Okay, love_deeper, I need your help.

A friend of mine has recently picked up RPing old!Sasuke and has encouraged me to try my hand at Kamanosuke. Limited panel time to icon? Not a problem. Funny accent? I dig it. Gender confusion? Not so much.

It's kind of sad for me to be asking for gender clarification this late into the series (I mean, it's finished, for goodness' sakes!) but I honestly find myself with no clue which way to lean. I've read a couple of Tokyopop's volumes, but I've also heard that TP has screwed up gender before.

I know this has been brought up at least once before in the community, but the comment threads never seemed to reach a conclusion. Is there any way of knowing for sure (or, at least, reasonably sure) what Kamanosuke's gender is? >:

That doesn't stop him from charging in, though.
Notes: This is a cousin fic to Unstring Our Bones. Big super mucho epic thanks to my betas, IcedOverFire and meganbmoore.

Kyo woke up and she wasn’t there. After a moment of panic, Did those Mibu bastards—no, I would have known, he realized that of course she wasn’t there. She had probably gone after that gang of two-bit petty crooks, even though he’d told her not to. She’d been quiet most of the trip. They only had a few more towns to go before Aokigahara, and she pulled this, just because they’d walked by a few thugs beating on a little kid, and Bon, hung over for the third day in a row, had physically restrained and dragged her off when she’d started to pick a fight with them.

It had gone like:

“But Bontenmaru-san—”

“It’s none of your business. C’mon, let’s find an inn before it gets dark.” Bon had said that, and Kyo had grunted his assent. She had grumbled and not said anything more about it. He should have known that she was up to something when she started looking through her bounty book.

He sat up and scratched his leg. Bon, in the corner, wasn’t really sleeping. “I’m going out,” he said, and Bon made a hangover noise and rolled over to face the wall.

And he was off. It was safe to assume that she’d gone to find their hideout, had gotten captured, and was waiting there for him to rescue her.

He had no idea where he was going. If there were any noteworthy fighters in the gang, he’d have been able to sense them, which would have made his job a lot easier. The Mibu’s land was a bright light on the edge of his awareness; if there was anyone strong, they were taking advantage of their proximity to that concentration of power to hide their ki. Or, there could just be no one strong.

While he tried to figure out which situation would be better, he saw someone walking by with the gang’s symbol on his haori. The kid paused as if he knew Kyo was looking at him, and turned around—facing the wrong direction. Kyo smiled and before the boy could react, he delivered a sharp punch to the jaw. The kid went down like nothing.

The people on the street—mostly vendors setting up their stalls for market day, all of whom were most likely paying protection to the gang—pretended not to see, and a few of them smiled. An old woman pointed to an alleyway behind her stall, and Kyo dragged the boy back there. “Water,” he said, and the she provided it without a word.

"Where is it?" he asked, splashing the water on the boy’s face and kicking him in the ribs.

"I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you," the kid moaned. Kyo gave him another kick and then stopped to wait for him to collect himself. “Oh,” he said, rolling onto his back. There was something a little sick in his eyes. “This is about that woman, isn’t it—the woman we caught last night.”

The kid tried to sit up, but apparently thought better of it. Kyo had never been much of an interrogator—the Shiseiten had had Hotaru’s cruel streak for that—but it was nice to know that he hadn’t lost that special touch. “She’s yours, then. We took her straight to our leader, of course. We should have liked to take turns, but he wasn’t having it until we nagged him a bit.”

He hauled the kid to his feet by his hair and ground his face into the wall of the building until he bled, and then he drew his sword. “Say that again.”

The kid smiled. “We took turns. Well, I didn’t get a shot—”

He would have liked to cut the boy’s head off, but he had a better idea, so he sheathed his sword and just as the boy looked relieved, Kyo broke his neck, which was satisfying but left him without a lead. Still, it couldn’t be that hard to find a thug’s hideout. The little asshole was probably been full of shit about what they did to her, anyway. Probably. Kyo didn’t consider the possibility that he hadn’t been. The old woman said, “Good luck,” and went back to yelling for customers.

An hour later, he stumbled upon it.

He had to take a leak, so he went off into the woods surrounding the town. He didn’t like to do it in bushes; people could lurk in bushes. Though no one had ever attempted to sneak up on him while he was doing his business, one didn’t get to be the killer of a thousand—it was more, but a thousand was a nice number that impressed people—by not being cautious.

