time around as we let the new people get the hang of it.  For all those interested, lyric assignments will be posted on Tuesday night.

As promised we are getting ready to start a new Lyric Wheel, but first I wanted to welcome our newest members. We are happy to have new faces and new voices to play along. Feel free to introduce yourself and see previous introductions in the memories.  Since some of us have been here for a while and not all of us are on the same page, let me start us all at the beginning.

The history of the Lyric Wheel as I know it.

In the beginning of time, or at least my time on the internet, there was and still exists a Highlander the Series site known as the BABE forum. From this forum and others like it formed a group of fanfic writers who liked a challenge. The challenge became the Lyric Wheel and the idea was that with each turn of the wheel the members would produce a new piece of fanfic within the rules given them at the beginning of the turn. I participated in a couple of these and really enjoyed myself, but life got hectic and my focus changed to other non-Highlander fandoms. But I always remembered the fun and challenge of the Lyric Wheel.

Several years later I discover LiveJournal and find a thriving land of eager writers. In school and fandomless, still I had the urge to write and remembered the Wheel. I wanted a fun group of people to play with, without the constraints of writing about a particular fandom. Then the idea came to me to make Lyric2Lit and the rest is, well, history.

Now, on to the important questions…

What is Lyric2Lit?

As the maintainer, I am trying to create a fun and safe place for writers to stretch and tone their literary muscles. As such the basic rules of consideration apply here.

  • Criticism should be of the constructive sort. Always try to keep your words positive. If they can’t be seen as advice to the author, just don’t say them.
  • I may love fire but I hate flames. No wars here. If you have a problem with a fellow writer, take it elsewhere.
  • Further rules will be added should the need arise, but I hope it never does.

What is a Lyric Wheel?

Although other incarnations of the Lyric Wheel have been more restricted to specific fandom or rules, ours is more loose. The Lyric Wheel is a regular challenge where participants share chosen lyrics with each other in order to stimulate the creative process. Step by step it goes like this…

  • Those who chose to participate are assigned a person for who they chose and send lyrics.
  • After receiving their lyrics, participants will create a bit of fiction inspired by the lyrics sent to them. Occasionally there may be themes or guidelines for the stories, such as "Write about sacrifice/Christmas/childhood."
  • Unless otherwise stated all fandoms/ratings/pairings are welcome. This includes original characters. This community is not exclusive to fanfic. All fic is welcome.
  • All stories should include somewhere in them a line from the song that inspired them.
  • A deadline will be sent. At that time all stories should be posted to the forum. Constructive criticism is welcome and most writers I know are not adverse to praise either.
  • Please head your story with the usual disclaimers for copyright and content as are appropriate to your fic.

Thanks for joining us and let's have fun.  And a special thanks to

[info]ariestess for kicking my butt into gear.

So back on the first of the year, I'd commented about the lack of traffic here and seeing if people were interested in doing another round. Only one other person commented, so I'm gonna have to guess that this community is well and truly dead... Which sucks, because this was a fun challenge to play with...

Unless someone wants to start up another round, of course...

Any chance there's going to be another round? Or is this comm pretty much dead now?

I'm going to take a break from pain pills and homework (What a spring break!) to read some fic. Mine will be up real soon. Honestly the pain has been a bit distracting and, well, I'm having trouble withthe ending. But I'm almost there... I think.
