| re: New art show structure |
[May. 30th, 2009|09:19 am] |
Attention LosCon Artshow!!!
Your new "Gallery style" structure for this year's artshow is completely unacceptable to me. I will not be presenting my artwork at LosCon if there is no auction.
http://loscon.org/36/events/artshow.html
I have the following problems with the "Gallery" style of art show you are planning:
- What if two people want the same original piece of art? How is the dispute settled? First come, first grab?!?
- How would I know what the best price for my art is? I enter into auctions to see what the market wishes to pay for my art.
- Gone is the thrill of a piece selling for more than I thought it would sell for.
No, I will not be presenting my art at LosCon 36, unless there is the opportunity for people to bid on the piece to determine what the market value actually is. |

| LosCon 35 Ribbon Archive project |
[Dec. 9th, 2008|11:48 am] |

| [ | mood |

| [ | music |
| | The Super Sonicas - "Cuckoo Clock" | ] | Since I had a hand in ordering the ribbons for this year's LosCon, I took charge of assembling a collection of ribbons for the LosCon 35 Archives.
( There were a number of ribbons that LosCon 35, LosCon 36, and LASFS issued during the convention. 29 titles... )
( In addition, I attempted to collect a representative sampling of the other, unofficial ribbons in circulation at LosCon. 83 titles... ) I'm positive I don't have a complete set (for example, I'm missing "TALKING ABOUT TAFF"). Italics indicate a ribbon that I know was in circulation but is not currently in the archive box. If you were issuing a ribbon and have one left over to donate to the archive, I'd appreciate hearing from you. For that matter, if you issued the last of a ribbon title and want it noted for the record that it was in circulation, let me know that as well. Or if you were given a ribbon not shown here. Or if you were responsible for any of these ribbons but didn't actually hand them out, or if you have any other corrections or amendments.
Unlisted samples to add to the archive can be mailed to me at Chaz Baden, PO Box 17522, Anaheim CA 92817. If you think I might have a sample in my personal archives, though, buzz me before you send a ribbon. |

| [ | mood |
| | excited | ] | Hey there! I am very excitedly waiting to see LosCon pictures! Anyone got any from the masquerade yet? I am in particular looking for a certain dragon-lady noblewoman. I have many people excited to see it that couldn't such make it to the con.
Much love! |

brassangeles at LosCon |
[Dec. 1st, 2008|08:46 pm] |
We were the two, the proud, the only members of the community that actually met in person. I did try to rope some other folks in, but they were either recovering from the previous night's debauchery or signed up with the evil enemy (whoever that might be, I don't know). Anyhooo, here we are in all our finery. May I present, chartreusekitty and mpsy!

So hey you other steamers out there! Let's get a whole bunch of us together next year and take over the lobby for tea! |

| parking |
[Nov. 28th, 2008|09:28 pm] |
I found cheaper parking! I noticed several parking structures on Century right before reaching the Marriot. I can't remember the names of the parking structures, but there's are two right before you reach the marriott. One was full, but the one next to Marriott was $10.50 for the day (vs $22 for the Marriott).

| Ribbons, ribbons, ribbons |
[Nov. 27th, 2008|11:14 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | chipper | ] | I'm in charge of collecting ribbons for the LosCon 35 archives. I've already got one each of all of the official ribbons ("GLADIATOR" for the volunteers, "Past LosCon Chair" for people like me and ala_mokita, and so forth), and I've got many of the unofficial ribbons that people are giving away (especially most of the ones that are being introduced to the world this weekend).
I'd like to make it a complete set, though. I'm bringing a few silly ribbons to give away -- I'll put one each in the archives. If you're bringing some of your own ribbons, even if you've brought them to other conventions or previous LosCons, may I have one please?
You can find me via the red animelosangeles table, between the escalators. Not far from Reg, actually. Or come to 1722 Saturday night and find me there.
(Oh, and -- paging Patty Wells or anyone from renoin2011 -- can you find me, please, or send me a text message on my cell at 714-20-MANGY?) |

