hope everyone had a happy patch day!

full release notes
known issues

i'm sure you've seen it asked and answered a dozen times by now if you were online for even a minute today... but in the event you weren't on, or didn't see it come up in a chat channel; despite what the new preview window says for dye-color options... there is no "white dye".

the white is a lie.

(well, mostly a lie... it's not really a "white dye" to begin with, but what they're CALLING "white dye" isn't going to be available in the game until Mines of Moria)

still though... i'm LOVING that new preview window. with a quick check i can see how any color is going to look, and even check what the base-color (wash) tone was, and how/why it's affecting the dyes i'd like to apply. awesome.

i am just a little puzzled over the whole "ring lore/heralds of Rivendel" business though. Apparently it's a live-event, and once the total number of quest completions/item turn-ins has reached 70,000... something... happens. And apparently it's related to being able to complete book 14. *shrug* all i could glean from the forums was the usual divide of "OMG COOLEST THING EVAR" and "OMG TURBINE HATES US, I QUIT". 0_o

what about the rest of ya... run into anything cool that surprised you?

Hello! I played this game for a few months but had to quit back in April because of computer issues. As a result, I became a console chick for a while.

But now I'm back into playing and looking for a friendly guild. :] I play on Firefoot and have a lvl 18 Minstrel named Torar (and a few alts as well). I like to talk but am not annoying by any means. Heh XD

A little background: I played WoW for almost 2 years. I was a healer and just starting to get into raiding. I had to quit because of certain people in my guild. I know I know, stupid reason but they really made me angry and realize how much I hated WoW anyway. :P

Hello again everyone,

I've been playing for about a month now and have a lvl 20 Elf Guardian as long as some other alts...on the Landroval server. Now I know I'm relatively low level and haven't had a hard time finding groups but I'm found wanting a kinship that actually talks and such. Presently I am in a kinship but whenever I log in, I'm only ever the only one on.

So I've come asking the good folks here that play on Landroval if they know a nice place where my elf can find a home with fellow free peoples. The community on LOTRO is awesome but it is nice to be able to talk to people.

Since no one else has posted yet, Book 14 release notes

Just a couple highlights, admittedly slanted to what I find useful :

Auto-attack will be disabled automatically if you select a new opponent while in combat which is in a state that you might break, e.g. Loremaster's "Blinding Flash" or a Hunter trap. (Yes!)

All instances of "Misty Mountain Silver" have been renamed to "Ancient Silver." This includes ore deposits, jewellery items, crafting resources, Jeweller and Prospecting recipes. Ancient Silver can now be found in Forochel, Angmar and Sarnur

Optional crafting ingredients now stack to 20

New farming recipes are available from Novice and Expert farmhands! Farmers now have new crop options to add some variety to their harvest yields. All of the new farming field recipes have the potential to produce rare ingredients useful to Scholars in the production of new dyes, and wall paints for player housing!

Updated many of the high level boss loot tables to drop incomparable items more often - no specifics, but better loot more often is good.

Added 3 more looting options: Roll/Pass with Free For All, Need/Greed with Free For All, and Master Looter with Free For All. If the item is below the current threshold, any person in the group can pick it up. If the item is at or above the threshold then the Loot Policy will be in effect for the item (Roll/Pass, Need/Greed, Master Looter). In addition, for all landscape chests the first player to open the chest will always be able to loot the items below the threshold. All items at or above the threshold will follow the normal Loot Policy.

Players will now see the effect status of all members of a Raid.

And lots more, check it out...

Update of Some Sorts

So I finally got my computer running LOTRO (at the lowest graphics setting but I'll fix it later) and I have been doing the free trial for a few days. If I had the graphics where they should be, then I can say that this really would be a beautiful game but this isn't what this is about.

After the advice given, I rolled on Landroval and find the place nice. My first two characters were an elf hunter and an elf guardian with the elf guardian being my main since there are too many elves shooting pointy arrows at stuff, and I could tell that just by the starting areas. I enjoy the guardian a lot but sometimes I do wish I would have rolled with a dwarf or maybe a man because of the elves relatively low health and regen rate but I'll get over it, I want an elf to my main. It didn't take long, though, to explore what the other classes had to offer. I've tried every class except the burglar. I find the captain to be decent, and the champion is nice but what I found that I enjoyed the most was the lore master. I have a soft spot for mage style classes and pet classes but also love archer classes, hence the hunter as well.

