I thought I posted this a while back. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060418/NEWS01/604180360(April 18, 2006 Courier-Journal) Officials with the Ohio River Bridges Project are considering a proposal that would eliminate the ramp from westbound I-64 to Third Street. The proposal would significantly reduce the width of the section of freeway over the Waterfront Park's Great Lawn from 106 yards to 75. As part of this proposal, a new ramp to River Road would be built to the east of the current location that would be accessible from I-64 and I-71.

The section would have a landscaped median and a 10-foot wide bike/pedestrian path, and would be elevated 10 feet to reduce the likelihood of floods. Right-of-way acquisition would most likely take place in 2006–07, utility relocation in 2007–08, and construction in 2008–09.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060502/NEWS01/605020379/1008/NEWS01(Courier-Journal, May 2, 2006) Incase you've been living under a rock, this year's plan to mitigate problems caused by Derby-time cruising on Broadway is to make it inaccessible. Except if you're a resident or business on the street, of course. Police are providing passes to residents and business owners, which drives need to show to officers posted at every intersection in order to turn onto Broadway. The section of Broadway between 29th and 34th will be barricaded entirely, to provide a buffer zone between businesses and residents. No passes are required to cross Broadway, of course.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060502/NEWS0102/605020376/1008/NEWS01(Courier-Journal, May 2, 2006) Work could begin this month on a project to add various dedicated right- and left-turn lanes at the intersection of KY 44, Adam Shepherd Parkway, and Paroquet Springs Drive, one of Shepherdsville's busiest. Meanwhile, the Conestoga Parkway, an alternate route connecting the Adam Shepherd Parkway to KY 61, is scheduled to open next Monday. This is expected to provide some traffic relief as well.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060405/NEWS0102/604050342/-1/ARCHIVES (April 5, 2006 Courier-Journal) Louisville Metro officials, officials from the Paducah & Louisville Railroad, and other interested parties are discussing options for safety improvements on a section of Kentucky Street between 12th and 15th Streets that runs through the middle of a switching yard. There are nine sets of tracks on the rough crossing. One option Metro Councilman George Unseld is proposing is to close that section of the street in lieu of crossing lights or gates; Garland Avenue would be used as an alternate route.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060404/NEWS0102/604040379/1008/ARCHIVES (April 4, 2006 Courier-Journal) A project announced in 2004 to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Chenoweth, Breckenridge, Frankfort Avenue, and Westport Road has one controversial item: to close off access from westbound Westport Road to Frankfort Avenue. State transportation officials are waiting until St. Matthews considers improvements on St. Matthews Avenue to handle the increased traffic.

