About:[info]lost_bookclub is exactly that - a book club for the TV show LOST! We die-hard fans need something to keep us occupied until LOST returns to TV in February 2008, and we thought reading books that have a connection to the show would do a pretty good job of that.

How it works
At the beginning of each reading period, a reminder of what we are beginning to read will be posted. If we will be spending a significant amount of time reading the book, periodic reminders will be given. Once we finish the reading period, we move onto the next book while discussing the book we just finished.

The Rules
Spoilers for currently-aired episodes are okay, no need to use the LJ cut. Spoilers for future episodes MUST be given a cut and the proper warnings. Discussions about books we *will* be reading are not allowed before the community actually reads them (i.e. don't do a post about Carrie in July if we're reading it in November). Posts about LOST-related books not on the list are okay - just let me know beforehand, and give an off-topic warning. Other than that just play nice. Respect each other's opinions and discuss things in a civil manner.

Why isn't my favorite book on the list?
Because I felt it was either a boring story, had very little significance to LOST, or would be difficult to complete in a short amount of time. You are, of course, free to read whatever you like, but my list is a guideline that the community will be following. Please no pissing and whining to me about the list and how "everything" wasn't included. If you've like to read the approximately 40-50 books that have either been mentioned in the show or by the producers, or contain a LOST-related theme, that's fine by me. For those of us that have lives, however, 20 is plenty. I pick and chose based on community feedback, its relevance to LOST, and my own personal tastes. However, I am not holding you back - read all of them if you like.

Are posts about books not on the list allowed?
Yep! As long as they have some relevance to LOST. Please just give me a poke beforehand and let me know that you plan on doing an off-topic post.

I don't want to join another community...
Not a problem. You can either just add it to your friends list, or follow along with the link posts at [info]lost_tv.

But I can't read all those books! I don't want to read Watership Down!
No biggie. Read what you want, discuss when you can. We all have lives outside of livejournal and LOST (well, maybe). Participate when you're able - no pressure. Even if you only read one book, just because it's your favorite and you've read it a million times. Everything's welcome!

This should take us into the second week of February, I'm assuming when the show will be starting back up again. I have also allowed for a break for Harry Potter since I'm assuming most of us will be reading it. "Dude, looks like somebody steamrolled Harry Potter" also gives it LOST literary significance :)
