fanfic: reached the open sea
Talk about presumptuous titles. *g* I signed up for lgbfest this year, and wrote fanfic for Jerott. My prompt was an open-fandom one, for how a character reconciles their religion or faith and their sexuality or gender. To whit: Reached The Open Sea, Jerott, gen, in which Jerott neither flinches nor rebels from the truth. I hope it works! Feedback would be loved. | | Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 | 12:52 pm [applegnat]

joy cometh in the morning for one j blyth?
*waves* Hello! I'm currently trying to finish a story set in our beloved Chronicles for a fest challenge, and having a great deal of trouble with it, thanks to how very daunted I am by the combination of anachronistically electrifying dialogue and lavishments of accurate detail. Books: so satisying to read, so frightening to fic. So in the middle of building stress, I decided that the best thing to do would be completely ignore the writing! And inquire if there are any fans in the house for one of my favourites in the series, Jerott Blyth. I'm inordinately fond of the man, and I thought the end - indeed, his whole part in the prophecies of the DofD, stretching from Pif through CM, was tragic for him. Frivolous question
Has anyone here been watching BBC's Merlin? Arthur keeps reminding me of Lymond. Am I alone in this? | | Saturday, August 16th, 2008 | 10:50 pm [not_your_god]

Yet another round of the Lymond Casting Game
I think I've found my new favorite for Lymond- Jensen Ackles. Yes, he's on the CW. Yes, he was on Dark Angel. Smallville too, I know, I know. But I have to say he has consistently been the best thing by far in almost everything he puts his hand to- he acts circles around his costars, and I think he's got the chops to pull off (our sadly hypothetical) Lymond. He's also got the looks: ( pictures )My second (first?) choice (given a time machine) would be that old favorite, Peter O'Toole: ( picture )Your turn! Also, anyone have a photo of the guy who DD said originally inspired Lymond? She mentioned an actor once, but I forget who... | | Sunday, July 6th, 2008 | 12:39 am [grace_poppy]

Lymond dream
I had a random Lymond dream last night. He was played by Cary Elwes, much in the style of Westley from The Princess Bride. (Oh dear...) It was such an enjoyable dream, because I was watching it unfold as if I was reading one of the books, and that's always so pleasurable. Some feisty young woman whom he had wronged managed to kidnap him. Her name was Martha (no, not Marthe. In the dream, I think I subconsciously thought she was a character from Niccolo.) She actually held a knife up to his neck and said "Drop. Your. Sword." Naturally he didn't want to be stabbed in the neck, so he went along with it, but I think he was more just annoyed to have to ride around the countryside with her. Also, for some reason she was riding the horse backwards, face to face with Lymond, so he was having to look down her dress, and he thought she did have rather nice breasts, so it wasn't a completely ruined day. (It wasn't me! It was Lymond!! I don't know where it came from, honest.) They arrived at some old ruined convent (St. Mary's?) and he recognized it and explained to her that it had belonged to his family until someone took it away from them and destroyed it. She replied angrily, " We lost a house too!" which was apparently his fault. The end - though there was foreshadowing that of course she would forgive him and realize it was all done for a very important reason, and she would become and ally and a friend and probably fall in love with him. And this is why I don't need to read or write fanfic - my brain comes up with enough of it while I sleep. Current Mood: silly | | Saturday, April 26th, 2008 | 12:37 am [traboule]

Shy as a dogtooth violet
Heads up of new and interesting project - as well as some fun personal plugging because, you know, who doesn't do that? I think some of you have read my little bit of Dunnett fic - long drabble more than, you know, real plot - at ff.net called Pawn Advancing. Recently, I got a request from a reader at </a></b></a> amplificathon to record it, so I said, sure, why not. The group, by the way, exists to share fanfic by reading it aloud. It's a neat idea and definitely worth checking out - a very eclectic mix of things get posted (directly under mine is a House/Nip Tuck crossover and a Shakleton fic). Anyway, the recording is up now - here - and I'm so impressed to hear it read aloud. Even more, I'm terribly flattered that anyone was this interested in it in the first place. My goodness! So if you've read Pawn Advancing, or you haven't and are desperate for Lymond fanfic (spoilers implied but not explicit; no Lymond/Will/Anybody else slashing - although the idea is weirdly appealing), do go on and listen to the melliflous voice of </a></b></a> twasadark doing a great deal of justice to my misplaced pronouns. And yes, the music is about 80 years too early, but the sentiment is appropriate and since early Rennaissance polyphony is not my thing, I'm not as picky as I might be. And I don't like Palestrina very much. If you're someone who noticed, I apologize. Current Mood: impressed | | Monday, March 31st, 2008 | 5:41 pm [caile]

Roses
Hello! *waves* Brief introduction - I'm Peggy; I started reading the Lymond Chronicles last fall, after being mercilessly poked by some friends over at sounis. I just finished The Ringed Castle, and am ready to dive into Checkmate : ) When I could no longer get friends to obsess with answer my questions for me, I went searching for Dunnett sites, and lo and behold! here you are! The answer to my hopes and dreams! So I come to you with a question ... (I don't think there are any spoilers involved in the question, but a cut, just in case.) Watch his hands
I'm hoping someone in this group has a better memory for quotation than I do. I am trying to track down a bit that I think appears in The Ringed Castle while Lymond is in Russia (that's not a spoilery thing, is it?) but I can't remember for sure. Someone, probably Lymond, is telling a folk story/parable involving game, possibly birds since there's so much falconry in that book. One creature says something about how "sad" the eyes of the hunter are to which the other replies something like "Forget his eyes; watch his hands." I think I have now more than adequately illustrated why I need help here. Can anyone offer me page references or a bit of excerpted text? I'd be ever so grateful. Thanks! | | Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 | 4:14 am [traboule]

Monsiur scorpion est epuisant
Strange thoughts come to my head at 4 A.M., especially when my procrastination starts with the lyrics to "Aupres de ma blonde" and ends with French horoscopes. It occurred to me that, although we are very clear that Lymond is a Scorpius, I have no idea what Philippa is. Do we know her astrological sign? Lymond accuses her of being a Cancer somewhere in the second half of Checkmate, but I don't think she affirms or denies. Although it's possible she said and I missed it. Anybody? Current Mood: weird | | Saturday, October 20th, 2007 | 4:11 pm [gypsymichaella]

new Lymond community
I've started a community called reading_dunnett for new readers (or non-spoilerish discussions for re-reading) of the Lymond chronicles. Anyone is welcome to join, as long as they're careful about spoilers. And our lovely moderator here, essayel has graciously agreed to let lymond and reading_dunnett be affiliate communities. Two communities to meet all the Lymonding needs of newcomers and veterans alike. | | Sunday, September 30th, 2007 | 8:26 pm [traboule]

Music
Anybody know the Waverly Consort? They do a lot of early Rennaissance music, especially Spanish. My friend says their piece, "Ayo Visto lo Mappamundi" reminds her of Lymond. It's a bit early, but the sentiment (I have looked on the world? More or less? My spanish is pretty much nonexistant) is appropriate and the rhythms are fun. So how could I, in all conscience, keep it away from other Lymond fans? Just passing it along, for anyone else who might be interested in early 16th century music. Unless I'm the only one... If you want to have a listen, you can hear a version at their website, here. This recording cuts the 1 minute instrumental intro, which makes me sad but probably isn't completely necessary. | | Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 | 7:19 pm [gypsymichaella]
