Season 4 Ep 1 (theory that might be a spoiler)
Okay here is my theory on Jacob (which could be a spoiler!) I checked the tags and memories, and previous entries and didn't see this posted yet.

I think Jacob might be Jack's dad, Christian Shephard. If he isn't Jacob, then I'm pretty sure this at least proves he was in his cabin on the season premiere:

FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE END

notice the white shoes!

FROM SEASON 1 (WHITE RABBIT)

white shoes!

A good profile shot of Christian

And don't forget the empty coffin!

ETA: A cleaned up shot of Christian in the cabin

from Lostpedia!

I just became a Lost fan this past December and I can't believe how obsessed I've become!!

I hadn't seen it when I wrote this..and I actually expected a lot more "Duh!" comments while this was in post-queue, since just a bit after I submitted I saw an Lost article on MSNBC.com mentioning the Jacob-Christian connection

Thanks! I actually capped these myself when I wrote it..that's why I was so bummed when I saw other people had already figured it out.. all that effort, gone!! lol

There definitely ARE similarities. And what with the 13 Lost clip thing with Christian and Vincent... lksfjalsjfalsjkfs. How would he make himself disappear/reappear though?

Yup, I wasn't buying in to it before I saw these, but it's definitiely, definitely him. Not only is he wearing the white shoes, not only does the face look like him, but you can absolutely see his tie in the second and third pictures.

Sppoooooooky.

I saw a cleaned up screencap and it's definetly Christian. Weird!

Cool! Okay so the electromagnetic energy of the Island brought Christian back to life? I might believe that. This doesn't mean Christian is the original Jacob. Jacob could be possessing his body or something. LOL Creepy!

yeah I definitely think that's what's going on.

Then why didn't the island bring back Boone? Shannon? Eko? Artnz? The list goes on.

I think the island/monster/jacob just took form of Christians body. It's happened before.

I agree!! Maybe the white ash keeps Christian in the cabin's boundaries or something, so Jacob won't lose him!

That's my theory. If the island can restore Locke's legs and kill Rose's cancer, then it can probably awaken someone who has only been deceased for two or three days. Christian came back to life and realized that he must have been on the island (I think he's somehow connected to it).

As for Jacob, I'm not entirely sure. While it's possible that Jacob is actually possessing Christian's body or Christian really is Jacob (do we know how long Ben has "spoken" with Jacob?), I think Christian is just Christian.

I saw a brightened cap of him sitting there, and it definitely was Christian. But Christian is dead, so it's probably Smokey. He has posed as Christian before.

Jacob's the guy who popped up and scared Hurley...

Though, anything that happens in any scene with Hurley alone in this episode is questionable. He's clearly insane OR has the power to wish things in and out of existence. Which would be way cooler than Walt's bird-summoning ability.

but why would Hurley hallucinate Christian? They haven't met before, have they?

That's a good point... He hasn't seen the cabin or Jacob either.

We know that Hurley is important. He was on Jacob's list, and apparently he needs to do something important to help people involved with the island in the future.

Feasibly, he has a very deep connection to the island.

Lost is so awesome... the more we find out about the universe of the show, the crazier it all seems.

Exactly what I said...remember when Locke first went to the cabin and saw Jacob in the chair? All the screencaps and speculation from that episode was that Jacob looked like Locke! I think someone even made a comparison shot with a profile of Locke and put it next to the screencap and it was uncanny. But this shot is clearly Christian. So is it a continuity error, or does Jacob appear differently to different people?? Maybe it's like Smokey (or Jacob IS Smokey) where everyone sees him differently based on their character/perspective.

I don't think Christian IS Jacob, I think Jacob is USING Christian right now. What I want to know is WHY? Why HIM?

There has to be some way for Jack and Claire to find out they're half-siblings... that's the only thing that I can think of, because otherwise finding that out would be really difficult, unless they're both confronted by "Christian" and are like "hey, that's Dad!".

I bet they will do something like this! It will be a total surprise to both of them. That would be an awesome way to reveal it, because there's no way that Jack and Claire are going to get to talking about family members and just stumble upon it by themselves :)

There were two guys in the cabin, actually. Christian was sitting in the chair but someone suddenly popped up and scared Hurley and that would be Jacob. Christian is definitely not Jacob but I do think that actually is Christian. But I'm willing to bet Christian is more like Charlie in the sense that he is dead but is still there.

I originally thought the person who popped up was Locke, since he already knew where the cabin was, then appeared right after Hurley ran away from the cabin. Maybe they're all sharing a bachelor pad!

When we watched it at our Lost party, we all thought it was Charlie who popped up. Since Hurley is haunted by Charlie later on, it makes sense??

"But I'm willing to bet Christian is more like Charlie in the sense that he is dead but is still there."

Exactly. I know I mentioned this on another thread around here somewhere (it gets hard to keep track of them all!) that I think this explains Jack's comment in "Looking Glass" a lot better than either: 1) Christian being alive, or 2) Jack's just too stoned/drunk to know differently. If Hurley is seeing dead people that he KNOWS are dead, why not Jack? And their differing reactions to it - Hurley popping back into the nuthatch, where he feels safe, and Jack just letting his father's demons take him over as well - make a lot of sense to me, as well. Hurley's at least got experience seeing people who aren't real. Rational Jack can't handle it, and so becomes more and more drunk in an effort to make that (and his guilt) go away.

Here's a post from 4815162342.com that I read last night about Christan and I thought it was interesting and funny, I don't necessarily believe that he's dead or alive, I do know the man in the cabin was Christian however..whether it be just his form or the man himself.

Since I can't link directly to the thread I'm referring to, scroll down 8 posts for the photo story/explanation.