Kyo always felt uncomfortable doing anything in Kyoshiro’s body, because it was, in fact, Kyoshiro’s body, which meant that it was Kyoshiro’s shit he shat and Kyoshiro’s ass he wiped. And that was disgusting, so he wandered through the woods in an attempt to alleviate the weirdness he felt.

Just as the weirdness dissipated, he saw a sign scratched into a tree trunk—the same symbol that had been on that boy’s haori. And then another one on another trunk, only ten feet away. Could they make it any more obvious? He followed the trail through the woods and to a hill where the gang’s compound squatted.

They had the high ground. That would have been a problem if he had been anyone other than himself. The walls of the compound were untouched, which meant that the gang hadn’t suffered any attacks lately, and that the sentries were probably lazy.

And the person approaching him thought he was quiet. Kyo heard the sound of an arrow being nocked and continued looking at the building to wait for the would-be shooter. Go ahead, he thought. Try it. See what I do to you. But the archer stood down, perhaps sensing Kyo’s attention on him. One less goon to deal with.

The best way to deal with this was to walk through the front door and kill everyone who wasn’t her. It had always worked when someone thought that it would be a good idea to kidnap his and the Shiseiten’s servant, and there was no reason why it wouldn’t work now. He was close enough to the compound to know that there wasn’t anyone strong enough to delay him—he gave himself five minutes, tops, and went in.

He knew where she was the moment he crossed the threshold, and then lost her. Goddamn Mibu. But at least he had a direction, if only in the form of an overwhelming feeling of go left. He turned left, and went through the first door he saw to find a bunch of grey haori-clad gang members eating breakfast. A minute and a half, he thought, watching them unsheathe their swords.

It took two minutes.

At four minutes, word had apparently spread that there was someone in the compound slaughtering everyone in his path, and he made the rest of his way uninterrupted. He considered knocking down the walls with a mizuchi, but that would be a display of power wasted on these weaklings. He turned left again, and came out into a courtyard.

Away from the presence of the gang, he could get a sense of where she was. He took the door straight ahead of him and entered an anteroom more richly decorated (and more tacky—Yukimura in dumbass mode would have a fit) than the others, and more clean, but for the scent of blood. It wasn’t hers.

There was only one door to go through, so he went through it. The only thing he could see for a moment was her sitting calm and unharmed in the centre of the room. He would never admit to the relief he felt in that moment—not until he had his real body back, at least. The second thing he saw was a great splatter of blood on the wall before her, and the corpse at her knees, its head in her lap. Her kimono was covered in blood, and she was fishing around the corpse’s skull with a pair of metal things. He’d taken them from her once, along with all of her throwing knives and her gun, just to see her yell at him. Now he knew what they were for.

She glanced up at him. “I shot him twice in the head,” she explained. “One bullet went out the other side, but the other didn’t.”

Kyo stared at her.

“It was a dead or alive bounty,” she added, “but it’s less money dead. And bullets aren’t cheap.”

And the way everyone compared her and Sakuya. Sure, there was some physical resemblance: the smile, the figure—something in the face, like the line of the jaw. Sure, there was something going on with him and Kyoshiro whereby they made sure both of them were safe. (He was man enough to appreciate the help, but he was still going to kill that son of a bitch as soon as he got his body back.) But that was all—Sakuya would have had the common sense to stay the fuck put. And maybe he’d been a little in love with Sakuya, but she was one of those people that everyone fell a little in love with, so what did it matter? People only brought Sakuya up to piss him off, and it didn’t work.

She pissed him off.

She dropped the things in the wound and clutched at her chest. “The dragons,” she said, wincing, but then composed herself and picked them up again. “I think they see what I see. The sight of blood probably stirs them up.”

“Then stop looking at it,” he said.

She said, “In a minute,” and resumed her hunt for the bullet. “If they weren’t going to kill me in fifteen days, I’d think of them as my pets.”

Kyo gave his sword a little shake, to get some the blood off of it. “Haven’t I told you that they’re not going to kill you?”

She smiled, and for a moment he thought he’d reassured her; but she pulled the things out of the dead man’s head and cleaned the bullet off on the shoulder of his yukata. That didn’t make it any cleaner—his clothes were soaked with blood, and now that Kyo was actually looking, he could see a few more bullet holes in the chest—but she seemed satisfied. But not happy. She was never happy anymore, but she was getting better at faking it than Muramasa had been. He recognized the camouflage techniques that she had picked up from his master: the saintly smile, the excessive helpfulness, the laugh that came out too soon and strained to be real.