Johnsontown Road: http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060412/NEWS0102/604120325/-1/ARCHIVES (Courier-Journal, April 12, 2006) The Louisville Metro Public Works Department plans to widen the section of Johnsontown Road between Trade Port Drive and Mahoney Drive to three lanes with a continuous center turn lane. The project is expected to be finished in 2008. The project would complete a 5-mile corridor with three lanes from the Gene Snyder Freeway, along Stonestreet Road, Johnsontown Road, and Trade Port Drive, to Cane Run Road. Bike lanes along Johnsontown Road are part of this project. Bashford Manor Lane: http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060412/NEWS0102/604120318/-1/ARCHIVES (Courier-Journal, April 12, 2006) Work to widen an additional section of Bashford Manor Lane between Newburg Road and Mayo Drive to three lanes and replace a narrow 2-lane bridge is expected to start this year. The rest of Bashford Manor Lane to Bardstown Road is already three lanes wide.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060414/NEWS01/604140388/1008/ARCHIVES (Courier-Journal, April 14, 2006) The Louisville Metro Council approved a measure last night that would require developers in southern and eastern rural parts of Jefferson County to pay fees in order to help cover the costs of widening rural roads. The 10-year program is expected to generate $22 million in revenue, and the city also expects to collect $27 million in property taxes during that period. Roads in that area that would see improvements include Fairmount Road, Rehl Road, Eastwood-Fisherville Road, Johnson Road, North and South English Station Road, Beulah Church Road, and Cedar Creek Road. The money would also be used for new bridges and culverts. See also: http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060413/NEWS01/604130399/1008/ARCHIVES (from April 13, 2006)
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060418/NEWS01/604180360/1008/ARCHIVES (Courier-Journal, April 18, 2006) Transportation officials are considering a change to the Ohio River Bridges Project that would eliminate an exit ramp from westbound I-64 to Third Street. In lieu of the Third Street exit, a ramp to River Road near the bridges would be accessible from westbound I-64 and southbound I-71. This change would narrow the portion of I-64 over Waterfront Park somewhat; the current proposal calls for a 106-yard wide roadway.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060426/NEWS01/604260427/1008/ARCHIVES (Courier-Journal, April 26, 2006) KYTC officials met with the public on Thursday about a project to fix problems at the terminus of the Gene Snyder Freeway at US 42. The new design of this intersection calls for the off-ramp to be moved closer to the on-ramp, a traffic light to be installed, and two left-turn lanes from southbound 42 to the Snyder. The project, expected to start next month and to be finished by November, is actually a part of the $2.46 billion Ohio River Bridges Project.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060201/NEWS0102/602010310/-1/ARCHIVESSince the Gene Snyder interchange at Old Henry Road was opened seven years ago, traffic has exploded on a 14-foot wide section of Aiken Road between Johnson Road in Jefferson County and Ash Avenue in Shelby. Officials from the state and both counties are asking for $550,000 to widen that section from 14 feet to 18 feet as soon as possible. The project would be a stopgap measure until the road could be widened to 24 feet, which would cost $3.5 million and take years for right-of-way acquisition.
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060111/NEWS0102/601110322/-1/ARCHIVESRemember that proposal to convert sections of Portland Avenue and Bank Street from one-way to two-way between 22nd Street and Northwestern Parkway? Fierce opposition from residents of the neighborhood has forced the city to nix the plan for the time being. In lieu of the initial proposal, the city is conducting a study to convert smaller sections of Bank and Northwestern, between 33rd and 37th, to two-way, and may not implement the plan anyway if Kroger decides it gets enough store traffic to justify leaving the streets as they are.

http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060129/COLUMNISTS07/601290416/1025/ARCHIVESThis week the Indiana House of Representatives will vote on a bill that would authorize Gov. Mitch Daniels to lease the operation of the Indiana Toll Road, the state's section of Interstate 90 (and for most of its length, Interstate 80). A Spanish-Australian partnership wants to bid $3.8 billion to operate the highway for the next 75 years; the Governor wants to use the money to help pay for a few major construction projects in Indiana, including its share of the Ohio River Bridges project. dse: Resurrection?

I haven't had the desire to update my Louisville Roads site in quite a while for some reason. The update process is quite cumbersome. Let's see what happens when I set up a LiveJournal community for posting things of that nature. Perhaps this thing will be abandoned as well. Who knows?
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060129/NEWS01/601290376A consulting firm hired by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has put together a preliminary proposal to overhaul the section of I-65 serving the University of Louisville Belknap Campus, Crittenden Drive, and the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. The segment experiences traffic tie-ups when major events are held at the fairgrounds, nearby Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, Churchill Downs, and other nearby attractions. The KYTC is considering the recommendations for the state's new six-year road plan. The $54 million proposal calls for: - A new partial interchange with Central Avenue. - Extending Arthur Street to Crittenden Drive, increasing its role as a collector/distributor. Access to Gaulbert, as well as some existing ramps, would be closed. - A longer ramp from Crittenden to northbound I-65. - Reconfuring the northbound ramps to/from Eastern Parkway and Warnock Avenue into a collector/distributor configuration. - Reconstructing the ramp from Preston to northbound I-65 and removing the exit to Woodbine. |
