Yes, I'm still out here. The last few months have been a blur of the OTHER end of the economy...namely short-handedness at work requiring me to work overtime. Loooots of overtime. Then dealing with a great deal of more time-sucking dealing with a lot of legal problems with my mother's estate. But it looks like the end is near for that, so I managed to eek out some time to do a birthday present for Seth...which was...uh...April 11, so I suck. Happy really belated Birthday, Seth!

I don't think I've ever drawn a red panda furry before...I can't remember! But he was fun to do. :)
As for comics, I worked a bit more on Gemini Bright last night for the first time in...forever. So that's started coming along again (yeah, I know I've been saying that for over a couple years now). Apollo 9 is still giving me problems because I can't think of a story to draw. |

I realized I almost never post anything from my sketchbooks. I keep thinking that if it's just a sketch, no one will want to look at it. After being smacked upside the head from a friend, I scanned and posted this.
Sleeping on the Watch
I did this wondering what kind of furry Santa would be. "Polar Bear" was the response from everybody I asked. I tried to think of something else, but seriously, what else would he be?
In case you can't tell, he's supposed to be picking up a kitten who fell asleep at the top of the stairs waiting for him, but as usual, I suck at backgrounds. I still like Santa's face and the general feel of the pic though. Given the number of times I tried to catch Santa and woke up in my bed, my only conclusion is that Santa does a lot of tucking in as well as eating cookies and milk and delivering presents on his one work night of the year.

I'm being quite the prolific arty furball this week. This joke wouldn't have worked if I waited any longer. Everybody who knows me knows my insane obsession with holidays. I've already watched every Halloween cartoon special there is on YouTube at least twice already this month....I must be getting old.

Arrrrr, avast me hearties! Batten down yer circuits, the Dread Pirate Zooey has taken over!
It's amazing how the months fly, don't they? I look up at my calendar and it says June, I look up again and it's September.
I didn't want the year to go buy entirely without putting up something, and since today is Talk Like A Pirate Day I had Zooey pop up and celebrate. Next to Halloween and Christmas, I think this is his/her/hir favorite holiday.
No, nobody is sure where s/he got the sword.
I know many of you are anxious for news on when the comics are going to get started again. I wish I had a definitive answer for you. I had really hoped to get into the swing of things again this year, but it's just not working out that way. Soon after my last post, my mother was diagnosed as being in the end stages of lung cancer. So much of my time and thought process is being taken up with that and being there for my family right now. As you can imagine, I just don't feel like writing jokes right now.
Being as I'm a stubborn cuss, I'm going to sit here and say we're not sunk yet! The news might be the same about being stuck on the sandbar of life for a while, but if I can find a way off, I will. |

These are my boys, Algernon and Ignatius. Rats make lousy models till you stuff them so full of Rice Krispies they pass out in food torpor in front of your monitor. *LOL*
As for other comic news, I'm still working on them. I'm trying to get up six months worth of update material for each comic, and it's coming along really nicely. Not including Coons though, that's 26 comics EACH for GB and A9, and they are fleshing out slowly with what time I have to work on them.
So be patient, we're getting there! In the meanttime, from Algernon, Ignatius, and me, may your year be full of good fortune and happiness! |

Happy Holidays all! Here have a piccy. This year I decided to show a bit what the people in the GB-verse do for their winter celebrations. In Sorian, there are many races each with their own sets of traditions, but the most predominant celebration is called the Feast of Fortuna. The primary goddess worshipped in Sorian is Tyche, the Goddess of Fortune and her festival is a time to be grateful for the fortunes you have in wealth, food, family, and whatever else makes you feel fortunate and sharing that with others. Here's some fun facts about what you are seeing in the picture:
-- Darrin, Shira, and Newel are out collecting decorations. Decorating is usually the job of the children of the family and normally done around sundown.
-- Fortune Bugs are a little like our fireflies, except they can light up in multiple colors. Their mating season is in the dead of winter, when they become quite prolific flying around and sending multi-colored signals to find their mates. Children often have great fun catching them with small nets and putting them in decorative jars to place around the home to give color and light, and have many games surrounding catching them. When the feast time is over, the insects are released.
-- Phosphorus Trees are related to Evergreens. They glow with iridescent light in winter after spending the day soaking up the sun. Their bows are woven into wreaths, and add fragrance and light to the home. Traditional Evergreens and holly are also often picked and placed in decoration.
-- Frost Flowers (sometimes called Fortune Flowers) are favorites for making wreaths, garlands, and necklaces with. They are bright festive red flowers with yellow centers and streaks through the petals, and a mild, peppery scent. They're blooming season is also in the dead of winter after the first frost. Men and women will often wear them in their hair in festive decoration or around their necks in a lei.
-- Gifts and food are a big part of the holiday, but most gifts and dishes made are given away. You may never know what gift you get or what your feast table will hold. The idea is to share your fortune so others may also be blessed. Giving to the poor is also important. Depending on community and region, the passing of gifts and food to your neighbors may be accomplished in a variety of ways. The poor also are especially taken care of at this time.
-- The festival lasts three days, and is the second of a trio of winter festivals celebrated in Sorian, the first being the Festival of Fallen Leaves in the fall, and the Snowdrop Festival in what would be February for us.

