In need of Father's Day plot bunnies
I already did a rec list for Family Fest, but I wanted to write some fiction as well. I came up with the idea of doing a short story in my Always series, where Theodore and Dylan hear about a Muggle holiday called Father's Day from Hermione, and decide to do something that day for Snape and Lupin.

The only trouble is, I'm sort of stumped as to what they should do to celebrate. They'd get up early and fix breakfast for the Professors, but then what? Take them out somewhere, to a show or Quidditch match? Just stay in and spend the day together as a family? Or as their gift to their fathers, arrange for Snape and Lupin to have some alone time and go off on a date? Somehow nothing really reaches out and grabs me, although the date idea has some potential. So I thought I'd see if my readers have any suggestions, any good plot bunnies they'd like to see me write.

If you're not familar with the series, Snape and Lupin adopted two orphaned Death Eaters' sons after the war ended: Theodore Nott and Dylan Rosier. Theodore is currently 18 going on 19, and Dylan is a year younger. So unfortunately, I can't use "the kids fix daddy burnt toast and eggs for breakfast" kind of plot. Well, I guess I still could, but I've already established in the series that they can fix an edible meal. ;)

ETA: Thank you everyone for your great suggestions--they've definitely got the creative juices flowing! I think I've got enough to start with, but if you want to keep commenting, please feel free. One can never have too many plot bunnies, right? ;) Oh, and if someone is inspired to write their own Father's Day story, I'm perfectly happy to share the bunnies.

I love the idea of Theo and Dylan arranging something romantic, like a portkey to a romantic holiday spot as a surprise for them.

Yeah, that idea is kind of growing on me. I think I may use it in combination with one or more of the other suggestions below. Thanks for the input!

What would Father's Day be for a magically-raised youth, eh? Do they celebrate Guy Fawke's Day in the Wizarding World?

The boys might take each father on his own special event: a dueling exhibition and symposia at the British Museum for Remus and an open-air market for potions ingredients that really only comes around every decade due to the rarity of the materials for Severus. Dylan and Theodore might have attempted a box of Weasley Wizarding Wheezes that didn't quite go over and this was their back-up plan. There even might be humor with the boys trying their best to be in two places at once.

The sheer formality with which the boys might treat the day could have Remus and Severus wondering if they'd done something wrong, even! I can just hear Severus asking, "Did you get someone pregnant? Someone so unsuitable that I had to be dragged to Land's End to be told?"

Heh heh, I was going to have Theo and Dylan explain about Father's Day to Snape and Lupin, but now I like the idea of them being utterly clueless and wondering what the kids are up to. I particularly like the line, "Did you get someone pregnant?" which is especially hilarious since Theodore is dating Blaise Zabini! (Of course, this is HP, so I guess there's always the possibility of mreg...)

Thanks for the bunny!

It occurs to me that Lupin and Snape became fathers to these boys when they were quite close to being grown up. I think the boys should arrange some outing for the whole family to kind of re-create childhood experiences. Go to the zoo, get some ice cream, find some way of filling in the gaps of child/parenting experience.

Hee, maybe the boys could take a de-aging potion and really become young children for a day. :D

Aw, that's very sweet--I love the idea of a family trip to the zoo! The de-aging thing sounds fun, too! I'm not sure if it'll fit into this story, but maybe I'll save it for another, since I really like that idea.

Thank you for the bunnies!

I could see them wanting to do something romantic or nice for them and then really buggering it up and having to call Severus and Remus to save them. For some reason, the image of a large spiderweb comes to mind.

It's the third Sunday in June (UK & US), so something summery would be in order. Picnic? Sailing? Could be the Summer Solstice some years.
