I checked up on the 401k that I enrolled in at the beginning of the summer today, and to my happy surprise it has about $100 in it. Dillons will match the first 3% of my input and match half of the next 2%, so I started out putting in 5% of my pay, but I'm so happy to see it growing that I've decided to put in 10% of my pay. Hopefully smarts and chunky investing now will help me when there's no social security left....

Fat loot!

Care to reminisce about some favorite (or not so favorite) summer memories?

Ah yes I remember the great fun my friends and I had down on Indiancreek  ( A small river really ) with swimming and fishing party's. An Old lightning struck Oak that had most of its upper branch's blasted off fell across the creek, it lay mostly flat across creek the water flowed under the big thick trunk end.
This made the water wash the sand and gravel out down stream of it, making A great big deep swimming and fishing  hole there. You could fish or dive from the top of the old Oak trunk it was A magic place all my friend's and I loved. Even today it still is A fine swimming and fishing spot, though the trunk has settled down well into the creek bed so that the water flows over it now its A fine place to sit with the cool water streaming over it and you to relax on A hot summers day.  Ahhhhh the simple country pleasures cant beat them for any money!

The Americans have their gold and silver, China has her bronze, all's right with the world...

Interesting how the CBC commentators were saying that the judges use 'the roar of the crowd' to determine what scores to hand out.

Man the right doc really makes the difference

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 10:43 PM
Hi all. Okay so I went back to the hospital today. Granted I was there for four hours but actually got a doctor that gave a damn and didnt just rubber stamp me out.

Doc took a look at both ears and said he wasnt surprised I was feeling so badly and in so much pain. He explained the biology part of it, to be honest I really didnt care and could barely hear him anyways, but said he couldnt just treat one ear and let the other one heal itself as they were both REALLY bad. He had put "wicks" in my ears (they have since fallen out so I am using cottonballs to keep the meds in while I sleep at least) along with some really oily meds. He gave me four prescriptions .... two painkillers, one ear drop (which admittedly I had been given by the first doc too but had called the hospital to see if i could get a generic for it that didnt do crud because the good one was 128 dollars), and one anti-inflammatory.......or something like that lol....if I didnt want to get a crap storm launched at me I would actually list what I got but dont wanna mention the pain killers part *wolfy grin*. Im too lazy to bother getting them from the kitchen counter anyways...though I do need to put my drops in before bed. Also got a note to keep me out of work until friday. I would have been happy with just an excuse for the past two days and was only hinting about that when I even asked him about how this would all effect my work. He said that hearing large machinery would be an issue and asked what I do for work. I explained it and he was about to just shrug it off when mom mentioned my little "Jacob" incident. For those that dont know ... I got run over by Jacob when he was using the walking stacker (not my fault, the guy is a freaking moron and was chatting with the grocery girls....didnt see me which I dont understand as I am a large gal...and hit the U-Boat that I was standing next to when I got out of his way.....pushed the damn thing right into my shin). Mom said that I could hear perfectly fine then and still got hurt....thats when I got the doc note to stay out until Friday lol.

Anyways I am feeling more like my old self again, not so flipping depressed (I was scaring myself I admit), and have maybe about half the pain I had before. Mom was able to talk to me at a regular level instead of screaming so I can hear, my appetite is back (in fact was just joking with Thal about the meds giving me the munchies), I actually have the desire to smoke again (regular cigarettes...yes I know that really doesnt help my health but for me thats a sign of feeling better as I dont bother going out to smoke when I feel like crap...just had a pack last me about three to four days instead of one), and as you can see I am feeling VERY "talkative". Mom is feeling better too (though the meds caused her almost 200 bucks that I have to pay back....she seemed happy to see me back anyways...though angel keeps saying it's the new me....not sure why) as she was concerned I may have had EEE or West nile virus due to the flipping connect the dots worth of mosquito bites I got while on vacation. Dad is dad...what else is there to say....except he got me a coffee this morning that was AWESOME, hadnt had one in a few days either which again is reason for concern lol.

Not looking forward to the lecture I will get from Darryl tomorrow when I drop off my doc note....dont really care either. Thal said he would go with me so I will have "back up" anyways = > Gotta drop off and pick up prescription for mom too....turn about is fair play right?

Anyways I am hanging on IM talking Thal's ear off so I will close for now. Thanks for those that have been listening to me whine while sick and wishing me all the best = > You all rock.

Wish I had seen these before getting married

Probably wouldnt have stopped me but would have given me a good laugh and might have prepared me for the crap I dealt with....

Progress!

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 10:09 AM
I got the final measurements for the Transformers tie quilt last night, and whipped up the top part of it in 2 hours this morning. This includes ironing it, cutting it out, and sewing it all together! Pretty good for a queen-sized blanket with 12" blocks, especially since I had to be really careful where I cut the blocks since each block has a Transformer centered in it.