Just to let you guys know I'm not dead yet!
I've got some good news, some "enh" news, and some bad news.
The good news is, I've started work on the comics again. The "enh" news is it's going to be a while before I start putting them up. My time and inspiration is very limited these days, so I want a stock of comics to start with. Normally I'm just too darned eager and I stick it all up before I've really thought things out and end up stabbing myself in the foot with my pencil, but this time I'm really committed to creating a decent stock. So when it comes, it will be in a large dose like Metamucil, so you'll have some regularity for a while.
SO! YES, comics will be coming back! When? Um, I'm not sure yet. Sometime next year, likely. That's the bad news. But when I know, I'll post it. |

I'm thinking more on my comics lately.
Problem is besides lack of inspiration (Though I do have some scripts written out) is unfortunately, I legitimately have time constraints between work and life. To do one comic page for GB or A9 takes 4-5 hours on average...up to 10 if I color. That doesn't include sitting there and trying to write script and do work on the website.
This would mean I have to give up all my breaks, lunch hour, and the three hours I have in the evenings between getting home and going to bed to do them, or a good portion of one day on weekends. This...just doesn't work. :/
I'm torn between:
A.) Shutting them down completely
B.) Shutting them down and starting a new comic in a new format that's easier to do.
C.) Lamely limping my way along with permenant sporadic updates
D.) Shut one or two down and focus only on one....though I'm a wimp when it comes to taking an axe to my babies.
And I have to admit, I really have chronic storyflow problems. It comes in spurts. I sit there dead in the water for weeks before I can think of anything brilliant.
I do promise though whatever happens, that you will all know what happens to all the characters. I hate it when comics have to end and we don't get an ending. So, while I'm still wibbling around out here, I promise I won't let them hang indefinately. |

Carpe Diem! Again!
I'm happy to announce that Carpe Diem is starting up again today, and I'm honored that my art is being used to start it off. This little 6 page comic I began over a year ago for the CD Annual which never made it to frutation. I had already started the work and it's been sitting on hold, and rather throw away hours of effort, Graveyard Greg decided to use it to start off the re-emergance of CD...and using the badger guy I created just as an extra character when I did Issue 6. Greg gave him a name and adopted him, and he'll be showing up from time to time from now on. Thanks, GG!
So, here's some art, even if it's not for my own comics...yet.

Ok, so I don't know if this is the right thing or wrong thing to do to improve LT's state of mind, but I think everyone will be happy to know that miricles still happen. Last month, I was looking on Petsearch and saw a beautiful Red Husky about a hundred miles away in WVa, listed as endangered because he was in a non-no-kill pound. I couldn't get away because of work issues, but I figured as wonderful a dog as he seemed to be, someone would adopt him.
Three days ago, a friend called and said he'd seen a beautiful Husky that was being offered for adoption at the local PetSmart. I went up to look and, after hearing a few details, realized that he was the same dog I had seen the previous month, rescued the day before he was scheduled to be euthanised! Needless to say, I adopted him and he's even more wonderful in person than I ever would have imagined, and likely more intelligent than most people any of us know!

Amaaaazing. I still have inspiration buried in me somewheres. And I swear to everything you hold holy, this is what my week has been like. Not just the website snafu several days ago, but I have had no less than 5 companies doing this to me. Seems like EVERYBODY is doing upgrades. I HATE THE FACT EVERYTHING IS AUTOMATED THESE DAYS. I've been trying to pay bills and it just ain't happening. Can't ANYBODY run a billing department these days?!
I want this evil power of automation. I want to learn how to torture people through faulty portals. This is the evil of the future, dammit, and I wanna peice of the action! TEACH ME OH GREAT MEGA CORPERATIONS OF THE WORLD YOUR L33T AUTOMATED PWARZ!

I have to confess, I had to take some liscense here...I didn't actually call anybody. All the phone lines are all automated too.

Roz's Dream
Seth has been fooling around with Flash lately and decided to do this adorable little movie with Roz and Monty. Animated tail floof!
As for me, no, I am not dead or craving brains more than usual. I am however craving time, energy, and inspiration. I'm still not declaring the comics dead because I'm still seeing smoke in the embers and I don't want them to die. Honestly, doing art is just is not enjoyable for me right now, so I'm just gonna stay on hiatus until I either come to terms with comic death (in which case I WILL post endings for them all) or I'll find some way to spur the bellows and the muses will activate again. |