| PB&J Party: Anime Los Angeles at LosCon 35! |
[Nov. 25th, 2008|10:00 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | chipper | ] |
animelosangeles will have a Peanut Butter & Jelly party, in or near room 1722, on Saturday night after the Masquerade.
Come have a sandwich! Or toast some bread with our "Hello Kitty" toaster (donated by selinawoman). We'll have various things to spread on toast or sandwiches, including
butter, crunchy peanut butter, creamy peanut butter, grape jelly, strawberry, honey, apple butter, Nutella
and various other things that we haven't put in our shopping basket yet. Got something you want to share with the world? Bring it!
Bread-wise, we're currently planning on wheat, white, and cinnamon swirl bread. Same goes for that: want to share something? We're happy to have you!
We'll have other things to eat and drink, of course. Mostly with an eye towards "comfort food," so if you want to curl up with some chocolate milk and a graham cracker, or a cup of hot spiced cider, come and join us. We'll be open until midnight or 1:00 am, or whenever we get bored/tired.
Animé Los Angeles 5 is a medium-sized anime convention, held 5 weeks after LosCon, in the same hotel. We're sponsored by a non-profit IRS 501(c)(3) organization (Institute for Specialized Literature, Inc.), and in some ways we're a lot like LosCon with the science fiction subtracted, and anime & manga added. |

| Ping to anyone with Conversational Spanish skill |
[Nov. 25th, 2008|12:51 pm] |
Hey, is there anyone out there with conversational skills in Spanish who would like to help me with my Spanish? Particularly, this weekend? We're going to be up in Los Angeles for Loscon and I would dearly love to practice because the final is three weeks away....and part of the final is a 5 minute entrevista with the professora. |

| Have to find room to share |
[Nov. 23rd, 2008|11:12 pm] |
I posted about this before but forgot to put a title.
I'm leaving in a couple of hours for California from Oklahoma. I have everything set up for Loscon except a room to share. I hesitate to just come, but part of the reason I am going to cali is for Loscon so.... probably will anyway.
But PLEASE, if you could help, or know someone... I can pay for half a room, or less.... have been going to loscon for 20 years and can be vouched for as a roomate. Won't be in the room much anyway...
If you can help or can offer a suggestion, please email me at nightbird4477@yahoo.com
This will show up on my phone. I'll email my phone number back.
Dead tired and looking forward to the rocking of the train, and hope I can get some help.

| Looking for one or two friends |
[Nov. 21st, 2008|08:37 pm] |
I'm looking for a couple of friends and acquaintances, who are not otherwise already involved in the ribbon madness at LosCon, who are familiar with the People's Liberation Front of Judea, or are regular readers of Whatever.
I've got some ideas, but I need a little help to turn the ideas into plans... |

| Rooms Remain Available for Loscon 35 @ LAX MARRIOTT |
[Nov. 19th, 2008|11:13 pm] |
There was a glitch, it has been fixed, rooms are available at the LAX MARRIOTT!
We have a great deal from the Marriott with rooms for $98 for single/double/triple/quad occupancy. There is not a suite rate available, as there are no suites available to general attendees. If you are planning on throwing a party at Loscon 35, we're sorry, there are no rooms left on the party floor.
To make your room reservations you can either call the Marriott at 1-800-228-9290 or go to their website at Los Angeles Airport Marriot LosCon 35 Hotel Reservation When making reservations, be sure to use this code: LOSLOSA, to be certain that you get the Loscon 35 room rate of $98.00.

[Nov. 15th, 2008|05:42 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | mellow | ] | (I posted this on the LASFS webpage Forum also)
Sent email to Marty & Alice Massoglia on October 30 with a wish list of books for them to find and me to buy at LosCon this year. Haven't heard anything from them, I usually get some kind of auto-reply. I suspect they're at another convention and their email is down? If any of you see them, can you ask them to check their email?
Thanks! Karen |

| Whitler Loscon |
[Nov. 14th, 2008|10:41 am] |
It seems very quiet here with LosCon coming up.
I suspect that other things are taking peoples time and possibly there presence.
With the Economy failing, will you be at LosCon?
We almost made it a day trip, but now are planning to stay the weekend. |

| (no subject) |
[Nov. 8th, 2008|01:30 pm] |
I'm coming out from Oaklahoma this holiday and everything is in order, going to Thanksgiving dinner and to the hotel on Friday. Will be leaving Sunday. Only thing I don't know about is a share of a room.
With a bit over two weeks and counting before I leave I'm getting worried. I can do a half split. Been going to Loscon for years but since moving have nobodys contact info as it dissapeared mysteriously along the way.
If anyone has space or knows of somewhere to post or someone who does please let me know. Thanx in advance. |

| looking for a ride Bay Area to Loscon |
[Nov. 6th, 2008|04:21 pm] |
Anyone driving from the Bay Area to Loscon? I'd be happy to share driving and/or gas expenses. I can drive stick or automatic, and I have insurance and a clean record. I would prefer not to take my car, but would be willing to take it if someone else needs a ride.
I could take BART or Caltrain to meet you, or drive my car to your place if there's parking.
I was planning to spend Thanksgiving up here, but we can leave before that if it's better for you. Thanks!
