    Rag Curling Tutorial
      Hello everyone!

I've had shortish hair since about 2001, but last year I decided to start growing it out from a layered, self-cut bob. It's been slow going, but one of the best parts of having the longest hair since I was a sophomore in high school is getting to finally style it in beloved vintage-inspired ways. So, I've figured out a good strategy for a modified way of rag curling.

Recently, a friend wanted some options for how to curl her hair, so I knocked up a tutorial on it. I'd love to share it with anyone else interested in, yet confused by, the concept of rag curling. The flickr set with the video segments is here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmente/sets/72157605724957760/

Hope it's okay that this is my first post! :)

update on 5-yr-old boy with long hair
[info]fireincarnation posted the other day about a 5-year-old native american boy who is being asked to cut his hair or not attend kindergarten. I just thought people here might be interested that his mom has started an LJ so if you want to go over and give her support that might be a nice place to do it. Her LJ is [info]stitchwitch13. She also is working on a letter writing campaign to the school board. More info on that here. This story really upsets me and I've been trying to think of what else I can do to help. I guess just get the word out to as many people as I can, especially people in the Houston area.

    Introduction.
Hey everyone! I've been lurking for a little while and decided to join.

When I was 10 or so, I got my hair cut just under my chin. It was quite possibly the worst hair decision I've ever made. And now, about 6 years later, it's finally 4 inches past my shoulders. I think it's time for a trim though because my bangs are a little long (almost to the bottom of my chin) and the tips are annoying me, all frayed and flimsy-looking.

Last year I had some obsession with extremely short hair, like pixie short, and I wanted to get my hair cut that short but I didn't. I'm glad I didn't because I think I would've regretted it. Now I want to grow it out long, at least 4 more inches.

Anyway! That's basically my hair story. My hair was really long when I was a little girl, here's a picture (I hope it's not too big):

I'm in the dark purple shirt in the front. I don't even remember what it's like to have hair that long. And I'm definitely not that blonde anymore, my hair has gotten darker as I've gotten older and my natural color now is kind of an ashy brown (am I the only person who gets really annoyed when people call it dirty blonde? As if to imply that my hair is dirty (although I don't think it even counts as blonde anymore)), but I dye it a darker brown.

Blah! There's my introduction. Just wanted to say hi and I'm glad there are other people out there who I can go on my long-hair-growing journey with. Are there memories in this community? I'll look through old entries and read tips and stuff... if there are any basic tips you can give me right now I'd really appreciate it! Thanks. :)

I've recently come across a new brand that I haven't seen before.
Eden Organics. Anyone heard of them? I found them a few weeks ago at Coles and they've worked pretty well with my hair. They have a website at www.eden-organics.com

They are cone free and contain no sulphates. They smell pretty awesome, too.

Today, I saw that they had all been reduced down to 40 cents each at Coles! I bought every single bottle that was on the shelves.