You will destroy her, something in the back of his head said, and he would have liked to blame it on the ghost of Kyoshiro, but he knew better.

He had to break this silence. “If you weren’t so careless, I wouldn’t have to come rescue you.”

“I knew exactly what I was doing.” It was a simple statement of fact, with none of the snap he was used to from her. He wanted to go over and shake her out of it. “How do you think I pay for everything? And do you think—” She stopped. “Let’s just go back to Bon-san. He must be worried.”

And do you think I’ve never killed anyone before?

Of course she’d killed people. She was a bounty hunter. He knew her story because Kyoshiro knew her story: she’d become one when she was twelve years old, when Kyoshiro had killed her and Sakuya’s brother. A young girl in that profession had to learn to defend herself quickly. She wasn’t so different from Akira, except she hadn’t had a Bon or an Akari or a Hotaru to watch her back in a fight.

“How much is he worth?” he asked.

She stood up and took a step back. “Enough. Not as much as you.” He saw some of the old gleam back in her eyes, and she gestured down, as if to say, Go ahead, do the honours. He cut the head off, and she bent down to pick it up.

It was dripping blood, so she grabbed a blanket off the futon in the corner and wrapped it neatly, like a gift. Kyo could feel the remaining gang members hiding out in what they thought were safe places. He could have gone back and finished them all off, but the one who hadn’t come at him were the women, and the cowards. There was no joy in slaughtering cowards.

She stepped over the bodies as serenely as if they weren’t there. It made sense that she would have gotten used to seeing carnage, hanging around him and Yukimura and Bon—Tora simply didn’t have the knack for real slaughter. When she tripped, with a little “ah” that she couldn’t suppress and that betrayed how much effort she was putting into maintaining that calm, Kyo caught her by her elbow.

It wasn’t until their eyes met that he realized: Yuya hadn’t looked at him since he’d rescued her. He opened his mouth to speak, and then shut it, grabbed her shoulder, and searched her face for something, or anything. The gesture was rewarded by a little sharp intake of breath from her, a little parting of the lips. His hand moved itself to the back of her neck. “Kyo,” she said, and dropped the makeshift bag and leaned in.

An arrow planted itself in the wood above their heads with a dry thud.

Kyo pushed her behind him and searched for the shooter’s presence amongst the trees. What he gathered: the archer was strong, and had been using the Mibu to hide himself.

Herself.

Kyo remembered one of the men he’d killed saying, “Sako will—” as he sputtered and died. He’d figured that it had been the man’s mother’s name, or something. It didn’t matter: he had killed women before. He would have killed Shihoudou, if he had been able to. (She was the one person he was dreading seeing in the Mibu lands. Hopefully, someone else would have to deal with her when she inevitably poked her nose in—maybe Hotaru, or Akari, or both at the same time. That would be hilarious.)

So this Sako (who was almost definitely low-level renegade Mibu) figured that because he was a swordsman, she could take him out with a ranged attack—just one hit when his guard was down. She’d had the chance, but had squandered it on a warning shot. Didn’t she know that sense of fairness got one nowhere except dead? He readied a mizuchi, and he felt her panic, but it was too late. He released it at her and it cut down the trees and brush in its path to get at her, and her scream was beautiful.

Behind him, Yuya scrambled to get the head back in the blanket. He looked back at her, and because she wasn’t looking at him—she was tying a good, strong knot in the top of the blanket—he smiled to see that her face was bright red. That was Yuya.

You will destroy her. That little voice, again. He ignored it.

Disclaimer: I don't own Kyo, or Yuya, or any of the other Samurai Deeper Kyo characters. I do however, own my two ocs, and wuv them very much.

A/N: You kno the drill, long time lurker, first time post, so i'm a bit nervous about this whole thing. but i wrote this a few days ago and thought it was cute. All i can say to prepare you for this is: Kyo's dead. Warings include potty mouthed ten year olds, off screen violence and alcohol consumption, and an angry Yuya.

Title: Killing Demon Eyes Kyo equals a free wallet, specifically Yuya's wallet.

