Disclaimer: I think they still belong to JJ Abrams. I know they belong to Lindelof and Cuse and ABC. I wish I were making the sort of profit they are off these characters, but sadly, I’m not.
Summary: When Kate can’t get through to a drunken, suicidal Jack she calls the only person she can think of.
Author's Notes: This takes place right after Kate left Jack standing by the road in the Season 3 finale. I started writing it then. This is how long it takes me to work on stories now. Sigh. I started taking some of the season 4 stuff into account, but it mostly ignores cannon past season 3 (Ben is the one in the coffin here).
Obviously the title is in reference to the 12 steps of addiction treatment. These steps will not actually be followed in this story. I just needed a title that described the story without making it seem like part of the “Detox” series.

Reason: Because it seemed necessary to finish the series, and my mind said: make this into ten parts. This, unbelievably, after two and a half years, is the last part.

I would also like to mention the use of the word 'movement' in the whole fic. As this word inspired me initially, I made some effort to ensure it featured several times. I haven't counted it in all parts of the fic, but it features eleven times in this part, and hopefully doesn't appear overused!
This part completed for adventures_in The Great Outdoors in September 2008.

Warnings/Keywords: Slash, Mulder/Vaughn/Jack, PWP, DP, pretty out of character (at least for Vaughn who I seem to have turned into a horny slut).
Timeline: I was working on a scene in Safe Haven - a conversation between Michael Vaughn and Jack Shephard - and I got the impression that they might actually lend themselves well to a new crossover slash pairing. Fearing this might launch more plot bunnies than was worth the trouble, I forbade my muse from even considering the idea. She told me where I could shove it and forced me to write this.
Spoilers: For Safe Haven maybe, but even that's unlikely. Certainly none for any of the three shows these characters belong to.

In just a few days the nomination period for the mome_awards will end. If you want to make sure the pairings you love have their own categories, please nominate as many exceptional fics as you can in each of the story lengths (drabble, ficlet, short and long fiction).
Any story that features an actor from LOTR (either RPS or FPS) is eligible to be nominated. The FPS track encompasses not just Tolkien characters but the actors from the films in other roles (for example, Will Turner, Frank Hopkins, Casey Connor, Richard Sharpe, etc.). Fandom and RPS/FPS crossovers are eligible.
Awards are presented to both new and classic stories based on story length and pairing. Specific details on eligibility and the nomination process can be found here.