Not I just need to get Jen to buy the rest of the materials (batting, backing, and bias tape) so I can finish it off.

In other news, ALL of dad's quilt blocks are put together, and I'm working on putting the last 16 blocks together into bigger bits so I can stitch them onto the rest of the quilt. After that, it's on to quilting. (Did I mention that all of the stuff for my dad is being hand-stitched? Yah. I've been working on this quilt for 5-6 years now.)

I loves me my progress!

Now I just need to finish up a few other projects before school starts, and I'll be good. Hopefully I won't have any homework for this first weekend, which will give me more time to finish things, because this semester will probably be more time consuming than last semester.

My fall schedule, for those of you who want to see it )
but had to watch something to cheer me up first....here's the best so far....

Curses.

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 3:16 AM
OH BAJEEBUS. Not only is Nathan Fillion going to be at Dragon*Con, but Alan Tudyk as well.

Delicious convention, WHY MUST YOU TEASE ME SO by being the same weekend that I have to move into school so that I can never attend you until I graduate. Guhhhhhh DO WANT DO WANT DO WANT. XD

Ah well. :P

Back from vacation

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 5:33 PM
and feeling like crap.
Got twin ear infections...one in each ear...and have been doped up on excederin and ear drops since sunday morning. Im also partly deaf now so folks have to yell at me = / Once again I prolly screwed up my job as I didnt go in today....in so much pain I really dont care. Made the mistake of watching "Animal Farm" on youtube along with "Felidae". I had always wanted to read Animal Farm but now I am sure it is going to haunt my dreams = / I dont know why ... you would think Felidae would have bothered me more....Guess Im just weird that way.

Other than that same old same old. Vacation was fun, did some swimmng and fishing.

Whoops

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
I've just noticed all the embedded videos - whoops! I did two and they didn't show up after an hour, so I tried again and then sort of messed around. And suddenly - here they all are (were, I deleted). Strange.

Blame software and networks rather than a sudden Youtube frenzy.

KU Anime Club

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 3:31 PM
For those of you who enjoy attending KUAC meetings, the first one will be next Monday, August 25. This is earlier than usual because we will NOT be having a meeting on Monday, September 1, due to Labor Day. Regular club meetings will ensue Monday, September 8, by which time we will have figured out what the Wednesday schedule will be like. Hope to see you all there!

In other news, the thing that you all know about and aren't supposed to talk about in front of [info]ryltar is coming along nicely. Still needs another day's work, though.

Plug suit still fits.... mostly

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 7:37 AM
I tried on the plug suit this morning to make sure that I haven't gained any inches in the wrong places, thinking that my tummy might be a trouble spot after not going to the rec center at all this summer. There I was wrong: the wonderful PVC slimmed me right down to lovelyness, just like last time. The trouble spot was one that came at me from out of the blue, that I'll continue to be concerned about: my calves are bigger than they were this spring because of all the bike riding I've been doing. And since I'm planning to ride my bike to school at every available opportunity, this might not look good.

I think the fabric can take up the slack if they get any more muscular... I'm just worried about cutting off circulation to my feet, since my circulation sucks anyhow. I guess I'll just have to deal.

Fantastic movie

As you watch this keep reminding yourself that the shooting budget was only $7000

I live.

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 4:39 AM
Right, so, updating.

I went to Put-in-Bay with Steven, Ryan O., Jimmy, Sam and her friend Jen for most of the week. We rented a house, frolicked, adventured and went to Cedar Point. It was most excellent. :D

I finished the yellow fox head, Kit, for Reynard. He is quite lovely; my best head yet IMHO. Pictures forthcoming. Next I have to get my rear into gear in Xander's dragon suit, along with a few other projects. I am returning to Baltimoreland in less than two weeks. :o

Lastly, I have been roleplaying quite a lot recently. The multifandom game I had been happily playing both Zoe and Captain Hammer in, Malahsa, ceased to be when the mods went batshit and deleted all related communities. Thankfully however, one of the other players created a new game, [info]dauphinmare, into which we could take the same characters and resume our plotlines. Dauphinmare has the added bonus of allowing player-run establishments and NPCs so an in-game Red Tavern was born, owned and operated by none other than good ol' Blood Raven, muahaha. It has been good times. I'm contemplating picking up yet another character, probably one from Star Trek: TNG. I highly encourage all of you to join in the fun at Dauphinmare with a character of your choosing, it's been quite lively and entertaining and we could always use some fresh blood. Additionally, I advertised the hell out of my new game, [info]temporalaccord. It does not open for play until the 22nd, but so far has perked a pleasing amount of interest - most of the BDH are either spoken for or reserved at the moment, but we are in particular need of more people to play minor and original characters. So if you'd like to take a waltz into the Firefly 'verse, mosdef check it out.

So, is it bad that I'm looking on my DeviantArt to remember which costumes I've made since it would take too long to look through my closet?

I sew too much.