Run into a problem, though, well, I see it as a problem because I'm trying to keep down on my alts and trying to limit it to 2-3 active characters. And I would like to keep probly to my guardian, lore-master and hunter but the problem with me is that they have all turned out to be elves...I figured that I'm stuck with the guardian as an elf since he is the highest level, the others actually wouldn't take that long since I haven't gotten them past the starting areas yet. I was thinking about re-rolling the hunter since I would love to play would-be ranger or Men from Dale(Hooray for the Hobbit!) with a human hunter but also I thought about re-rolling the lore-master as a human but they look funny in the clothing and humans just seem...not old enough to be lore-masters. I think they should let dwarves be lore-masters as well since it fits kind of with the canon but I'm rambling. Question time:

Do any of you find that you favor one race over the other or do you keep your characters pretty well spread between the races?

And, any of you on Landroval that would so kindly befriend a newly annoited Guardian?

Anyone else plays the PVP in Ettenmoors (Monster Play)? I've been doing it lately and it's fun. I play as a Warg and it's name is Snowy.

Seems like the Creeps are slightly disadvantaged since the Freeps get to have their armor and stuff from the normal game but Creeps do get to start at level 50. However, it's tough acquiring all the skills and traits needed to be effective in raids and there's really not much reward for playing as a creep, since none of the stuff you earn goes to the normal game. I still enjoy it though.

I wanted to include this in the last post but forgot it which was a discussion on Race and Class in LOTRO. Now being a fan of the books, I definitly prefer elves over any other race, although the joy of being a hobbit or dwarf would satisfy as well. Are there any benefits to race besides different looks and class choices? And this might sound silly but is there any race that is kind of made fun of, because I know in WoW the Elves were looked down upon. Anyway, also about the classes, another problem I find in WoW is that there are overpowered classes, is there any of this in LOTRO? I saw they have a hunter class which is what I usually prefer in MMOs but they are an overpowered class in WoW and therefore I didn't play them? Or are the classes pretty balanced it's only how you want to play the game? And which classes tend to be popular? And what races tend to be popular?

Hello, I am new to LOTRO but not LOTR, if my macro wasn't an obvious indication of this. I actually right now a WoW player but since Tolkien is really who got me into Fantasy, and I've always wanted to try LOTRO but my school blocks every online game except for WoW. I am now moving off-campus now so more games will become available so I really want to try LOTRO and quite frankly, I am getting kind of fed up with the way Blizzard is taking WoW (I also love the Warcraft storyline) and I don't raid on WoW so I'm looking for other MMOs to kind of keep me tame.

I've done the research, looking up reviews and spensing a vast amount of time on the LOTRO website and I must say that I am impressed and delighted since I have geekasm when it comes to LOTR. I like the deep integration of the book into the game and all the lore Turbine included. The reviews for the game have been all good which makes me hopeful but people I know in WoW say that it kind of sucked and that no one plays so doing group things can be a hassel. One thing I like about LOTRO is that they keep the players humble and not have them take on villians that would change the storyline and have the players not directly influence the actual storyline of LOTR, like join the Fellowship and such. Something WoW has started doing, which gets me down. Another thing is that it doesn't seem like LOTRO is as gear dependant which also appeals to me because WoW end game seems like it's nothing but get the best gear and kill the biggest dudes. LOTRO seems more of game that let's you emerse yourself into a vast world and play how you want, everything is not combat driven.

So I come to you and ask you how is LOTRO and why do you enjoy playing it? Are any of my hopes misguided? And have any of you played WoW to compare it to them? Also, how many people play? My friend who plays has been trying to convince me that LOTRO is going downhill and soon will be offline because WoW is just this awesome MMO machine because it caters to people who "power game" and don't care about lore.

Hi there! On a whim I started a trial account, and played a couple hours yesterday. There are some questions that a FAQ can't answer, and this community needs some activity anyway, so...

Which servers are most active? I'm PST and I'd play in the evenings. I hardly saw anyone around, yesterday, and when I did see someone I suspect they didn't speak English.

What classes and/or races are underrepresented? I figured dwarf minstrels were fairly rare, though that might be why I can't find many folks in my starting area. That and the little lute riffs are getting pretty obnoxious.