Kyo lay on his back against the ground, eyes shut, limbs splayed out in front of him. The wind playfully tugged at his tattered clothes along with the leaves clinging desperately to the tree branches.

Two boys stared at the man with matching green eyes and faces mirrored in a similar expression of horror. They hovered on either side of the man, the boy on the left clutched the hilt of a bokken that had been snapped in half (the other half lay discarded on the ground, forgotten for the moment) and the boy on the right held an empty jar of sake.

The other boy spoke first, "Oh god, I think you killed him," he murmured quietly, as if his very words could stir the motionless man on the grass.

"What do you mean, me?!" the boy on the left hissed, eyes narrowed, "You're the one who told me to go for it! How was I supposed to know he'd been drinking!" he exclaimed in his defence, sharply flinging his arms in Kyo's direction as if to say 'see?! I'm clearly the right one, not you jackass.'

The other boy scowled in response, "I don't know, maybe because he ALWAYS drinks!? I thought you'd be smarter than to actually do it, but obviously I've given you too much credit, oh brother of mine," he sarcastically spat, hands on his hips.

"Shut up, Yuzuru!" his twin howled, cheeks rosey with embarassment, "you egged me on, this is your entire fault!" he accused, stamping his foot for good measure.

"Whatever. The point is, we're both royally screwed." Yuzuru stated, crossing his arms over his chest in a solemn mannor. "Now...what to do with the body? Okaa-san will no doubt come looking for us soon.." he mused, pressing his lips together in a thin contemplative line.

The other twin rolled his eyes in exasperation, "You idiot, there's no way two ten year old boys, no matter how strong and awesome the eldest is," At this, the boy laid a hand against his chest to demonstrate, "can drag a full grown, muscle-y samurai, and hide the body from our mother."

Yuzuru's scowl deepened, "So what's your brilliant plan, Kazuya?" he cocked his head to the side inquisitively and waited for his answer.

Kazuya's response was to bend over his father's prone form and peel the upper layer of his kimono away from the man's chest, reaching inside with a grubby hand and rooting around unabashed.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Yuzuru shrieked with wide eyes, completely mortified by his brother. He uncrossed his arms and grabbed at the collar of Kazuya's shirt, intending to pull him away.

The other boy easily shrugged him off and explained, "Seeing if he still has his wallet on him. Or actually, Okaa-san's. He was such a bum when he was alive." He woefully shook his head and sighed, his face the very image of mourning.

"You disgust me. Not only sharing the same blood, but face as you makes my head spin," Yuzuru declared.

Kazuya grunted in firm agreement, "Ditto to that little bro." And continued on with his task.

Suddenly a tanned, caloused hand wrapped around the brave Kazuya's wrist and Kyo's eyes shot open, a blank look on his face.

The boy tried in vain the pull away from the vice-like grip, wailing, "EAT YUZURU INSTEAD, HE'S FATTER! I'M ALL SKIN AND BONES!"

Yuzuru screamed as well, though his proclamation was more along the lines of, "KAZUYA YOU BIG JERK, IT"S YOUR JOB TO SAVE YOUR LITTLE BROTHER! DON'T OFFER ME TO THE ZOMBIE!"

Kyo sat up ram rod straight, still grasping Kazuya by the wrist, and smirked, "Hehe, i got you little shits."

The boys stared silently at their father, tears leaking from the corners of their eyes, thin trails of snot trickling down their nostrils as their bodies quivered from fear.

And simultaneously they bellowed,

"OYAJI, YOU BASTARD!"

Kyo chuckled darkly, releasing Kazuya, "What a pair of backstabbers I got. You were gonna take my wallet and hide my body from your mother." He fixed the boys with an amused stare, crimson eyes dancing with mirth.

Kazuya pouted, wiping his dripping nose on the back of his hand using every ounce of dignity that remained in his soul, "You're such an asshole, tricking the two of us like that. Look, you made Zuru piss his pants," he accused, gesturing toward the rapidly growing wet spon on the front of his twins pants.

Yuzuru flushed beet red, "IT'S WATER, I SWEAR!" frantically palming the wet spot on his trousers in an attempt to cover it.

Kyo stared at him, then snorted.

Luckily Kazuya chose that moment to 'helpfully' point out, "It's not raining. And the only well is down that hill."

"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!" Yuzuru screamed, clenching his eyes shut, face twisted into a grimace.

