AboutThis is a moderated list for the posting of general and het-oriented fanfiction for Stargate: Atlantis. Some posts may contain adult material not suitable for minors.
Membership is currently closed. If you have fic you wish to post to the community, please e-mail the moderator (mierac at hotmail dot com) with your request to join the community.
So why all the draconian rules? Power tripping much? Well, yeah, but there's another reason. The clearer we are at the outset, the easier it is for everyone. This community will be a neutral environment for the sharing of fic and enthusiasm for the show, where people of all stripes are welcome. The best way to preserve freedom is establish the rule of law. If any of these rules make you uncomfortable, so be it. This is a unique community, and it may not be for everyone. No hard feelings.
The Thirteen Community Commandments (with addendums) - we reserve the right to change or add to this list at any time. These rules apply to posts to LCF and to comments left on posts within LCF.
1. No flaming, trashing or any other kind of personal attack on a character, a pairing, an actor, or most importantly a fellow fan is allowed here. Discussion and personal opinions are fine, but we have a "live and let live" policy. If you're looking for people to share your devotion to your One True Pairing, this is probably not the place for you. Anyone who engages in flaming either in posts or comments will be summarily banned from the community, no second chances.
1a. The writers and producers are fair game. ;)

However, while this list is geared towards gen & het, attacking slash pairings, or attacking slash for existing, will not be tolerated. If you don't see slash subtext between characters, that's fine. If you think it's icky and gross, keep it to yourself. If you have a moral objection to hot boy-on-boy or girl-on-girl action and think anyone who writes it is going to burn in hell, go away now.
2a. We define "slash" as a story with a main plot of explicit romantic content or intention between characters of the same sex. In other words, a story about Sheppard flirting with McKay would be slash. A story about Sheppard and McKay bickering in their normal manner while dealing with issues would qualify as gen (if the author so chooses – it's a gray area, I know. If you have doubts or questions about a particular piece, e-mail me and we'll talk).
2b. If your fic contains any romantic pairings, even in the background, it is not "gen" fic. If you wish to assure the readers that the pairing is not the primary purpose, please use the author notes and do not label the fic "gen."
3. This is a fanfic community, so we do not allow the sharing of fanart, including vids. No offense to any artists out there, we're just text-lovers. Check outatlantis_vids and atlantis_icons for alternatives.
3a. No Real Person/People Fic. We like the fictional in our fiction here.
4. Discussion and analysis of the show are encouraged. In fact, begged for. :) Additionally, talking about anything related to the shows and the actors is good, such as other work the actors have done, conventions, etc. Just don't try to sell anything to the members, or use the group to plan anti-government coups, ok?
5. Spoilers: As of June 2009 spoiler warnings are no longer required, since the show has been off the air for several months. However, the "spoiler" line will remain in the meta list. Authors may wish to specify at what point in the series their fic is set (i.e. "before 'Sunday'" or "post-S5 fix it fic," etc.
6. We do not have a web archive for this community. We recommend www.wraithbait.com. If you run a fiction archive and want to list your archive as an option for our writers, please let us know and we'll be happy to link to your site.
7. We use regular ratings per US industry standards. None of that "duckbilled platypus" or "progeny of a mongoose" crap. Fic of all ratings are accepted. NC-17 should be used for any explicit content.
8. Warnings MUST BE PLACED on any fic involving non-consensual sex or character deaths. As with spoilers you can't be too careful with warnings, so use them.
8a. Yes, mentioning a character death in the warnings can blow your plot surprise. Life is hard, suck it up.
9. All het pairings are welcome, as are AUs, crossovers, threesomes, etc. Please do mark any of these in the summary and the warnings, though, as there is still that pesky contingent of fans who do not like alternate universes where there are no shrimp and prefer to avoid them.
10. How To Post Fiction: You must be a member of this community to post. All fic must be spell-checked. Seriously. Unproofread fic may be removed if it is exceptionally messy, as we try to maintain a quality level in the fic posted here. LJ offers a spell check feature before posting, so even if you're dashing off something quick and dirty, you have no excuses. We strongly encourage the use of beta readers – which does not mean getting a friend to read over the fic and stroke your ego. If you don't have a beta reader, ask around. It's usually fairly easy to find a willing pair of eyes to help you out.
10a. Constructive criticism (concrit) should never be posted in comments on entries to LCF. (This does not include general notes such as "hey, you typed 'coach' and I think you meant 'couch'.) If you have a major quibble with a fic or wish to send detailed feedback including concrit, please contact the author privately. Comments to LCF containing concrit may be removed by the moderator without warning, and may result in banning for repeat offenders. This rule does not apply to personal journals which are only linked to LCF; concrit in those journals is at the discretion of the author.
10b. Fiction should be posted with "FIC: Title of Story by myname" in the subject line. The meta information should be at the top of the post, with the story itself behind a cut tag (to use this tag, type the following: <*lj-cut text="title of story"*> without the asterisks) or using a link back to your own lj or the webpage where the story is.
10c. Meta information: ALL OF THE FOLLOWING LINES SHOULD BE PLACED AT THE TOP OF EVERY FIC POST, above the cut tag.

13. Frequency of posting. Please limit yourself to no more than 3 posts in any 24 hour period. If you are posting a completed story which has multiple parts, please consider posting to your own lj account or an archive and putting all the links in a single LCF post. Abuse of this rule may result in posts being deleted or the poster having their access temporarily suspended or any other actions the moderator deems necessary for reasons of spamming.
