Challenge #29 - Fight
Title: Back and Forth

Pairing: Boone & Shannon
Spoilers: Not that I know of.
“Boone, please, I need this.”
Shannon doesn’t know why Boone fights her. She doesn’t know why he jerks her back and forth. Maybe he enjoys it, she doesn’t know. But she doesn’t enjoy it. She doesn’t enjoy asking him for money, or anyone for that matter. But she hasn’t been given a choice. She wasn’t always this way.
“You always need it Shannon. A plane ticket here, a day at the spa there. Do I have the letters A-T-M stamped on my forehead?”
“I wouldn’t ask you if it wasn’t important.”
“Yes you would.”
“Why don’t you believe me Boone?”
“History.”
She bites down on her lip, on her thoughts, on the words that are fighting their way out of her mouth. Everything is a fight with Boone. She almost can’t remember when it wasn’t. He pulls, she pulls, and they both fall down.
“Please Boone.”
She knows she’s being cruel. She knows she’s taking advantage of him, again, and she doesn’t want to. She’s learned to. She needs to.
And he breaks again. His face falls, his resolve crumbles and he nods. He digs his checkbook out of his back pocket and asks how much she needs. She squeals in joy and hugs him, like she always does. She feels him lean into her shoulder, into her hair. She can almost feel his eyes close. His breath rises and falls deeply. Like always.
She pulls away and smiles a thousand watt smile, then folds the check in half and puts it in her back pocket.
“Thank you so much Boone.”
“So,” he puts his check book away and leans against the table. “Where are you going this time?”
Shannon smiles. “France.” She says. “Speaking of which, I have to pack.”
And she leaves. Like she always does, like she probably always will. He watches her go, like he always does, like he probably always will. He wants to fight to keep her, and if he didn’t think she would fight back twice as hard, he would. Shannon wanted what she wanted and nothing was going to stop her from getting it.
He just wonders why she always wants to leave him.