Kyo rose to his feet and dusted off his kimono, rolling his eyes towards the seemingly endless blue sky.

"Let's go," he commanded, "your mother's probably pitched a bitch by now, worrying about you brats."

Kazuya huffed and hauled himself to his feet as well, half heartedly glaring at his father, "She's probably more worried about her wallet."

Yuzuru clutched at the front of his pants and stood stiffly, "Hurry," he urged through tightly clenched teeth.

Kazuya glanced at him and dryly said, "What, you still gotta go? I thought for sure it'd all been scared out of you."

Yuzuru's brow furrowed, "Shut the hell up," he retorted, "i wasn't scared, just surprised."

They took off after their father down the hill, the grass swishing under their feet.

"You cried AND pissed your pants. Surprised my ass," Kazuya drawled.

000000000000000000000000000000000

Omake: Ten minutes later

"Kyo! Did you take my wallet?!" Yuya bellowed furiously, fists clenched at her sides so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

Kyo smirked at his woman, but didn't reply.

"Toooooold you so!" Kazuya sang from beside him, eyes glued to the scene that had unfolded right at their dinner table.

Yuzuru couldn't share his brothers enthusiasm, because he was scouring his dresser drawers for a new pair of pants.
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

The end! Sorry for any errors, i gots a bunch of excuses, but none of us wanna bother to read them. I hope you liked, i edited it a bit from the original version and i think i like how i worded this better. so...comments, concerns? Be kind please. EDIT: oh god, i can't believe i forgot the damn cut! *bangs head on desk* stupid, stupid, stupid.

HotIceRed

Kyo asks him once, just to see what Akira will say. Akira turns that eyeless gaze on him and for some reason, it finally hits Kyo, more than ever before, just how much he's affected this boy.

"Impressions, memories. Mostly of you," he says as he leans towards Kyo. "Does that bother you?"

Of course it does. He never asked to be the center of some boy's world or for that boy to stab his eyes out over it.

Instead of saying it, he laughs. "You need to stop sounding so creepy, Akira."

Title: Heartbeat
Author/Artist: Joy silver_magess
Theme: Hearing
Rating: PG
Author's Note: Just slightly on the edge of twisted, since I just don't see this pairing as healthy.

The first time he gets to hear the collection of sounds that is Kyo, it's almost too much. Even though it's not his real body, the way he moves, speaks and just plain breaths, it's all so... him.

He wants to make Kyo's heart beat faster, even if it's because of anger--no, especially anger. Because he knows that he can't get what he really wants from him. And it's not hard to tell himself that it's all he wants. It's how he's survived these last four years, living in denial.

He settles for hearing that anger and rage.

Title: Hypocrisy
Author/Artist: Joy silver_magess
Theme: Touch
Rating: R
Author's Note: Slight dub-con and sliver of Kyo/Yuya.

He'd drunk too much and while Kyo could have made the effort to push Akira away, he couldn't have done so without hurting him. So he lay there and endured those hands sliding down his chest, going wherever they thought they had a right.

Kyo had to give him points for hypocrisy. He knew that Akira would have killed any of the others if they had tried to take advantage of his drunkenness.

Akira fingers were dangerously low, touching where no man had dared touch him before. He wondered if this was how Yuya felt for a moment.

Title: Sadism
Author/Artist: silver_magess
Theme: Smell
Rating: PG

He'd thrown Kyo's precious bag of tobacco down a cliff. Anyone in their right mind would have been terrified of the consequences, but Akira only felt sadistic pride.

There were only a few things he hated about Kyo and the smoking was among them. Even when he'd mindlessly adored Kyo, he'd hated it. He just hadn't had the guts to do anything about it.

As he brushed his hands off, Akira smirked, wondering when Kyo would notice. Would he blame Bon? Or demand that Yuya buy more?

Either way, it promised to be an amusing game.

Title: Provocation
Author/Artist: silver_magess
Theme: Taste
Rating: PG

Even as Kyo's fist connected with his jaw, all Akira was aware of was the taste of blood as his teeth cut into his mouth. Even as Kyo pulled back, trying to hide shock at what he'd done, Akira found himself focusing on the not unfamiliar taste of his own blood. He didn't register Bon's hand on his shoulder as he pushed the two of them apart and he couldn't remember what he'd said to Kyo (though he had gone too far). There was just that flavor and a sense of pride: he had provoked the beast.
