Goldie Jeanne Hawn was born Goldie Studlendgehawn on November 21, 1945 in Washington, D.C. After her big break on the sitcom "Good Morning, World," she began acting as a regular cast member on the sketch comedy show "Laugh-In" during the 1960s. In 1969, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the motion picture Cactus Flower. She continued making films to much acclaim- she even produced Private Benjamin, one of the first movies carried by a woman's name, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Throughout her long career, she has worked with such industry greats as Ingrid Bergman, Walter Matthau, Diane Keaton, Holly Hunter, Susan Sarandon, Mel Gibson, Steve Martin, Meryl Streep, Chevy Chase, Julia Roberts, Bette Midler, and Woody Allen.
She is a mother of three: Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson, and Wyatt Russell. Kate and Oliver were children from her previous marriage to Bill Hudson and Wyatt is a product of her relationship with actor Kurt Russell. She considers Kurt's son from a previous marriage, Boston Russell, to be her child as well. Russell and Hawn have been together (publicly) since 1983. Both Kate and Oliver have followed in their mother's footsteps by beginning careers in acting. Oliver acted with Goldie in 1999's The Out-of-Towners and, among many other roles, scored a recurring part on "Dawson's Creek" in 2003. Kate made a big splash in 2000 with her role in Almost Famous. Since then, she has starred in such blockbuster hits as How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, Raising Helen, and The Skeleton Key.
Goldie's political views are outspokenly liberal- she has made numerous contributions to the Democratic Congressional and Senatorial Campaign Committees, the Hollywood Women's Political Committee, Voters for Choice / Friends of Family Planning, the US presidential campaigns of Garry Hart, Michael Dukakis, and John Kerry, as well as the 1992 Senate campaign of former Illinois Senator and Ambassador to New Zealand Carol Moseley Braun. She has also donated to various political candidates from her several residences (in Colorado, Southern California, New York, and British Columbia) including California Democrats Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein and Colorado Republican Ben Nighthorse Campbell for US Senate.
Hawn has written an autobiography called A Lotus Grows in the Mud (2005) which she claims is not a Hollywood tell-all, but rather a memoir and record of what she has learned in her life so far. In it she discusses her Jewish upbringing, her Hollywood experience, her world travels, and her newfound interest in Buddhism with her son Boston as her spiritual guru.
