  • Jul. 20th, 2009 at 3:04 PM
3 bedroom house in the valley has TWO rooms available. There is no credit check, but I do want to make sure you're employed and not crazy.

Best places to have sex?

  • Jul. 20th, 2009 at 1:26 AM
After losing my job my boyfriend and I had to move back in with my mom. This has killed our sex life and when I get really in the mood theres no where to do it :(
Any good spots in LA? I'm open to ideas.

World Football Challenge

  • Jul. 20th, 2009 at 1:30 AM
Anyone know if there are discount (student, etc...) tickets available for the World Football Challenge at the Rose Bowl Tuesday night? I'd love to see Chelsea FC play in person!

Thanks!

Just moved to LA!

  • Jul. 21st, 2009 at 4:04 AM
I've been talking about it for awhile and I've finally up and moved. I'm living in the Studio City/North Hollywood area and was hoping you guys could give me some good recommendations on chosing a cable company. I know Time Warner's available in my area but I've heard some not-so-nice things about them. And, yeah, Fios isn't available here at all.

Are there any other companies to try?

Mulholland Drive and rockbilly bars

  • Jul. 19th, 2009 at 9:15 PM
Hi all. I have two questions:

1. Can anyone recommend the best romantic spot along Mulholland Drive and how to get there from Hollywood (roughly Vine and Melrose)?

2. I hate having to ask in this way, but what are the best "rockabilly" and/or swing-type bars in LA? That's kind of my boyfriend's and my speed and we're looking for some good places when we visit next month. Bars that have specific themed nights might be okay, but I know there have to some bars that draw a good "rockabilly" crowd on a regular basis. Classic Hollywood-style places seem to be few and far between these days in the city, but I feel like I'm probably just not looking in the right areas.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Anyone going to Burning Man this year?

  • Jul. 17th, 2009 at 10:40 PM
I’m helping out with these 2 LA-based sites, so if you’re going to Burning Man this year (or know someone who is), here are some eco-friendly links to pass along. Also, if you’re just a person who likes camping or is on the go a lot, ModernLocal.com has solar powered laptop chargers and other cool eco-friendly gear.

Anybody need a green ride from the Reno airport for Burning Man? Check out the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE before all the seats are gone! http://www.burncleanproject.org

Also, check out the BM rideshare board. http://www.burningman.com/preparation/resources/rideshare.html

Got all your gear? El Wire Bike Kits, solar backpacks, water bottles... http://store.modernlocal.com/

Internet Cable Phone providers

  • Jul. 17th, 2009 at 12:52 PM
I'm moving to Santa Monica from Venice, where I have not had a very good experience with Time Warner (they call their package "All the Best", which has been a joke, and not a funny one!). Do any of you lovely people have a recommendation for internet and cable in Santa Monica? I know it's POSSIBLE that Time Warner's service is better in Santa Monica then it has been in Venice, but I'm not counting on it. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm thinking about switching cell phone carriers. Anyone here have any good/bad experiences with Sprint, particularly around Culver City, West Hollywood, and that general area?

sorry... anyone got an open room?

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 11:58 PM

I am only posting this here because I had a place redy to go and got flaked on, which leaves me in a shitty situation.  Sorry if this is not appropriate.

traveling stripper and dominatrix looking for a couch to crash on for a month or two, moving from Portland... can't stand it here. No drugs, please... 420 okay. Love cats and dogs and reptiles... would prefer a low drama place where my business is mine and yours is yours and I don't have to worry about someone stealing my meager belongings. Heh... have had some bad experiences in LA. Open to a room, open to paying up to $400/mo.

I'm kinda punk, kinda goth, low drama... I had a place, but got flaked on at the last minute, which is just irritating. Am arriving in the beginning of August.

Note: I am not a prostitute, so don't ask. Not looking for an 'arrangement' just a couch to crash on or a spare room or something. I'm actually a pretty cool person, just a little cautious, so don't take the bitchy thing too seriously. ^_^

  • cats are OK - purrr
  • dogs are OK - wooof

Wardrobe help

  • Jul. 15th, 2009 at 6:18 PM
Hey everyone,

So, I've reached that time in my life where I think it's finally appropriate to revamp my image. Today's earlier post about LA fashion has inspired me to seek help from you wonderful LJers, as my situation is pretty dire. I'm 27 and dying to get some new clothes, yet fashion and I have always been at odds. I still wear some t-shirts I had in high school. I've been wearing the same necklace and belt for 10 years! Yeah. I've never had female friends of the sort who could help out with this, either. My roomies now are all around 21 years old, so they tend not to understand why I'm just not picking up what they're putting down in the clothes world, if you know what I mean. Soooo...

(And just FYI, I feel incredibly dorky for posting this.) Would anyone want to be my shopping buddy/guide? I suck at buying women's clothes. I suck at coordinating. I suck at playing up my assets, if you know what I mean. I pretty much wear men's tank tops and board shorts in the summer, and I just started wearing women's jeans sometimes. Argh. I do well at dressing up super fancy, but casualwear and going out-wear just totally escapes me. If anyone is interested in helping me with my FashionCrisis(tm), please let me know! I'm just not good at looking like a late-20s girl, and I'd like to improve. I'm more than willing to purchase a few items of clothes for someone who lends me a hand (and a critical, but nice eye). I also do photography, proofreading/editing, and a host of other random things that you may want/need help with in return for giving me your fashion assistance! Thanks for reading, and I hope that those of you who are utterly uninterested at least got a good chuckle.

Fashion basics?

  • Jul. 15th, 2009 at 6:22 PM
You guys have been really generous with advice regarding the logisitics of our move to your region: cost, home hunting, jobs and more. Now I have a fun question for you:
What are the fashion staples of an L.A. girl's wardrobe?
Moving from NE Ohio, and Pittsburgh before that, I love my home, but don't want to look like a midwesterner! What are clothing, hair and make-up no-no's that scream "transplant?" What are cool, functional pieces, cosmetic trends (not of the surgical kind, lol), and hair styles that are a big deal in your area right now?

B-Boys at Venice Beach?

  • Jul. 15th, 2009 at 4:20 PM
This is a long shot, buuut...

I caught the last 10-15 minutes of a demonstration at Venice Beach yesterday, I think it may have been a b-boy group. The performance was obviously scripted and very funny. As the finale one of the guys did a running flip over a line of people. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and do they have a name and/or website?
